Couple random thoughts about KC.

1.) BBA016- White Scout car- my sister in law got me this set back when it came out (last year??). I enjoy it, really nice set. Didn't know much about it other than that it existed. I have done some reading on it and it sounds like it was used mostly in the beginning of the war and then in the Pacific. Anyone come to the same conclusions?? If so, has anyone tried setting it up in a dio with the Iwo Marines???

2.) The Eighth Army Aussie set, which I believe is retired- has anyone used that in a dio with the Marines- to sort of represent the contribution of the Aussies in the War in the Pacific? I was thinking about it but just don't think it would work.

3.) Fallschirmjagers versus British Airborne (MG)- these two re-releases for the year were, in my opinion, on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Fallschirmjagers were a big disappointment- something with their heads or faces or just bodies in general just took the air right out of the balloon for me. I can't quite put my finger on it but they just don't look right. Really really unfortunate as the initial FJs were such a landmark series in the total KC catalog. This set was just a big disappointment.

Now, the British airborne- WOW!! I really dig those figures!! At $29 a pop, they are getting expensive but I think they are really worth it. The poses are great and the texture just really brings out the "coolness" factor of the Para's combat uniforms- A++ on this set.

Really, REALLY hope he gives us a Tetrarch in this lineup.

BTW- What gives with the Umbrella guy?? What was his purpose??

4.) Panzer IV- I think it's time for a Panzer IV- Normandy version with the track guards.

5.) BBG008- I really thought this was going to be a SL King Tiger. Somewhere along the line, he's GOTTA do another KT.

The guy with the umbrella was a Major and carried the umbrella because he never could remember the pass words that were used at night. He hoped that any sentry that saw him and challenged him wouldn`t shoot him because no German in his right mind would be walking around at night with a Bloody umbrella.

Maj Carlyle in the movie was based on this actual Major: http://www.pegasusarchive.org/arnhem/tatham_warter.htm

The White Scout Car was used throughout the War, but was replaced by the Jeep. The scout car was heavy and got stuck a lot, and was only two wheel drive. The big roller in the front kept it from nose diving in holes. We gave the Russians a lot of scout cars to use throughout the war.

I loved the new FJ series, enough so, that I bought every figure.

The new Red Devils are fantastic as well.

The M3A1 scout car was used by the US Army in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, until it was replaced by the M8 and M20. The M3A1 saw LITTLE, IF ANY, use by the US in the ETO-there were plenty of M8s. There was a batch of M3A1s delivered to the USMC for recon use. They were used in stateside training, few if any went overseas with the USMC. They were used by the British, the Free French and especially by the Russians, who loved 'em. I can't quote the BTR- number, but the USSR made an updated version of it that lasted quite a while.

By the way, the M3A1 was FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, not a 4X2. They are still very popular among military vehicle collectors.

I Believe these were supplied to the free French forces in N. Africa, anybody have a reference for markings and camo?

:) The tradition of British Officers and their "Brollies" go back to Wellington. The Duke or was still Lord Wellington then, was said to have repremanded his junior officers for showing up with their umbrellas instead of their swords at revues parades etc..

I stand corrected. I just checked one of my reference books to confirm. I believe I got that idea from a show on the history channel

Does anybody have more information on the White Scout Car in North Africa ?

Maybe a Desert Version could be produced - how about it Alex ?? :D

The Tetrarch tank was only used on D-Day :(
So can't see it coming out with the Market Garden range

I picked up the Scout car at the London show in December and am really glad i did.Its excellant and just goes so well with other Bulge stuff. It may have been a less numerous vehicle but i think it has real style and is one of my fave K&C Vehicles.

I found the pictures of the snow patrol and saw my friends figures and I was disappointed on the way the ink pockets are drawn in black ink on the white coats. My other Bulge Germans don't have pockets or else they are not noticeable. I canceled my patrol figures order. The inked pockets look too amateur for the cost of the set. The sculpture is great but whose idea to mess up the front of the figures. Leadmen
