2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (3 Viewers)

Ahhh......A sweet bit of revenge served up to the Jays as Trumbo wins the game for the O's in extra innings, maybe not a playoff game like last October be it's good way to start the season.

Trumbo is on pace for 162 home runs this season. He can out pace Mad Bum since he plays every day!

Seriously, a few years ago when ESPN introduced the stat-trac that allowed for predictions it would have actually said that. I think they fixed that glitch and you can't get a prediction on HRs etc. until they get to a certain point in the season and/or at-bats.

Sammy:

Speaking of the O's, I saw some highlights where Machado made some great defensive plays yesterday. He is an amazing third baseman and only 24 years old.

The NY teams must be very happy with the World Baseball Classic. Didi Gregorius of the Yankees was hurt playing for the Netherlands and will be out for several weeks. Seth Lugo of the Mets, who pitched for Puerto Rico, has a partially torn UCL and will be out for awhile; no surgery will be needed however.

O's 2-0 after winning 3-1 tonight. Britton a little shaky but got the save. Best thing about tonight was Bundy going 7 excellent innings for the O's. A very encouraging sign, for many reasons. And the Thunderbirds performed as Jones and Davis went deep. A good game. -- Al

Not a bad little series for the O's, great pitching for the most part, and of course a couple of Jacks in the series at the right time didn't hurt, again if Gausman, Bundy, can hold the ship together through this month then we get Tillman back who sounds like he is ready to go now, and as I stated before I love T. Wilson as a starter, anyway bring on the bombers from NY.

I am not going to hit the panic button 4 games into the season but a 1-3 start was not what I envisioned for the Giants this season, especially against Arizona. I hope they can make up a few games against a woeful San Diego team this weekend.

Mr. Murphy has taken up where he left off last year for the Nats. He has mulitple hits in all 5 games this year and is hitting .524, not too shabby even if it is only 5 games in. -- Al

So much for getting well against San Diego. The Giants have lost the first 2 games of the series wasting a gem by Bumgarner yesterday. It is still very early but at some point it won't be.

Oh no...my fav. O's pitcher Miley starts today :(...if he gets out of the 3rd I'll be shocked.

Go figure. Miley has an excellent outing, leaves with the lead, and it's the reliable bullpen that blows the game out of the water. Oh well, that's basabol. :rolleyes2: -- Al

The Giants need to consider changing their name to the Johnny Cuetos. Their pitchers have 2 wins this season and he has both of them.

They're just having some troubles getting untracked. I see the DBacks are off to a good start but in relation to the Dodgers they are not far behind.

It's good to see that after all the uncertainty regarding the Nats bullpen, both off-season and spring training, that evidently nothing has been worked out.:rolleyes2: The bullpen has been the weak point in a most glaring way, directly responsible for 2 losses and making close games out of 2 others that shouldn't have been close. Now, I know we're only 6 games in and that a 3-3 record is not a disaster, but it won't get better as long as the bullpen is a handgrenade with the pin pulled, waiting to explode in the Nat's faces. Question is, what to do? The problem wasn't fixed over the off-season or in spring training. No need to panic, yet, but someone has to start doing their job or management will have to make wholesale changes. Optimistically, perhaps the pen will round into shape with time, but the question is how long can the Nats wait? -- Al

I haven't paid attention but who is the closer?

The Mets pen has been pretty good and they haven't missed Familia yet but the offense is shaky so far.

Blake Treinen is the current closer, but it was by default and while he has 3 saves, he hasn't been very sharp, being really effective in only 1 of his 4 games. Of the other 2 possibilities, Glover has no real experience (but he is the 'closer of the future'), and Kelley has been ineffective. Like I say, it's real early, and the group may yet round into shape, but results haven't been encouraging so far. Actually, the pen stats are horrible, 21 appearences, 20.1 innings, 29 hits allowed, 17 ER's allowed. Pretty grim.
I've seen the Mets play a few times and the starting pitching has been pretty impressive with one exception. Thor and Harvey look real sharp. -- Al

Just an open question to those that participate on this tread:

Have you noticed how vacant most stadiums seem? I have watched games everyday since the season started and I can't recall a year where I saw so many empty seats?

I've seen the same thing but I don't think it unusual for this early in the season, with weather iffy, kids still in class, and such. East coast games can get really quite cool at night. -- Al

Al:

That makes sense. I brought it up when I noticed it on the weekend games and even one of the broadcasters mentioned it.

I forgot about the weather, then again that is what happens when you spend too much time in Northern California.

From what I've seen Citi Field seems pretty crowded as does Citizens Bank Park where the Phillies play; the attendance at CB could be partially due to the Mets fans who drive down to watch the games.
