I swear, but have never sworn on here in twenty years or so, but that is as much a testament to the generally good nature of the Treefroggers imo. The only time I really wanted to swear was when an apparently recidivist t####r was in full antagonistic/disruptive mode, but even then I was ably supported by others and he stopped.

Although, I did once suggest a bloke might want to sail up the St Lawrence in a coracle .... Not quite #### ###, but close.

I may be censored here for bad language, since some will consider the phrase "don't talk wet", borderline, though it only means don't be silly !

Most of the time when I swear, it's for emphasis/making my feelings on something crystal clear, or I'm torqued off.

Along with collecting toy soldiers, sports and relating to my girlfriend in a non verbal manner, swearing is one of my hobbies.

It's funny in regards to swearing. Without thinking depending on who I am around. I either do not use curse words around family, people I don't know and maybe a few other circumstances. But with my buddies at the gym or my police friends every other word would be censored!

Some people's accents and use of local slang terms can certainly leave a person not understanding what someone may say.
In face to face conversations, a thick Scottish accent can be hard to penetrate.
Phone conversations to broadband suppliers overseas based staff are usually the most frustrating, with having to constantly ask them to repeat and eventually ending hoping that what you're guessing they may be saying is correct !

The increasing use of regional accents is just another thing I can add to my increasing list of 'things that annoy me' as I age :unsure: :)

Not to mention random expressions such as 'Dogging', even the locals get confused with that 😁

On a more serious note, and extending this 'censoring' beyond this forum, is overzealous censoring of 'swearing' another example of increased 'anti male' (Misandry) actions in society?

I believe it is, and it's another issue I have added to 'things that annoy me', to the degree that I now rarely provide any kind of assistance to females I'm not related to, it's just not worth it IMO. It doesn't matter if it's an older female neighbour that wants some free handyman work done, or some woman trying to put heavy bags of groceries in her car at the supermarket, sorry, not my 'problem' anymore.

About a week ago I was as the supermarket and as you enter, along the wall is where all the carriages go, usually when they herd them back into the store they smash them together so they often stick..................a lady was yanking on the last one trying to free it up from the rest of the herd so I politely said "Here, let me assist you with this" to which she snapped "I CAN DO IT MYSELF!!!".............hmmm...........ok then you old battleaxe, lesson learned, won't try that one again and I'll leave my knight in shining armor suit in the closet where it belongs.

Sad, though isn't it and it goes against the social behaviour and manners that we learned as children and just doesn't hang well in who you are, even after encountering such rebuffs
 
I will say, in person I let it fly (depending on the company and setting!), but typing in a public space...prefer to keep it clean! Just imagine you are speaking in front of a bunch of terddlers!

And I for one will take every chivalrous piece of help I can! Just because I can do something, doesn't mean I have to...but that's me! Granted I've hurt myself enough times doing more than I am physically capable of, and I'm over that!

I've had similar experiences with opening doors etc, and your encounter reminds me of a recent 'incident' with a 'Trolley Bay' when I reversed into one at a local shopping mall, dented the back of my old Mitsubishi Outlander. The metal piping was hard to see being low and dark grey colour, and my eyesight isn't the best being 65 years old at the time. All sorted in August when I purchased a new Hyundai Santa Fe for my retirement travels, it has reversing cameras and heaps of other random beeping alarms that I'm still getting used to, at least I'm less likely to reverse into stuff, including 'terddlers' ;)
 
Have enjoyed the last few pages, lot of blokey banter and the sweary thingy has been interesting. I too have a potty mouth, however try to refrain using profanity on TF if I'm able.

There has been the odd occasion when a good swerve of go duck yourself would have been warranted IMO, but managed to keep things civil, largely out of respect for Julie & the Mods and of course fellow members.

In saying that society has become particularly PC and it seems to take little effort to offend these days, not that will ever stop me, however there's always a time and a place I guess.

I enjoy helping others if the circumstances call for it, but can relate to George's experience......some folks enjoy being grumpy old farts no matter what.

I just smile and wave and laugh at the idiots, of which there are many.....
