    looking for diorama backgrounds

I know this question was asked here before, but it's been over ten years and companies recommended seem to be out of business. Are there any current sources that are operating? Thanks

The Result of Poor Packing (Again)

Mike, I took your suggestion about using soda straws to protect things like bayonets and lances and passed it along to another Ebay seller. He used it to protect a set of pre-War Britains that I bought to great success. Thanks.

Wm Britains symposium at Frazier History Museum

Well, I've been there and done that. Impressive display of toy soldiers, artillery, even toy castles. Some 144 manufacturers besides Britains. Rounds, semi-rounds, flats and paper soldiers. If you go there allow a couple of hours. Everything on the same floor. Several restaurants nearby and a...

    Flatties , zinnfiguren

Go to the IFFS website and look for the link to the (In) Compleat Kieler. It is a treasure trove of information about flats made by Alloys Ochel the biggest editor (manufacturer) on flats outside of Heinrichsen. Are you a collector?

    Time For New Releases

For those who can make it to Louisville, KY Ken and Ericka Osen will be conducting a symposium in honor of 125 years of Britains Ltd February 23rd. They might answer some of your questions and concerns. (See my earlier post under "Britains Glossy.")

    Ron Wall

I don't know the state of his health, but it appears that he is not producing figures any more. A shame as they were really well done.

The Result of Poor Packing (Again)

My experience with sellers (Ebay or otherwise) is that most are not as exacting about their packaging as they should be. They need to be told if items arrive bent or damaged. Your suggestion was helpful, and I am surprised it was not acted on. I don't give a seller a third chance no matter how...

    STG44's collection

And while you're at it take a look at p 128 - the "Nuremburg" Elastolin castle. My wife gave it to me for Christmas some 25+ years ago. Hickling's book is a great source and it makes me wonder why I didn't go into collecting toy castles when they were still available. Of course lack of $$$$ and...

    Ebay auction for 2200-figure collection

They do look like these are wargame figures. A lot of painting (and time) must have gone into this collection. That probably justifies the price - in the seller's mind. I'd recommend to him that he split the figures into (A) Romans and (B) Napoleonics and sell them separately. The price and...

    Elastolin collectors

STG and katana, Sounds as if you grew up in NYC or close to it. I envy your toy soldier memories. My folks would take my younger brother and me to New York around Thanksgiving when my older brother was in college/grad school. That's when I'd go to FAO Schwarz and Polks. The city also felt...

    STG44's collection

If you're interested in more info about toy castles from "days of yore," take a look at Allen Hickling's book. It's being sold on Ebay and Amazon. (Don't go higher than $55 though. Some on Ebay are asking twice as much.)

    STG44's collection

(Joining in a little late but...) Neat collection STG44. I especially like your 70mm Vikings/Normans. I too have some of those Britains Herald figures which I consider superior to the later plastics they made. And that castle - is it a Triang product?

    Elastolin collectors

Ah and then there was Corr's in Washington, D.C. It had loads of Britains. As for my Elastolins I borught them locally in Saint Louis at a store called "As You Like It." They were composition and while I still have most of them there is an aging problem. My 70mm plastics are a favorite...
