100 Greatest War Movies of All Time (1 Viewer)

Oz, are we short of a good film about Aussies in WW2, apart from The Desert Fox? - I think that had some fair dinkum Aussies??? did I get the right one????

Any you would recommend for the Pacific for example...?

Any Aussie films that had Chips Rafferty in them were just....well brilliant:eek:
On reflection though he was in every single one of them:D:D:D

..."High Road to China" is a pretty enjoyable romp as well. Set just after WWI, Beth Armstrong is the "feisty dame" who hires ex-ace Tom Selleck and his two Tiger Moth planes to fly from Turkey through Afghanistan and over the Himalayas to China in search of her missing father. It's kinda got the same feel as the first Indiana movie, without attaining the same "style" - and Tom's moustache is hilarious...!!!

WAIT A MINUTE HARRY, have you got a HRTC DvD? I didn't think it had ever been released:confused: If you do, I want one too (Region 1 of course).;):D (

regarding australians in ww2 films, does anyone remember "Attack Force Z" with psuedo Aussie Mel Gibson? was a pretty decent movie as i recall with a very good cast.- lancer

Check out Kokoda if you want to see Aussies in WWII, specifically the Pacific Theater; I've seen bits and pieces of it on YouTube and it looks pretty good to me...........

Your loss mate; I doubt Steve is weeping o're it, whereever he is.;)

Hey Spit, McQueen was a good actor, and I enjoyed most of his movies. But for me there was to much human interest bs in 'The Sand Pebbles' to keep me interested. I prefer war movies with more action and less cultural relations, love interest etc.

I agree George, Kokoda is a good tell it like it was movie. There are very few Australian made movies based on WWII, especially in recent times. But a number of older movies include Australian characters such as The Desert Rats, The Dam Busters etc.

For those interested, here's a wiki list of Aussie films, with a few that you may not have known were Australian Films. Btw, there is a new movie coming out called Australia which is set during WWII, but I'm not sure if it would be in the War Movie genre.

Yeah I do have it on DVD Spit.
Got it via Amazon who I think had it supplied via some dealer in Sweden. The blurb on the cover is in Swedish, but the movie itself is in English. Can't remember off hand what region code it is. Doesn't matter though cos our player is a multi-region model.

Some of the scenic images as Beth and Tom fly over the Himalayas are stunning. As is Beth - and as is that moustache of Tom's....:D

Cheers

I heard They are going to remake Magnum as a movie. Possibly with Matthew McConaughey in the lead role. Not sure who is going to play the moustache though. :D
