I've read many threads over the years concerning scale. Normally the talk is about the AFV's and sometimes about figures. Since the scale of figures is somewhat subjective being that people come in different sizes, I decided to do an experiment assuming that maybe the average size man would be about 5' 10" or 70 total inches high. With this common denominator I measured four of my figures to see what scale they actually represented. When measuring, I measured from the bottom of their feet to the top of their heads (guessing where the top would be underneath their hat/helmet). In other words, if the figure has a base, I did not include the base, and with their hat or helmet, I stopped short of the actual top estimating where the top of his head would be underneath the hat/helmet. Also I chose figures that were standing up straight (the FL figure is not perfectly straight, but almost and I accounted a tiny bit for this). So here are my unscientific results after measuring with a tape very carefully. The figures measure basically:

1. Tamiya 2.0" . So 70" (5',10") divided by 2.0 = 35 or 1/35 scale

2. 21st C 2.2" , So 70" divided by 2.2 = 1/32 scale (rounded)

3. First Legion 2.3" , So 70" divided by 2.3 = 1/30 scale (rounded)

4. King and Country 2.5" , So 70" divided by 2.5 = 1/28 scale

Anyway, this really doesn't show anything different than what a lot of collectors have already stated many times concerning different figures, but I wanted to see for myself where they might measure out and this is really about what I expected in the first place. Just thought it might be of interest to some other collectors. As stated, nothing scientific.{sm4}

interesting post. The question is whether it would be popular to reduce the figures from the likes of K&C and TG and CS to 1/30th scale or, keep them larger at 1/28th??

I don't mind the way the figures are at the moment as my own figure collection is so eclectic

I got some FL Germans to add to my Figarti range but found that they look to slim next to the Figarti ones

Yeah mate i agree they look way to skinny for my liking,and if there slim next to figarti they must be tiny.

Excellent post.....First Legion is 1:30th......K/C, TG, and CS are 1:28th....now all these companies need to due is to "accurately" label their products as 1:28th.... and as CS is doing increase the size of their AFV's to match their figures.......At least that way they would at least be conistent within their own product lines and we as collectors would not have the problems associated with scale.

Frank...

It won't happen though. That would mean that collectors would have 1/32nd 1/30th and 1/28th scale AFV's in their collections. The AFV's on the whole are done to 1/30th now by most manufacturers give or take. If compatability is to be achieved shrink the figures. Then the whole hobby is size wise at least compatable. What your asking and a few others who follow the CS logic is change the whole hobby to a scale that its not advertised or based upon just because the figures are and always have been made large.

Its just not going to happen to much work and cost to manufacturers and, I would guess that the majority of collectors don't want it. We all know the sizes of each manufacturers sets and, in that respect the collector does know best therefore they have the options to either mix and match which, over recent days and weeks we have seen every conceivable mix from K&C armour with FL to FL with CS and a fair few mixes.

I don't think there is much confusion at all with collectors and in a hobby that states its 1/30th well, it should be but, its not and, its down to sales that its not. If there was the sheer call for change and, this has dragged on for years this debate it would have been sorted way back. That sort of indicates to me that its not a problem for the majority who delve into their pockets and buy them
