John really seems to have a knack for 18th and 19th Century conflicts. Anyone think he'd do a bang up job covering the ACW? Anyone feel like the market is too saturated on ACW at the moment??

John has a lot on his plate but you never know.
Mark

Personally I think that as most of the popular manufacturers have an ACW range in their current catalogues do we need another one - albeit John's unique style and skill is an exciting prospect, like his entry in to the Peninsula War.

ACW like Zulus, Napoleonics and WW2 wil always sell well and ride high in the popularity stakes but I'd rather see a range of late 19th century European conflicts such as the Crimea, Franco-Prussian, Italian Wars of Independence, Austro Prussian wars that have been neglected by the likes of K&C, Britains etc

One particular conflict that I have always felt suited the JJD style would be the Boxer Rebellion.

As a dealer I agree with Evzone and would have to say I would prefer JJD not do ACW as it is well covered by most other brands. What has made John do so well is his choice of some of the less covered aspects such as various French Indian War series, Culloden, Peninsular War and WWI aircraft.

With apologies to JJ ACW fans{sm4}.

Regards
Brett

Agree with Evzone and Brett. JJD is the manufacturer of the lesser covered. I don't see John jumping in to a period that has been and continues to be so well covered by others. No one else does 1812, or SCW and the like. JJD has a superior WW1 aircraft line and his FIW and Jacobites are all the best on the market and, again, lesser covered subjects. JJD could do ACW in his usual outstanding style, just like anything he will do is going to be extremely well done, but I don't see him further expanding his lines with such a well-covered subject. Now, having opined all that stuff, just when is his version of Bobby Lee and JEB due?^&grin -- Al

Agree that it's not necessary, plus John does ranges that others haven't done and ACW has been well covered by many.

Hi

Is this true or just a rumour ????? If true, the wife has got to go.

Hello Frank

Terribly sorry if I led you astray here. I do not have any inside information or anything of the sort there with any future JJD releases so please, delay the separation for as long as possible. {sm4} I was just theorizing/ curious what ACW collectors were thinking and if they saw any correlation with John's period of expertise and whether or not it would translate well with the ACW. Nothing more.

Best regards
C

I agree with many of the replies and think that JJD should not get into the ACW.
It is the "off the beaten pass" subjects that he does so well.
Now, what I really do like is Evzone's idea with the Boxer Rebellion {bravo}}
"East Of India" had a line going on that subject but unfortunately they are not in business no more.
My believe is that a Boxer Rebellion line would be very much appreciated.

I have to cast my vote "against" Civil War.
Heck, I need many more additions to the 1812 series, Raid on St. Francis, and such.
Am I being selfish? Yep!, but still there are many other areas that are interesting and unique.

John ( I believe) likes the Big Fish <=> Little Pond concept and it has very worked well so far.
Larry

Gotta admit, I am very surprised with the input being so strongly against.

Best regards
C

Yep, don't see JJD starting up an ACW range. Britains, CS and FL are doing a great job covering this subject and JJD does a great job covering so many other ranges already with a lot more releases needed in those ranges.

The Boxer Rebellion would be a very interesting TS range . . . . . Always liked the looks of the USMC combat unifom of that time . . .

Where we currently seem to have a hole in ACW coverage is basic "classic" union infantry. In recent years we have had Cavalry, Chasseurs, Iron Brigade, and Zouaves, but comparitively few basic Billy Yanks in forage caps and sack coats.

I'm still lobbying for the Battles of New Orleans and Bladensburg, the Boxer Rebellion (particularly the defense of the Embassy Quarter in Peking), and Verdun

if I pulled John's strings...or even had a miniscule of influence over him...we would being seeing the Trojan Wars...I could really get behind that...big time!!!

years ago...he said he had an interest in it...I don't know what happened...but that's my fantasy series from JJD...

YES! The Battle of New Orleans for me!!!!!!! So many choices there, John could go on for years --- GOOD Choice!!!! -- Larry

I think I have a solution for those who want John to do the Civil War, and those who thinks he's better suited at lesser known periods (or less covered by other manufacturers):

He could do John Brown's Raid at Harper's Ferry ^&confuse
It's not been covered in painted metal format, AND is it still sorta ACW.
Plus with his really nice plane hanger building fronts, he could do a real nice Harper's Ferry Firehouse (or do half buildings like Britains Rorke's Drift buildings). Plus it could be done in a smaller format like snowshoes, easy to finish and easy on the wallet ^&grin

Another idea, what about one-off pieces, just dabbling in a range without actually starting one. A collector's club figure of John Burns at Gettysburg (sorta like his 2 Zulu war figs were).

No matter what, I will always petition for a Fort Necessity Range, a precursor to Monongahela :smile2:

It would be interesting to see John's artistry with Ancients. - Trojan War would be a great choice.

Punic Wars would also be an interesting subject with early Romans vs. Hannibal's Carthage and its colorful army of Africans, Celts, Gauls - and maybe best of all - Elephants.
