2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (3 Viewers)

As some wise old baseball sage once said, (including several of you all), it's all about the pitching. Congrats to the Astros and Dodgers. Quality won out. Now on to the WS and the pitching match-up worthy of the event, Kershaw vs Verlander. -- Al
Blast. I was hoping for a Kershaw v Verlander match-up but the Astros are starting Keuchel against Kershaw in Game 1. That;s a decent pairing, but I suppose that means no Verlander/Kershaw meeting as a scheduled game. -- Al

It's probably because he'd be pitching on three days rest whereas Keuchel would have full rest.

I guess they did :wink2:

Congrats to the Astros. I’m glad to see that the team that was an expansion along with the Mets make it to the World Series (although it’s a little weird to see them in the AL).

Brad:

What do I know? I thought the WS would be the Giants vs. the Indians. One team lost close to 100 games and the other team won 22 games in a row during the regular season while not even making it to the ALCS.

Let's also not forget the very early on in this thread I scoffed at baseball experts for picking the Astros to win the the AL West.

You can win if you take me to Vegas, just pick the opposite of what I pick.

I don’t think anyone thought Morton and McCullers, but particularly Morton, were going to pitch the way they did so I’m hardly someone to count on! Just like you I thought the Giants and the Mets would have made the playoffs so I was way off.

I think the Dodgers will win it all — they’re too loaded — but I’d like to see the Astros win. For them to win their aces have to dead on. Anything less and they’ll lose. I think the Astros were intimidated by Yankee Stadium. LA is different. They don’t call it lala land for nothing.

Brad

I know we have fans of the Dodgers and Astros on the forum so I'll wish both sides good luck and just hope for a good WS. Like to see it go 6-7 games and be worth watching, no sweep or anything like that. May the best team win and bring home the title for their hometown fans. -- Al

One thing is for sure. One of the two dominant pitchers of this era will finally get a ring, Kershaw or Verlander.

The Dodgers need game one more than the Astros. They are rested, at home and with their ace on the mound. The table is set for a game one win, but if they flub this game they are going to be in trouble. It is supposed to be one of the hottest if not the hottest WS games played in history. Interesting to see how the heat impacts the pitchers. LA is also at a bit of a home field disadvantage because they have to start these games early on the west coast for the TV audience back east. So the seats may be half empty until the fifth inning.

Brad:

I was actually going to ask how you felt about Callaway. I guess that answers that.

I'd say the response has been less than enthusiastic, not to mention that the hitting coach, who was a candidate, is understandably unhappy and may leave. I think they wanted Alex Cora but once the Red Sox got involved, they had no chance.

Aren't some of the seats usually empty until the third inning.

Most regular season games don't start at 5pm on a weekday. That only happens to west coast teams in the playoffs to accomodate the east coast TV audience. A lot of folks get stuck in traffic and work at that time. I'm pretty sure though that all the seats at Yankee Stadium will be empty this week.

Since I’m not a Yankee fan, that means little to me, to Louis, yes, to me, nope.

I realize it starts at 5pm Pacific time but it’s the World Series.

If they won’t get there until the 5th inning, they’ll have a short stay. Don’t most fans leave by the 7th? :rolleyes2:

I am not going to to venture a guess on who is going to win and in all honesty I will be happy either way.

A win for Houston would be great after all that city went through with Harvey.

A win for LA would be great because they have a few fans on this thread. Also, considering that the Giants lost 98 games, finished in last place 40 games out of first place it would be fitting for their arch rival to win the Series and complete a season of misery. Plus watching the Dodgers win it all might motivate the Giants.

All you need to know is two mistakes vs one mistake. That's your game right there.

The Commissioner must have been happy. The game was played in 2:28, economical by today's standards.

Was fun to watch a game that didn't last 3 1/2 or 4 hours. Kershaw squared his career post-season record at 7-7. -- Al

I'm pretty sure the Mets stadium is empty every October unless they rent it out for a flea market.

Nice win for LA. I like the Astros team though. They hung around and gave themselves a shot against Kershaw. Tonight is a huge game for them. Down 2-0 even going home would be a tough nut. The Dodgers seem to have that swagger and confidence like all is going right and this is their year but I think this series goes six or seven games. And Larry King is still alive! Or least someone is carrying his body to the games. Who knew?

Without Verlander winning tonight, this series is probably over. Even if the Astros win, the best they’ll have is a fighting chance. It’s hard to see LA losing this series.

That was awesome, the corpse of Larry King sitting there next to Mary Hart with his long sleeve shirt on while it was 1000 degrees in LA last night.

Boy was that crowd into the game, they went nuts on both Dodger home runs; that first one was an absolute bomb, that thing either landed in the Pacific Ocean, Oregon, Arizona or Mexico depending on which direction the stadium sits.

This Dodger team is very easy to like to be frank, not to mention the manager Dave Roberts is responsible for the biggest post season moment in Red Sox history, his steal off of fruitbat in the bottom of the ninth in game four of the ALCS in 2004, the play that started the greatest comeback in MLB playoff history...............................
