A mistake nations make is fighting a war like the last war. We and the French did this in Vietnam, failing to adapt to new realities. We are doing it here, fighting a conventional war without adapting to a drone war.

This is what has happened to the Russians but they have adapted somewhat.
 
Speaking of Putin and the Russians they are not as strong as some think they are. The Russians actually now have a net loss in land for the first time in a few years. The Ukrainians are bringing the war home to the Russians, sending drones as far away as Yekaterinburg, 1,000 miles away from Ukraine, sending a message we can reach you. The war is a stalemate, which if it continues and it probably will does not bode well for his continued rule. There is a lot more grumbling in the political classes. Recently a prominent Russian blogger complained about a variety of problems that are not being addressed. Moscow had to acknowledge her criticism.

Normally, Russia has celebrations commemorating the end of WWII with lots of missiles and flashy weapons but this year’s version was a slimmed down affair because of the fear of Ukrainian reprisals. Although Putin attended the parade, he mostly spends time in an underground bunker as he’s deadly afraid he will be killed by Ukrainians or Russians not happy with the progress of the war or economic conditions. Reportedly, he does not allow his cooks or aides to use the internet or communicate with smart phones, only land line phones.

Does this sound like a man in control?

with the lack of televised coverage lately...and Iran dominating the news...coupled with US politics...
I have not been following new developments between Russia and the Ukraine for some time...

I was not aware Putin cowered in a bunker to avoid being assassinated...
or the net loss of land for Russia...

Putin sounds like he is becoming more paranoid or careful by forbidding electronic communication by those close to him...

Russia grossly underestimated the Ukraine's resolve...as I did too...but I applaud their resilience and resistance...

as the current US administration has reduced new funding and stepped back from leading defense coordination...I hope the Ukraine can hold out...

but yes...sadly...Putin is still in charge...the strongest dissidents seem to be murdered...disappear or sent off to gulags...

the one thing that still bites on me the most...is Russia's obvious and intentional attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructures...war crimes by any other name...

I hope Iran doesn't fare as well...and the war with them doesn't last much longer...

We are fighting a conventional war in Iran? The military aspect of this conflict lasted a couple of weeks, not decades like the wars waged by our establishment politicians. No boots on the ground etc. This is now primarily an economic conflict to see who blinks first. Our media and many politicians are highlighting the price increases at the pumps (which are not as high as under Biden) in an effort to pressure a premature ending to advance their own political interests. The blockade should stay in place until Iran sees reason. If that is another few months, so be it. The end game has to involve Iran giving up its nuclear program. Turing the uranium over to Russia, Pakistan or some third party other than the US to save face. Other politicians would have kicked the can as they have always done until Iran developed a nuclear weapon. Trump is willing to take the political flak to solve that problem.
 
Trump rightfully rejected Iran’s proposal which included recognizing ownership or control over the Strait but he’s the one who got us into this situation. He once said I alone can fix it or something like that. Well, here’s one he better fix.

Trump got us into this situation? Don't you think the Iranians bear responsibility for 50 years of terrorism etc? And the only difference here is that Trump is willing to take the political hit to try to solve a longstanding problem that other politicians - both democrat and republican - have kicked the can to future generations. Will it work? Who knows? But at least he is trying to correct decades of botched policies that has nearly resulted with Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon with the avowed public policy to destroy Israel and the US.

It reminds me a lot of COVID where many politicians and media put their own interests ahead of the country. The Iranians are banking on Trump capitulating to these pressures. Trump should maintain the blockade. If that means above average gas prices and short term political harm, so be it. If the situation is unchanged in a couple of months, time to send the Israelis in to retrieve the uranium. Once that occurs, Trump can declare victory.

Send the Israeli’s in? Are you talking boots on the ground? Would Israel do that if we asked? I have not heard that discussed before.

The Israeli's would be a little overstretched to say the least and the least likely that would be acceptable to the ordinary Iranian people, let alone the IRGC who would be foaming at the mouth at the very thought of that, or any of the Gulf arabs, particularly the Qataris who've been playing host to the higher echelons of Iran's proxy's Hamas etc for years. Be melt down time for them !
However, Uganda recently offered troops to Israel (Hoping never to have to actually do anything though) that might be acceptable at a push, probably more acceptable than US troops would be considering the forty seven years of Death to USA / Israel propaganda cool aid they've been slurping on !
Maybe a third party the Nuclear material handover would be to Pakistan. Good luck with getting Pakistan to hand it over without Billions more in Aid to their failed economy though.
But it's still a long way from that happening, the IRGC still have plenty of plan B's C's and D's to try out first with thousands of deaths each time.
Remember they've been preparing for this war with all the secret tunnels and underground storage for forty seven years, and thanks to Obama miles and miles of it were paid for by US Taxpayers !

The Israelis with US support can stage a raid into Iran to acquire the uranium. That's assuming that it is obtainable and not buried under rubble. The US and Israel have the intelligence capability to identify the area and secure it for a period of time necessary to get in and out. Israel has the greatest incentive to send in the ground forces for this purpose. I believe this would take hours rather than days on the ground. The best alternative is that Iran sees reason and cuts a deal to voluntarily turn the uranium over to a neutral third party like Pakistan or Russia in which case they save face by not capitulating to the US. That is an out for everyone, but Iran's track record with using reason is not good. I don't see an end to this until the nuclear program has been resolved.
 
The US can now call on another 2000 Marines with the arrival of the USS Boxer and support ships with additional heavy lifting Hovercraft, helicopters and Jets, a couple of days ago and with them, lots of options.
Seems along with the accidental / Deliberate Oil spillage of a few days ago, which may be to do with Iran, casting round for anywhere, including leaky old tankers, as somewhere to store oil in.
They are also threatening to cut the internet cables laid in the Persian Gulf, thereby not just effecting individuals but also the surrounding countries abilities to do global trading, with attacks on any food or anything else, being shipped, including the bulk national purchases of wheat etc which could cause food shortages in those countries.
All of which diverts attention away from the one thing that matters, the nuclear material !

Reading yet another peace proposal on the table and can’t help feeling these so called negotiations are a huge smoke screen, simply designed to distract.

Sadly I can see this conflict spreading and drawing in more players with no real end game in-sight.

Iran has proven to be a far more resilient adversary and even with boots on the ground will end up being a long protracted war of attrition. There is also signs both Russia and China will enter it in some capacity on the Iranian side which will complicate matters further.

almost every single one is a revenge post against his enemies...need to pay attention to Americans and the war in Iran...
