I waited patiently (months) to bid on this unique K&C LAH set of glossy's on the OTS...then the terrible happened, "I lost" I told myself $800 was my max...then I bid more and somebody else still outdid/bid me...me of all people! Well whoever won this set I congratulate them on winning!

So much for me being the big bidder!!!

So many great items in that auction. And a really great catalog!

That being said, using LiveAuctineers is pure torture. The Saturday opening act of the auction/marathon ran 7+ hours. And Sunday's was 5.5/6 hour affair. After Saturday, I had to choose between the auction and my regular Sunday morning golf (and most likely my last round of the year - it is starting to get cold here in the NE). I chose the golf! But did get back in time to pick-up a few lots in the last hour.

There are better venues for hosting & running auctions than Liveauctioneers.

Disn't see anything I want and prices are usually ridiculous anyway.

Total waste of time! Ridiculous prices with 23% premium on the top of them, then you will have to pay $9 delivery charge PER LOT and wait about 3 -5 weeks for your parcel to be delivered (if you are located in the US).
Even eBay looks pretty good in comparison with this auction ^&grin
The only bargains were on the Little Legion sets, probably because most American collectors never heard about it.{eek3}

I think most buyers will bid with an auction hammer fee built into their bid. If I am willing to pay $100 for a figure/set with the hammer fee, I would be willing to pay the same amount for that figure/set if there was no hammer fee, $100.00. And I think that the prices are the market at that given time, a snap shot of sorts. I won several auction lots (about 12) and was pleased with the prices I paid. Like everyone, I have a bid up-to amount that I feel comfortable with and try not to exceed that amount. And what seems like a high price to you or me, might look like a bargain or fair price to another. Like most collectibles, we are in a very thinly traded market. Its not like 100s of any given figure/set show up for auction on a given night. Many of the offerings in OTS's auction may not be offered/seen for auction or sale for months or years to come.

As far as the S&H charges, I would like to think that their cost is pretty close to the actual shipping & handling amount. I would hope that S&H is not a profit center for OTS, and believe that it is not.

Peter,
I am glad that you got what you needed, for the price you wanted to pay.
Your right: the tastes differ. I personally have not seen a single set to die for or a set I have not seen in years at that auction. Most of these sets you can buy cheaper at eBay if you have patience.
In regards to shipping cost you can count youself if it costed $108 to ship in the US. (for 12 sets).
From my personal experience, I had the better prices including shipping when I bought from the UK auctions like Sotheby's even their shipping cost is $200-300 and I have parcels delivered in 3 days, not in 4.5 weeks I had to wait my last delivery from OTS. ^&grin
Just my 2 cents.

You make a good point about the S&H, but you do know that going in; delivery time (I seem to think I got my items in 3 weeks - Spring auction) & cost.

I have once bought an Imperial set from them, good catch, it was retired, price was not too bad. This time there were a few Imperial sets that interested me, but I can still get them direct from Imperial, probably cheaper because of combined shipping. But one of them went for a relatively low price... From what I remember shipping to Europe would be about 14 to 18USD, not bad at all, it is normally much higher. They (Old TS Auctions) always have an interesting selection, I alway follow, but rarely bid...:D.

I wanted the Metal Shed Assassination Car, unfortunately got out bid at last minute. I wonder who, Ed? Ed? Ed? :p:p:p:p Seriously, it was a good price on that one and I hope Ed is the one who got it!

I did pick up a Dorset boxer set for $45 and a Under 2 Flags Plane for $100 which I think is Heco maybe.

So some deals to be had!

They have an interesting selection but their shipping or processing is for crap. Round this time last year, I won a K & C auction and paid right after Thanksgiving. They kept claiming it was going out any day. After about two months of waiting and being reassured that it was going out, I filed a claim with my credit card company. I won't say never again but they need to stop playing amateur hour.

I picked up these two items in the original boxes for about $150 each...I feel I did well!

Hmm, a point to consider I guess, thanks for sharing, I didn't know they had this kind of problems. I only bought from them once, years ago, but all went right. Is there a service difference if you bid directly with Old Toy Soldier Auctions (by e-mail for instance)?

Paulo

Paulo,

I bid through Live Auctioneers so I don't know if there's any difference. I think my situation must have been an isolated situation as everyone else received their items. Still....

I picked up The Frontline Marines and Generals sets and some WW1 sets from March past. I didn't bid on staff car as I am more interested in the fighting machines.

Those are nice pickups. I don't collect LAH so, you don't have to worry about me. I even let the K&C marines go, becuase I have one of each.

Ed,
I was going to bid on the FL Marines as well but couldn't stand to sit and watch all the drama any longer:eek: Nice pickup!

I know, but I will say if its an item you have been looking for a while, it may be longer before you can find it again.

Even if that's true, it's not worth it. Experience show that sooner or later everything shows up again.

It's worth it to me. I have a difficult time with the later concept. I know myself, I can't let a few hundred bucks keep me from getting a set I want.
