As I didn't want to hijack Terp152's thread , I and others were admiring the USS Louisville and it reminded me of a 1/76 model of the USS Enterprise I once saw, Tom this won't fit in your living room that's for sure. {sm4}

HI Wayne, yes I do recall that edition of the magazine, that model rocks.

Anyhow, here is a link to the Gold Coast Military Museum at Mudgeeraba: http://www.goldcoastwarmuseum.com.au/index.htm

I haven't been to that museum since the early 1990's when I lived on the Gold Coast and it may not have the large model aircaft carrier it had back then, but it's still worth a visit if you are down that way. The museum has cool tanks etc, and one of the best skirmish fields I have ever played on with a lot of natural vegetation such as bamboo etc giving it a kinda Nam feel. Heaps of fun but rather painfull as Aussie players tend to get up close and personal with paintball guns {eek3} At least they did with me, may have been something I said :wink2:

Thanks for sharing that, Wayne!

I'm always impressed by the scratchbuilding and detailing skills of the guys who build these large ship models. There are a couple of 1/72 models of WWII escort carriers out there; I got to see one in person at the WWII Weekend at Reading a couple of years ago.

Here is a link for another very impressive build, of the USS Wolverine, a converted paddle-wheel steamer that our Navy used as a carrier trainer on Lake Michigan during WWII:

http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=13617

This was also featured in FineScale Modeler back in the mid-Aughts. It's scale has been given variously as 1/96 or 1/72. The aircraft and figures are definitely 1/72.

If I had the room, I'd like to tackle one, but I have enough on my modeling plate to last a lifetime ;D

Prost!

Tom,
No worries mate, and bring some of those Darwin stubbies with you. :wink2:;)
Wayne.

Umm, brrrp you mean the "empty" Darwin stubbie as i'll prob drink it on the plane! ^&grin

Tom

Its a ten hour journey so if you drink it, keep hold of the empty bottle. You'll need it!{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

Ten hours??? we do have passenger jet services to Darwin, not Douglas DC3's and the jets have toilets (sometimes clogged up with nappys) and they only take 3 and a half hours to get to Brissy! (sometimes faster if the pilot wants to get home quicker...) ^&grin

My mistake - I added the time that it takes to clear the grazing cattle off the runway.
