2018 Baseball season (1 Viewer)

O's lost to the Jays 5-0 tonight, a significant loss for 2 reasons. The shutout is the 15th time the O's have been shutout this season, tying the franchise record for shutout losses and the loss itself was #107 on the season, tying the franchise record for most losses since the team moved to Baltimore. With 12 games left, all the O's have to do to avoid setting the franchise record for losses thus earning the title of Worst O's Team Ever, is to go 12-0. Seems we will have a new record to 'celebrate' in Baltimore very soon. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Wow...15 shutouts!!!!! Unreal, hard to believe it was just a few short years ago the O's were murderer's row hitting HR's and scoring runs like crazy, now it feels like decades ago, well lets just get this next loss over with so there will be a new sports question in the next Trivial Pursuit board game.

Here's a Trivial Pursuit question: The current Baltimore Orioles franchise is actually 117 years old. It started as the Milwaukee Brewers in 1901...moved to St. Louis in 1902, becoming the Browns...moved to Baltimore in 1954, becoming the Orioles. The record for worst team in FRANCHISE history belongs to the 1939 St. Louis Browns with a 43-111 record and a .279 winning %. The 2018 O's are currently 43-107 (.287 win %). The next 12 games will determine the answer to the question "which team is the worst in FRANCHISE history?', as I believe the 2018 O's have a lock on 'worst Baltimore team ever' (assuming 1 more loss in the final 12 games). Stay tuned for the answer to this Trivial Pursuit question...The worst team in Baltimore Orioles FRANCHISE history is...? -- Al

And the answer to the Trivial Pursuit question, Part A, 'Who is the worst team in Baltimore Orioles history since the move to Baltimore?' is... The 2018 Orioles, who lost their 108th game on 9/18/18. Stay tuned for the answer to Part B later this week. -- Al

Nats beat the Marlins 4-2 tonight in a game notable only because Harper was 0-0 with 5 walks, giving him 123 walks on the season, 1 short of his career high of 124 in his MVP year of 2015. Also, Greg Holland turned in another sterling performance. He came over from the Cards with a 7.92 ERA and was in the midst of a miserable season. In his 21 games with the Nats, he has allowed 2 runs in 18.1 innings (an 0.98 ERA) on only 8 hits while striking out 23. He is 2-0, with 3 saves and 5 holds with the Nats. He and Doolittle have been about the only bright spots in the pen. Change of scenery, as seen before, can make a big difference. Don't know what other explanation there can be as Holland went from one NL team to another, facing the same batters, but with totally opposite results. -- Al

A ball game with the family. It doesn't get any better than that.:salute:: -- Al

From ESPN, Sept. 20 is an interesting date in MLB history...there have been 6 no-hitters thrown on this date, in 1886, 1902, 1907, 1908, 1958, and 1969. Grover Cleveland Alexander won his 300th game on 9/20/24...Mickey Mantle hit Hr #536, his last, on 9/20/68...Mickey Morandini pulled off an unassisted triple play on 9/20/92 and for O's fans everywhere, Cal Ripken's consecutive game iron man streak ended at 2632 games on 9/20/98. -- Al

Al:

That is an interesting piece of trivia!

Sounds like you had a great time Mike :smile2: Good luck in the playoffs.

Brad...
it was fun...
seeing the family and going to the game...
it was the only game they won in this series against Seattle...

I wanted to see Cole pitch...
as he was scheduled...
but at the last minute Hinch pulled him from the rotation...
to give him some extra rest...
and put in rookie Josh James...

still they won...
so I can't complain...

it was "dollar dog night"...
I ate one...
those things are nasty!

The dollar dog night reminds me of the time when I was in law school and we went to Fenway, hoping to see Carl Yastrzemski get his 3,000 hit. I had about six or seven of those Fenway Franks. God, was I sick the next day. Since then, I’ve never been able to safely eat more than one hot dog at a sitting.

6 or 7 of these could have been fatal...

they put a limit of 4 to a customer...

that might be a mandatory FDA stipulation instead of a club concession policy...^&grin...^&grin...^&grin...

they may have a contract with the Nolan Ryan Beef company on purchasing them...

One by one my hopes for the Giants' season have faded. They won't win the World Series, they won't make the playoffs and they won't finish at .500 or better.

At least they will not finish in last place and at least the Dodgers will not win the World Series.

It was a lesson learned the hard way. When I go to the ballpark now, I usually have a Premio Sausage, a beer and maybe a pretzel.

Are you going to try to get tix to any of the playoff games?

Blast, that sounds like me with my hopes for the Nats. I do still hope for a .500 or better finish but I wouldn't bet the farm on that one either as they are dead even with 8 games left. The inconsistency they have exhibited all season long stills dogs them down to the finish line. A VERY frustrating year. -- Al

What makes you think the Dodgers won't win the WS. They're leading their division by a game and the NL is wide open. They seem to have as good a chance as anyone in the NL to get to the World Series. I would rate them and the Cubs as favorites to get there, although neither team is assured at this point of making the playoffs; that's how tight the National League is.

I doubt it...
I know nothing compares to the excitement of watching a game live...
surrounded by enthusiastic like minded fans...
you can't duplicate that at home...
but I really like watching the game on tv better...
the replays...the close ups...the commentary...comfortable seating...etc...
I especially enjoy the tv view of the pitch to the plate...
I have really learned to appreciate the importance of every individual pitch...
and I won't miss the hot dogs...
that's for sure...

Al...
hahaha....
I'm a lazy bastage...
getting lazier as I get older...
to drive to the stadium from my home is an hour plus each way...
driving home in the dark...
my eyes aren't what they used to be...
$20 parking...
$60 for a ticket...my sister's treat...
very good seats...2nd level over 1st base...
see photo...
picture was taken 30 minutes prior to game so lots of empty seats...
I bought dinner for 4...$130 w/tip...
bought a hat...only $25 which was actually a very good price...
gas...time...walking for miles...
and even though we had very good seats...
I couldn't call a ball from a strike from where we sat...
I prefer tv too...
as a younger man...
I wanted to lots of runs scored...
final score 100 to 99...
now...I appreciate how critical every single pitch is...
that is the art of the game to me...
I represented as much as possible...
I wore an Altuve jersey (with a Johnny Cash t-shirt underneath...^&grin)...and an Astro's hat...
I cheered when the Astro's made good plays...still...give me the high definition version on tv anytime...
