Prelude to Napoleon's first defeat: Austrians win at Nussdorf

Any Austrian collectors please post corresponding scenes of Austrians engaged in this mammoth campaign. We will show the bridges of Lobau and some unique components over the coming months but would appreciate some appearance by "the other side" in the spirit of fun. There are obviously some...

    Ale.

Andy has often said that the diorama setting is a bit like a stage, and the arrangement of the figures to fit it then tells the story. This "stage" was made several years ago and designed around the concept of a universal European building. Little has changed of thes preserved artefacts over...

    Rats

I recall visiting a museum in Ypres several years ago where there were scale1:1 Dioramas featuring these trench rabbits, and the size alone was fearsome. I cannot imagine being able to sleep with these creatures around let alone the damp and the ordinance.

    To much wine!

The ninth Hussars were with Colbert's brigade in Lannes' II Corps during the battle of Aspern and Essling. But the brigade was unable to join the fight, being isolated on the Vienna side of the Danube when the Austrians broke the bridges.

    On leave : Gone fishing.

Thanks Wayne, This was a test of economy rather than Magic, and remains a works in progress. Fun with Lemax is definitely recommended as they are easy to touch up in matte, and easy to convert with head swaps etc. This was an hour's work with some garden stones and coarse river sand, and perhaps...

Prelude to Napoleon's first defeat: Austrians win at Nussdorf

Archduke Charles was to say later that without the repulse at Nussdorf, there would have been no battle at Aspern and Essling. Napoleon was miffed by the delay and let his impatience overrule his judgement. He was aware that around 100,000 Austrians were on the other side of the river and his...

Prelude to Napoleon's first defeat: Austrians win at Nussdorf

Having driven the Austrian Army back across the Danube, Napoleon was keen to get to grips and destroy Charles' cohesive force. But the Danube posed a major hurdle. His first attempt to cross at Nussdorf was thwarted by vigorous resistance, and Napoleon was forced to withdraw as casualties...

    An apple a day.

A bit of local produce doesn't go astray. And the Aussies are good at finding it. Another great set of figures.

That's a great selection of figures Wayne. They all work so well together in the story.

    How much can one bear!

Nice work Wayne and really on the money. This diorama follows a theme we have been developing across several periods with the combination of three elements: road, bridge and water. We spent a lot of time with a Napoleonic project to be unveiled at Howard Woods' event next month north of...

    Village people.

Now he's being modest. The creation of the setting is all Wayne's work. We sourced and trialled the figures for fit but the composition is all Wayne's, and a really good job made of it.

    Village people.

A good play on the music but alas, this line is mainly civilian - but great selection of complementary figures for swelling a crowd scene in a size compatible with most of the 1:30 manufacturers. Great fun at affordable prices for diorama use. Not collector figures but rather usable figures -...

There will be bears and other animals, in Melbourne Robin, but this one is a common brand from Toyworld :)

    How much can one bear!

A collaborative project for fun - we did the backdrop on a 90 degree curve to create depth; two JG backdrops joined. The water is single pour and figures cannot sit on it without slowly sinking; so we put them on gladwrap, which provides the effect of motion under the canoe. There is a large...
