This is the last large figure that features in Weta's exhibition. You'll note he appears to be standing in a field of poppies. The is a special area just before you reach this display where you can write a message on a poppy, fold it to form an actual flower and place it in the huge basket surrounding the soldiers feet. As you can see it's quite full.

I found the public to be particularly quiet and very respectful in this part of the display.

Either display was it cost me $400 plus to buy a jenkins ww1 bus
After seeing that one. The war memorial display is going to get larger I believe.

Thanks mate, yeah all the photo's were taken by my brother, whose visiting from the US. He took ton's of pic's, but many didn't come out that well and he of course insisted in trying to get me in nearly every snap.

I've certainly developed a greater interest in the period and keen to grab a few more ANZAC figures now. Nice pick up with the bus too, she's a beaut{sm4}

Great photos of a great museum and like all museums, very educational. I noticed that the NZ troops were armed with something other than the standard Enfield Mk. III's, which I had always assumed was universal to all Dominion troops. Upon seeing the rifles in the exhibits, I did some investigating and found that the NZ troops were mainly armed with the .303 inch 'Long' Magazine Lee Enfield Mk. I rifles. The standard NZ MG was the .303 Mk. III Maxim Gun, something else I didn't know until seeing the museum pics. Small points of historical accuracy, perhaps, but very interesting. Canadian troops were issues with the less than ideal Ross rifle and Colt machine gun until 1916 as well but that's another story. :rolleyes2:

Thanks for that, Brendan. I had a bit of basic knowledge about the Canadians and the Ross rifle, thanks to McBride's 'A Rifleman Went to War', which is a terrific book. Didn't know that the old 'Potato Digger' was standard issue although I have seen illustrations of it in use on the Western front. -- Al

I recently did a trip to the land of the white cloud (New Zealand for people that have never heard this term before) and my trip included catching up with my good mate Toddy in Auckland (he is the instigator of this thread) and visiting Wellington to have a look at these exhibitions. The exhibits are brilliant to say the least and I took a heap of pic's which I thought I would share with everyone on the forum. I have a lot to upload and I may double up on some of Toddy's pic's but many of my pic's will be additional to the one's that Toddy has already provided.

The next set of pic's are quite remarkable. The pic's show a diorama of a bunker somewhere in what looks like Western Europe (There was no info provided below the display) but when you look at the dio, it changes before your eyes to become a destroyed bunker with all the landscape blasted away. It's very well done.
