Burn the Town and Sack the Banks by Cathryn Price . . . an easy read about a Confederate attack on St. Albans, Vermont in October of 1864. (Also the fact that many Canadians sympathized with the South during the American Civil War, which I don't really remember learning about when I was younger.)
Read that article yesterday as well . . . but Woodstock's 40th seems to get more publicity this year. Maybe next year, when it will be the 65th anniversary? (But I've got to admit . . . I seem to be more aware of Pearl Harbor and D-Day remembrances than of VE and VJ day commemorations.)
That makes sense to consider good and bad influences . . . Time magazine has named quite a few less-than-nice people as the "Man of the Year" because of the effect (good or bad) they had on news / on the world. (Hitler was one of them.)
Is it just world war, or was it the combination of global economic crisis and global conflict together? And you have WWII as the last "good" war . . . many of the conflicts since then haven't been as easy to define in terms of "us" against "them" without getting really political.
And for the...
Interesting thought, but I think if you truly want to attract "younger" collectors, it would have to be something like "Harry Potter", "Twilight", or something else TV/movie/video game related.
That's the one . . . I have quite a few more of the metal Britains ACW soldiers, but they're in storage and I'm not sure when I'll have room and the opportunity to get them back out in the near future.:(
If you want livestock, check toy stores, and also the Christmas villages made by companies by like Lemax and Department 56 . . . scale may be an issue, but there are some decent options that aren't too expensive out there.
(The cow below is by Lemax in a small display on a night table.)
Yeah, but it would be great to mix in the "rougher" side of life in the 1930's with Department 56's "Christmas In the City" series . . . and don't forget, there are also the police and feds like Hoover (I know, he's a strange piece of work!) and Ness.
Don't forget, if you plan on doing any painting of figures, there's also the Britains Super Deetail "Wild West 7th Cavalry Foot" and "Wild West 7th Cavalry Mounted" figures that aren't bad!
Just did . . . for the four sets of painted ACW figures, they all say:
"*This item is out of stock. The manufacturer has no re-stock date at this time, but has not announced that it is discontinued."
But even if there isn't much available, are you likely to buy it if/when you do see it? Are you likely to suggest it if asked by toy soldier companies what new areas they should explore? Then maybe you could consider yourself "passionate" about collecting it, even though you aren't currently...
Yeah, but what about those of us who are torn in our decision and would like more than one thing?!?
It really depends on what the question/subject is as to whether you should have more than one voting option or not; sometimes, limiting choices can result in polls that have misleading results...
Re: Seriously - Is CONTE Still in Business ?
Does CONTE know who's still a dealer?!?
On the website, if you check for dealers
it says "Dealer's Page Under Construction" and doesn't list anyone.
