Exactly.........I'm for some reason reminded of Churchill's decision to send the ill-fated Allied troops to defend Greece and the dire state many were left to defend Crete. The author goes into this during the book's introduction. After the capitulation of the Mussolini's Fascist Italian...

Picked up a hardcover copy of 'The Long Range Desert Group in the Aegean' by Kiwi author Brendan O'Carroll and published in 2020. It follows on from his previous 4x books about the famous LRDG. I'm only 2x chapters in but its a goodie already. Its primarily about the Allied occupation of the...

    Masters of the Air

.....with all that lead flying about I'm sure 'friendly fire' resulted in some un-intended casualties too. The pre-mature dropping of pay-loads was also a major problem and also resulted in many allied lives ending as a consequence. I recall more than one Kiwi WW2 Italian campaign veteran...

    Masters of the Air

I enjoyed the series, however I'm going to go out on a limb here........ I felt it was rushed and deserved at least a couple more episodes and more character development. The anti Brit episode was un-necessary and IMO disrespectful, given the circumstances and topic and sacrifices by all...

    True Detective

I enjoyed the first series most of all to be honest and could watch it again.... I don't get this recent theme of making some crimes shows 'weird and whacky' to try and make them entertaining nor is it realistic. Yes there are lots of nut jobs out there doing 'bad things' however in my...

    Masters of the Air

Your post reminded me of Kiwi WW2 airman James Allen ward who was awarded the VC for climbing onto a Wellington's wing in flight to put a fire out.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Allen_Ward

Churchill's letter to Stalin asking him to speed up the Soviet offensive 1945.

Oh I'm not arguing with you, that would be a complete waste of time. My approach has always been that winning WW2 (if you can call it that) was the result of a combined effort by all the Allies, including Russia. Clearly some allies suffered more than others to achieve that result. There's no...

Churchill's letter to Stalin asking him to speed up the Soviet offensive 1945.

The not do subtle inference of your posts are that Russia alone saved the Allied cause during WW2, which of course is total bumpkin...... Had the Japanese threat to Russia not subsided during the later stages of the war, all those lovely Russian divisions would have continued to languish out...

    Masters of the Air

Age & inexperience no doubt contributing..... My English father in-law who began his career in the RAF as a tail-gunner in 'Wellingtons' during WW2 and had his entire crew wiped out when his young pilot performed an unauthorized acrobatic maneuver and crashed the bomber. The father-in-law was...

Is War Park and First Legion still in business?

Sounds like a troll to me, fishing for a reaction. Best option is to ignore them and not give them air.
