Joe West has won his defamation suit against former catcher Paul LoDuca for stating in a podcast that West took bribes. He was awarded $500,000. Now, we all agree that West is terrible but what LoDuca said went beyond all bounds, especially since it wasn’t true. West had previously settled with the company airing the podcast. When reached for comment, LoDuca hung up the phone.

Best of luck to Cowboy Joe collecting that.

From what I understand, it's a default judgement, which are vacated within a year if the defendant shows up and wasn't actually served.

West tried to serve LoDuca in NY and was told he doesn't live there, then tried to serve him at Barstool and was told he doesn't work there, so the judge allowed them to serve him by email using his barstool address....................looks like he stopped working there in October of last year.

So, because he never showed up in court, the judge ordered a form of service that LoDuca should be able to show was ineffective.

The judgement would then get vacated and Cowboy Joe starts the whole process over again.

The basis upon which a defendant can move to have a default judgment in NY under the CPLR (Civil Practice Law and Rules) Rule 5015 are limited.

The Red Sox swept the Twins in a double header, weird that they played two 7 inning games...................but I'll take it, winners of 9 in a row, sitting at 9-3 right now................

Nats are now 7-9 on the season and one thing is quite obvious, they will go just as far as their SP takes them. Their offense is real light-weight stuff so far, averaging about 3.5 runs per game, with only 14 Hrs. The Nats have had 3 really bad games where the opposition scored 37 total runs, but in the other 13 games the Nats have only yielded 38. So, big surprise, pitching holds the key. Nats have already been involved in 6 shutouts (3-3) and 6 1-run games (4-2). The making of a long, nail-biting season. -- Al

had to laugh when I stumbled onto this today...

some of you guys know your baseball history...
trivia question...

Him. Eddie Gaedel.

Typical Bill Veeck move.

He had a 2 inch strike zone; notice how the catcher is on his knees and as he catches the ball, his eyes are closed.

As a kid, I wanted to be a catcher, but I'm a lefty, so no go...........................I was a goalie in hockey, but my catching glove was on my left hand, it felt natural, but I could barely catch a baseball in my left hand, really weird.

Make that 7 shutouts (3-4) in 17 games as deGrom beat our butts 6-0 last night. Mets scored a season worth of runs for deGrom and he was all but untouchable. -- Al

Nats offense is putrid. Shutout again today, 4-0 by the Mets. Nats are now 3-5 in shutouts, just 19 games into the season. They have hit only 14 Hr's while giving up 27. I don't think this is what Nats fans had in mind, so far.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It’s early and only two teams are at 500 or better. The East looks to be competitive.

Seem to be a lot of teams underperforming across MLB to this point. The NL East is going to be a season long cannibalistic feeding frenzy. -- Al

I can't help but laugh when ESPN constantly hypes up the Padres and Dodgers "rivalry".

San Diego has been relevant for about 15 minutes and before late last year the Dodgers (and the rest of the NL West) consistently beat the Padres.

LA's true rival is San Francisco.

That rivalry goes back to when both teams played in New York and the hate only grew when they both moved to California in 1958.

Yep. Well remember the intensity of their games in the 60's, when both clubs were stacked with HoFers and plus talent everywhere. No love lost between the teams and what true SF/LA fan can forget the 1965 Marichal/Roseboro incident? Now THAT was a rivalry. -- Al

Al:

The biggest surprise to me is the poor showing by the Yankees.

Their offense is abysmal and excluding Cole so is their pitching.

The O's just dumped the NYY's into last place in the AL East with Matt Harvey pitching 6 innings of 1-run ball in last nights 4-2 O's win. Yanks only had 4 hits. Wonder how long until heads start to roll in NY? -- Al

Who’s head is going to roll? Cashman’s who put this team together? Doubtful. Boone? He didn’t pick the pitchers.

Here are the season averages for the Gashouse Gorillas starting 9 last night;

.143, .167, .169, .183, .192, .213, .239, .253, .257

The entire line up from top to bottom is a tire fire.

Just poking fun at the high expectations. I don't really think NY will hit the panic button this early. Heck, the Nats are in the same boat, last place with underperforming hitters and a riddled pitching staff. Such is baseball. -- Al

I think the Yankees have higher expectations and more pressure to succeed. At least the Nats have a recent title. The Yankees haven’t been to the WS since 2009, something their fans demand every year, and feel they’re entitled to.
