Just got my first Marines this morning and did a quick set up. I can see I'm gong to need a gre4nade thrower and Flamethrower to shift the bunker !

Excellent scene Steve, one can only imagine what you'll do once you get more figures and vehicles.

Hi Steve. Great scene and very realistic. Nice job on the foliage. I've been looking at some foliage options since I got into the Pacific theater. Looks like you are enjoying the new Marines as much as I. I'm really looking forward to future Pacific pieces and wondering what else we may see from K&C...

I would love to see a Japanese hut or two (really regret not buying the ones that Thomas Gunn offered). One of those dug-out bunkers would be a great addition as well. Looking forward to new pieces down the road. Gordon's scenes have really brought this campaign to life.

I'll probably be taking some new pictures today.

Regards,

Very nice diorama Steve. And yes your Marines will need some heavier stuff to eliminate the bunker . These new figures are so life like in poses and expressions , great series.

Steve,

Outstanding Tarawa Diorama. Scenes like this are inspiring me more and more to buy these figures {bravo}}

Thanks Tom, Yes, looking forward to seeing K&C future issues of Marines. Looking at the diorama they did themselves showing off some of what will be later releases I can see I'll be getting a fair few more !
My Allied vehicles at the moment consist only of a TG jeep and this BMC Amtrac which as I couldn't see any others for sale at the time, I got and painted up, not too badly, though I do need to improve on that side of things.

Thanks Rob, I made the bunker myself using some twigs, a piece of insulating foam, sand, PVA glue and some paint. I'm pleased with it for a first attempt and will do a couple of others. On another thread there is pretty a step by step guide how to build one with dowelling and what looks like insulation foam covered in polyfilla and painted. Which looks like the way to go and something I'll be trying next time. The Bamboo and other tropical plants are from ebay. Will probably look better when/if I get around to painting though I wondering if there is anything that I can do to make them stiffer, so that the paint isn't so likely to flake !

Thanks also to Wayne and Guy for comments and others for their likes, which is always nice and encouraging !{sm4}

Fantastic diorama have you make. Yes, Mate, you need more Marines!

Thanks Harrie, I'm being inspired by your way of constructing a bunker to try making one of them myself. Yours is great !

Steve, what a great job you are doing on the Tarawa landing with the NEW K&C USMC Marines. (As i said in another thread) I just go back from a 11 day trip to the Chicago OSTN show where I was a helper with George from Minutemen.

I got to camp out in the K&C room and got to marvel at the Tarawa diorama that Andy / Gordon / K&C built. No pictures can do it justice so just take my word that it is (one of) the most amazing setups and displays that I have ever seen.

You are going to want a bunch more of these guys and the new set(s) that ,I think, will hit the beach next month.
I did see some of the BMC plastic sets at Chicago but messed up and didn't snap them up. Yours look real nice.

I will hopefully start my Tarawa (or WWII Pacific) diorama in a while.

Looking forward to see yours develop.

Hi Steve,

what amazing pictures! That scene is very realistic. I can't wait to see how it ends.... {sm4} I completely agree with Wayne... your terrific diorama makes you want to buy those figures. {sm4}

Cheers

Enrico

Thanks Larry, Poppo and Enrico. Yes they're great looking figures and it was too hard for me to resist, so I didn't !{sm4}

I've ordered the Flamethrower, Grenade thrower and another Rifleman, so that bunker should be taken care of before K&C's next release !
Hopefully K&C will have a Marine with a satchel charge to help with other bunkers in their future releases !

Steve

Really like this dio and the scenery and backdrop is excellent! I particularly enjoyed seeing how you made it too.

Thanks for sharing.:salute::

Cheers, But it's on Harrie's thread that he's done the photo step by step. Hopefully mine will be very similar in quality when I attempt it.

Steve

Great scene for a "quick setup." very good looking dio. Chris

Honest it took just a few minutes of changing things around a little as I had already done most of it for my newest scene in my "On the road to Mandalay" thread in the Diorama section !

Also since I can't do permanent dioramas due to space constraints I have made up various module bases that I use in conjunction with terrain mats etc,such as these Jungle type ones which simply are a block of florist Oasis cut diagonally length ways in two painted with a mixture of used tea leaves paint and PVA glue and then the various plants just stuck into it. I used Oasis simply because I hadn't thought of insulation foam at the time, which is cheaper still and you can get 4'x2'approx sheets of it comes in various depths too.

When you've done this it really is quick to put a scene together once you have thought what you want to show !
