2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

Torre has admitted what everyone in DC already knew, that the umps blew the dead-ball call (the lack thereof) in the crucial 5th inning of Game 5 between the Nats and Cubs. If the call is made correctly, the Nats end the inning trailing 5-4, instead of 7-4, and the whole complexion of the game is different. Thanks a lot for the admission, MLB. It is worthless at this point. -- Al

Apparently Farrell was here today and reports say Girardi is not on the Nats list for manager (because the Lerner's are allergic to paying big bucks for managers). -- Al

Why in god's name would the Yankees get rid of Girardi, he did a fantastic job! Cashman has been doing so well lately with the draft and trades, I finally started to think he knew what he was doing. This changes my opinion on that subject more than a little.

Unless Cashman hires Tito Francona, I can't imagine who he plans to hire of Girardi's stature as a manager.:redface2:

I read that there was some speculation about Don Mattingly coming in but that rumor seems to have been squashed. -- Al

I don’t think he’s looking to hire that kind of person. The trend is analytics and following what the stats say. Plus, they want someone who they think is better with younger players. Guys like Girardi, Dusty and Scioscia are old school.

The Dodgers are really up against it now. I can't see them coming back from 1-3 if they lose tonight. Too bad a good series was marred with a very ugly racial incident last night by one of the Astros. Unbelievable in this day and age. He issued the standard apology that he didn't intend any disrespect when he slanted his eyes and used a derogatory word for Asians after hitting a homer off a Japanese pitcher. Right. MLB will issue the obligatory fine which has no impact on a guy who makes millions.

Game 4 has been another barn-burner, excellent pitching and a clutch hit or two. Hard to believe the Astros only had one hit and managed to make it stand up through 8. Ended up with 2 hits, both solo Hr's, for all the good it did them. Astros bullpen meltdown means we will see at least a 6 game series. Advantage goes back to the Dodgers with Kershaw scheduled for Game 5. -- Al

Except for the meltdown in game 2, the Dodgers bullpen has been generally as advertised and the Astros pen has been effective.

However, two points: Dodgers have to be slightly concerned about Jansen (I doubt he can pull off a six out save) and Hinch’s distrust of his pen made him over rely on Peacock in game 3 to their detriment tonight. He should be available tomorrow but if they need him in a big way in game 6, he won’t be available in game 7 (and I believe this WS will go the full seven) and they will have to rely on this shaky pen to win their first WS. Could be a daunting proposition.

Pretty good day for LA. The Dodgers get a huge WS win, USC gets a huge PAC win, and the Kings score a miracle goal with 0.4 seconds left in OT to beat the Bruins.

The Nats have apparently hired Dave Martinez as their new manager but no official announcement will be made until after the series. Martinez has been the front-runner for the job since the day Dusty got canned. -- Al

Going to find out how deep the Astros can reach. To come back and tie the game against the best pitcher in MLB, and then watch the pen throw it away the very next inning can be a real killer to the spirit. Astros have real bullpen problems. -- Al

Well, I guess Altuve answered that question. We have another barn burner. This is fun to watch, but I doubt the pitchers for either team think so.:rolleyes2: -- Al

What I can’t believe is you’ve got an umpire giving these pitchers several inches off the plate on both sides, with Kershaw and Keuchel starting, two of the best pitchers in baseball and both teams have given up 7 runs each!

This back and forth, whatever you can do, I can do better, is really unbelievable. Whichever team finds a pitcher who can stop the bleeding for even one inning is going to win., and so far it ain't the Dodgers. Whew, what a game. Now to see what the Dodgers are made of. -- Al

I feel bad for Brandon Morrow. How bad a night do you have to be having to give up 4 hits and 4 runs on 6 total pitches? This game sure degenerated from what should have been a pitcher's duel into a Home Run Derby. And here was I, thinking this game was over when Kershaw had a 4-0 lead. Silly rabbit... - Al

The pitching (or lack thereof) is verging on the ridiculous. It’s like watching one of those celebrity softball games.
