2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (2 Viewers)

From what I've seen Citi Field seems pretty crowded as does Citizens Bank Park where the Phillies play; the attendance at CB could be partially due to the Mets fans who drive down to watch the games.
Phillies had good crowds for the Nats series, as well. I think the announcers said they had 105,000 for the 3 games. -- Al

I might be watching the wrong games. Plus I think the days of constant sell-outs are long gone.

O's starting pitcher, uBADo, is up to his old self again. Given a 9-0 lead after 3 innings, he couldn't even last the 5 innings necessary to qualify for the win before driving Buck crazy and necessitating his relief, having give up 5 runs in 4.1 innings. At least the O's still lead 9-5 after 5. uBADo is hopeless.:rolleyes2: -- Al

How in God's name has that guy still have a roster spot??:mad: give Wilson, ANYONE else a shot but that dude, not sure what it will take for the O's to dump him?? oh I know..he'll pitch 1 decent game out of 5 or 6 debacles and Buck will say "see just got to have some faith"...and I ran out of faith on that guy long ago.

He really is hopeless. He lasted 4.1 innings, giving up 5 ER's in his first start and liked it so much he did it again in tonight's start; 4.1 innings and 5 ER's. At least he's consistently...BAD. {eek3} -- Al

I think I heard on the MLB Network that he makes about 13 mil a year. That is nothing nowadays, you would think that they have a other options if they gave him his outright release?

Everytime that subject comes up (after just about every one of his starts), the answer always comes back to two factors; salary and who takes his place. The O's are notoriously tight with money and are loath to cut Jimenez because of the money. Fortunately, this is the last year of what was a 4 year, $50 million signing. The other reason, who takes his place, is much more problematic. If the O's has anyone to use in his place, they would have done so long ago. The O's have consistently failed to sign viable starting pitching and have depended on stop-gap measures. There simply isn't anyone to take the place of Jimenez, sad as that is. Starting pitching has been and will continue to be the Achilles Heel of a team that can hit and field as well as any other in MLB, and can contend in spite of the starting rotation. With the development of Gausman and Bundy, at least the O's have a couple of reliable pitchers to go with Tillman, a better situation than previous seasons, and, as said, this is the last year of the Jimenez contract, so maybe the O's will be forced to pursue a decent FA pitcher. I'm holding my breath.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Don't hold your breath to long Al ^&grin...well at least Gausman pitches today and also good to hear that Tillman is working his pitch count at Bowie, now hold onto to your hat Al....I'm curious to see what Miley will bring in tommorow's game??he pitched very well (shocker!!) in his first outing against the Yanks, so I'm hoping lightening strikes twice for the guy!! :):)

Al:

Good answer. It is a shame that a franchise that is so solid on offense and in the field lacks depth in their starting rotation. You would think that management would be able to see that. Then again, like you said, if they are tight with money then they are unlikely to do much about anything that has an inherent cost.

At least the Giants' slow start is not the biggest surprise so far. I think that prize goes to Toronto. They are 1-8 and have only scored 24 runs in 9 games.

Well Al, I know 2 games do not make a season, but got to give it to Miley he has been solid in 2 outings, 3 ER tonite but 8 strikeouts in 6 innings..I'll take that all day with the O's chances of scoring runs in bunches, Britton seems to be a little shaky (even though he has 5 saves already) in the last few outings, kinda got that Don Stanhouse from the 70's happening...puts to many guys on before shutting the door!! think Weaver use to call him 2 pack...2 packs of smokes for Weaver's nerves!!^&grin^&grin

I well remember Stanhouse and I sure hope Britton rights himself because my nerves will never withstand another Stanhouse (he averaged 6 BB per 9 innings when with the O's). So far, Miley has looked good, as has Bundy, and Gausman came around, too. O's are tough when they can get good starting pitching, as tough as anyone in the AL East. -- Al

O's hit 4HRs on their way to a 6-4 win. :salute:: Chris
The O's lineup can bop with the best. O's have 10 Hr's in the 9 games, and Trumbo and Machado haven't gotten untracked yet. -- Al

Manny is 0-8 in last 2 games. :rolleyes2: Trumbo hit a foul straight back into the umpire's face mask. He almost passed out and left the field on a stretcher.

Britton not great, but good enough last night. Got the save with 2 men on in the 9th. Chris

Nats and O's both let down by the bullpens today, both wasting excellent starting pitching jobs. Nats bullpen lost another game, which is in keeping with their trainwreck of a season so far. O's bullpen has been decent but a walk-off Hr in the bottom of the 9th got them today, in Toronto. Maybe Sunday will be a better day for both teams. -- Al

With apologies to those who like change, the only time the Cardinals should be playing the Yankees is in the World Series.

I agree. I hate interleague play. It ruins the one thing that makes the World Series compelling when your team isn't playing in it: watching a match-up of teams you never see play each other.
