Just a heads up, I ordered and paid $122US for 3 shrubs in June direct to Hudson & Studios. Despite 4 emails and one to Erika Olsen also, asking for an update of the order, deathly silence. I have now written the order off. As a final desperation I sent a final email saying I would post negative comments on a forum, no response. From now on any purchases for Britain's or Hudson & Allen Studios will be done thru our own TreeFrog store, where I have some recourse. I have made a number of direct orders before with no problems, but for me they have lost the plot and once bitten etc. Such a shame as they make excellent products. Good luck for those that continue to deal direct, maybe I have just been unlucky. Robin.

Thanks for the heads up Robin.
Unfortunately there does seem to be a continuing issue there and I can imagine how frustrating it is for you.
People can be understanding if a reason is given if they are having problems, eg health issues. But silence :(

I just want you to know as soon as I saw your post I both called and e-mailed Ken and Erika Osen. As soon as I hear back I will let you know. In the interim, however, I know what the problem is. You live in Australia and the last time I heard of them shipping something with trees and shrubs to Australia, a wonderful diorama for our good friend Howard Woods, it got seized by Australian customs because the foliage is made with real plant matter, and Australia has really strict laws on foreign plant matter. This might explain their inability to get it to you. But I am sure I will hear back from them and either they or I will get you an explanation.

Re: Beware Hudson Studios

this is true...
not gonna mention any names...
but he might chime in and verify this story...

one of my favorite guys from Australia...
asked me to pick him up some foliage as he was coming to the US...
when he got back home...
customs seized the dried preserved foliage...

so yea...
Louis is right...
Australia is pretty tough on allowing and scale model foliage into the country...

but that doesn't satisfactorily explain the lack of communication from H&A...

Re: Beware Hudson Studios

Hello All,

We private messaged villagehorse to tell him that we had indeed received his order and had responded by email to that order and several subsequent emails. We've included those copies in our message to him. I don't know if it's a problem with a spam filter or what, but we've replied whenever contacted by him.

In fact the email to him in direct response to his order was that we wouldn't be sending the bushes because they are made using organic materials and would, as Mike and Louis correctly observed, be confiscated by Australian customs. But we also told him that Ken was working on version that would only have inorganic materials and would therefore be OK for shipping to Australia.

We also did not take payment for the order. When someone orders, we have the ability to capture the funds for the order, but we only do that when things are ready to ship. We've double-checked, and the authorization for the order was cancelled with no funds being captured.

I hope this clarifies things. And once villagehorse gets the private message, I hope we'll hear from him.

Well there seems to be a major miscommunication which thankfully is now resolved. No idea why Britian's emails did not get to me, but they have now all been sent to me on a private message on this forum, so they do exist. I always automatically think once I have made a PayPal payment than the money is gone, I never follow up whether a dealer has actually taken the money, so that's one area I fell down. I have received other foliage items from Hudson and also JG miniatures, but was aware of Howard's loss of dio trees, in fact I now own that dio and added the trees/foliage back. Never heard from customs like Howard did, giving an opportunity to fumigate items and course pay extra, guess they simply thru them away. Really pleased about all the support from the forum including Julie, who as you can see appropriately altered the title of the thread. So thank you to Britian's, Hudson and Allen, Julie and the forum members. Robin.

The person Mike mentioned was me and Oz customs did indeed confiscate my scenery items back in 2017. I did declare the items to the customs bloke and he was really good about it and tried to see via the internet if they could be allowed in but unfortunately the search wasn't a success and he had to take the dried preserved foliage off me. The products in question was not made by H&A but a similar organic based product as Mike mentioned.

I also visited the Britains room at the CTSS last month and spoke to Ken about the bushes and he said he couldn't ship to Oz for the same reasons above and the explanation from the post below from Britains. He showed me an example of the non organic bushes he made that would be allowed into Oz and it looked good although I thought it wasn't as good as the organic version.

It's a shame I didn't chat to you Robin before you made the purchase as I could have warned you this would be an issue.

Make your own mate its great fun

Mate, that was my intention with the stuff I tried to bring into Oz, it's extremely realistic and to date I haven't found anyone in Oz that sells dried preserved foliage that is the same or similar to the organic stuff Mike got for me or what H&A sells.

Tom

I can't believe they won't let foliage in.I don't know about here in the US.I can see it if it was an invasive animal species or something like that but dried foliage?

Totally agree with our quarantine policy.

Many countries have restrictions on agricultural products. Their position is not unusual.

Tom...that works both ways...Europe has some products that I can't find in the US...or even in Europe for that matter...I like the foliage JG Miniatures uses on their trees and shrubs...I wanted to buy a batch of that to play with...but don't know who or where sells it...

I almost had peanut M&M's taken from me in Customs once....you cannot transport seeds or nuts in many cases! So I ate them. Problem solved!
Still not sure how a candy-coated nut/seed could have posed a threat....oh well!

(Real situation - but a fun aside!)

Julie

This is absurd....I would do the same, would have sat back eaten the M&Ms and then gone over.
But I have seen people try to sneak fruits, seeds and plants and processed food from a non industrial source and get a heck of a problem on their hands.....

Ops for that matter, I guess we are ok for the trees and shrubs that JG Miniatures produce, at least I have not had any items withheld by customs either in the US or Brazil....guess I have been lucky!
Cheers

When the USA banned liquids, I had liquid filled chocolates taken from me! Customs can be a hoot sometimes
