Hi Guys,

The weekend is almost upon us so I thought I’d put in my tuppence worth…

1. “Reporting as ordered, Sir”
Our good friend Steve Davis does some terrific photo montages using K&C and this, I have to say, is one of his finest! The lighting, the mood and atmosphere…combined with a nice bit of storytelling make for a superb little diorama. Congrats Steve and very well done!

2. “Major Yorke”
Robin’s (Village Horse) cavalry dios also tell a couple of great stories and look like he had a lot of fun putting them together. Hope we’ll get a chance to meet up in OZ next month, Robin.

3. “Next for RAF range”
Actually here at K&C HQ we’ve not made up our minds exactly what the next RAF releases will be so very much appreciate your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.

Would love to produce a Mosquito as it’s also one of my own personal favorites…Unlike Mitch I think there’s a whole lot of great RAF related vehicles, aircraft and figures that could still be produced…the difficulty is not coming up with the idea…it’s choosing the right one!
I also like the recovery Scammel vehicle…Could also be used (in different colour schemes) for 8th.Army and Normandy.
So, who knows?

4. “Bletchley Park Idea”
Not sure this one would fly…going by the lack of response from other treefroggers. History is full of interesting ideas but not every historical event lends itself to reproducing in miniature.

5. “Pacific War”
It’s interesting that the subject comes up time after time…like many collectors I’m personally very interested in it BUT its sales appeal appears to be limited compared to both European Theatre… North Africa…and Russian Front. Look at the appeal of “The Pacific” compared to “Band of Brothers”. Like many of you I’ve watched “BOB” countless times…I’ve only watched “The Pacific” once!!!
Why, I don’t really know both were expertly made and produced by basically the same team but “BOB” has that extra something.
However as I’ve been reminded and remind myself…NEVER SAY NEVER!

6. James Gandolfini
Like many of you I was truly saddened to hear of the sudden death of this highly talented actor. I love “The Sopranos” and James (Tony) was the centerpiece that held this fantastic ensemble cast together. I saw him in several other productions as well and thought him an extremely gifted and flexible character actor who would have had a long and memorable career still ahead of him. He will be sorely missed R.I.P.

Best wishes and happy weekend!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for posting mate. Will look forward with interest to what you decide to go with for the next group of RAF releases:salute::

I know not exactly RAF but some Observer Corp spotters would be cool!

Right, I 'll shut up now!^&grin

Best

Rob

Ok, I know I said I'd shut up, but as my wife will testify that rarely happens, so here are two final suggestions before I go cook Jamie Oliver's five hour Lamb for dinner later. I would love to see a set featuring The King and Queen with Winston Churchill as they may have appeared visiting Bentley Priory Fighter Command HQ in Stanmore at the height of the Battle of Britain. They did this often and stood together watching the Battle unfold beneath them on the map table. But a set like this could be used on any airfield dio as visit boosting morale so to speak.

Also Andy mentioned other personalities in the future and here is a well deserved example of such. Bob (Robert) Stanford Tuck DSO DFC TWO BARS ,AFC. He was a prolific ACE and Battle of Britain hero with a final tally of 26 kills. He also suffered a terrible piece of luck when a German bomber he was attacking dropped its bombs and fled, the bombs jettisoned killed just one person, the husband of Stanford Tuck's sister. After the War he became good friends with Adolf Galland, in fact Tuck was godfather to one of Galland's children.

Just two suggestions that I thought might make for cool sets. Right, off to cook a shoulder of Lamb in Olive oil, garlic and rosemary...yum yum:salute::

Andy if you take a minute to look I said I could not see much aircraft in terms of range and expansion being done as your chosen medium polystone just don't work for larger aircraft so, we are stuck with a few more spits and hurricanes in desert combo or some similar in D-Day camo maybe a RAF P-51 but, its limited like I said. Contrary to what some will dive on and say there is only so many versions of a Spit and Hurri one can have

If you also note I did say Jeeps and aircrew etc fire crew/vehicle were all overdue and welcome so, I was not trying to say the range was over. Nice to be highlighted I was just saying in PM I was feeling a little left out not being mentioned in your usual posts.

Totally agree with you on this one Andy, great actor, great TV series and he will be sadly missed.

Shame there. Nothing new coming out but I would like to see a Hawker Tempest, Mustang and a Gloster Meteor

Good to hear from you Andy.

Rob, lamb is one of my favorite meals. You've just inspired me to pick up some lamb soon for an upcoming meal. Thanks mate. :smile2:

Love the idea of an 8th Army Scammel. It's been a while since we've seen any 8th Army N. Africa vehicles.

Regards,

Neil, Meteor would be cool, as would a black Hurricane night fighter.

Good to hear from you Andy.

My pleasure my friend, enjoy!:smile2:

Did someone say there will be a K&C Sopranos set coming out!!!! {sm4} I'm a definite buyer of that one!

There is nothing I rather see than the King & Queen with Winston Churchill touring London during the Blitz

Andy:

The Scammel will be a great addition to KC's British 8th Army and Normandy series. The Scammel is UK answer to the U.S. Diamond T 980/981. The latter pulled the M-19 Rogers Recovery Trailer and the former pulled the UK manufactured Cranes Mk-1 12 (Twin wheel) 40 Ton Tank Transporter/Recovery Trailer. The British used both vehicles and trailers during the war.

Photos show the Scammel and the Diamond T 980/981 pulling the Cranes Mk-1 40-ton trailer.

Pacific War, just saying. I'm glad Andy is still thinking about the series.

I've always wondered why the Pacific is not so much more popular with our US friends than it appears to be, I'd have thought they would be all over such a range^&confuse

Rob, I am a huge WWII fanatic but always seem drawn to the European Theater of Conflict.......for whatever reason as I'm sure many others are in the same boat.

I know it is all about perception but could it be that for the Allies the war in the West is remembered as a 'cleaner' conflict and not so racially charged? Larso can help me out here but he lent me a book years ago that dealt with the attitudes of American soldiers to combat based on wartime questionnaires. One of the startling differences was the attitude to potentially having to kill Germans as opposed to doing the same in the Pacific. The differences were indeed startling. I have no doubt it was the same for Australian troops, perhaps even more so, but even given the anger over Pearl Harbor and the large German population in the USA, there were (and perhaps still are) views about the war shaped by non-military considerations that make it less popular. Certainly for you armoured guys there is probably a lot less appeal to a Japanese tank than a Tiger or Panther. Before I started collecting I would have bet the house that WW2 Marines would be one of the best selling ranges.
