2020-2021 Hot Stove League (2 Viewers)

I know MLB is over loaded with stats but every once in a while one stands out to me.

Jacob DeGrom has 184 career starts and in those starts he has allowed one run or no runs 86 times.

And the bullpen probably blew all of them.

Interesting stat I heard on a game broadcast in reference to DeGrom and the Mets bullpen issues...The Mets have blown games on 31 different occasions when DeGrom left with the lead. That's a lot of lost wins for anyone to absorb. -- Al

Monday was a microcosm of Mets seasons past: deGrom pitches well, Mets eke out one or two runs for him, bullpen and defense give up the lead and deGrom suffers another ND.

Michael Brantley,
missing the last 4 games...
due to recovering from a hand injury from a hit batter pitch...
is finally back in the line up tonight...

More baseball numbers.

San Diego went 8,205 games before their first no-hitter was thrown by San Diego native Joe Musgrove last night.

SD needn't have waited so long. Somewhere in the mists of my memory lays the name Clay Kirby, an SD pitcher that went 8 innings of no-hit ball when he was lifted for a pinch-hitter by the manager. Kirby, if my memory serves, was behind in the game, and the manager was trying to win the game and wasn't concerned with Kirby's possible no-hitter. The manager took a lot of flak for his decision. Seems to me in was circa 1969-70ish. Congratulations to Musgrove and SD but... -- Al

Went and looked Kirby up and it was indeed in 1970. He was lifted for the PH by manager Preston Gomez after 8 innings of no-hit ball against the NY Mets. Of interest, Kirby was from Wash. DC. He went 75-104 with a 3,84 ERA in his career of 8 years. He passed away from a heart attack in 1991 at age 43. Well, at least the SD curse against no-hitters is finally done, even if it went 50 years longer than it needed to. -- Al

Mets "won" their home opener on Thursday when the batter got HBP with the bases loaded on a 2-2 count..........the pitch was a strike and would have ended the inning and the game would have gone to extras...............the batter CLEARLY stuck his elbow out, made no attempt to get out of the way, the Marlins protested, it went to review.

And the call stood.

What a chickenshit load of BS; to their extreme credit, the Mets broadcasting crew was appalled.............that crew is by far the best in MLB, no BS home town bias, especially Ron Darling, he said "Oh, you can't do that, that's coming back, he should be out"................kudos to that crew, they are aces.

The Mets player; not so much.

DeGrom must have pissed of the NY Mets baseball gods. He pitched 8 tremendous innings, fanned 14, gave up 1 run on a solo HR, and lost, final being 3-0 Florida, as the Mets bullpen once again failed to do their job by giving up 2 runs in the 9th, putting the game out of reach. DeGrom has now pitched 2 games, given up 1 run in 14 innings, and is 0-1 on the season. He should sue for non-support or maybe demand a trade to another team like, maybe, the Nats. :rolleyes2: -- Al

It’s a complete joke.
Kind of heartbreaking to watch the best pitcher in baseball go out game after game, pitch so well each time, and not be rewarded by the numbers. It happens to all pitchers at some point, but not with the consistency that it happens to deGrom. I know he's the opposition for my team, but it's enough to make one tear out their hair. -- Al

As a baseball fan I try and simply enjoy his skills.

As a sports fan I find it devastating knowing his numbers will always be less than he deserves.

The Red Sox are bludgeoning the LET'S GO O'S!! 8-1 today; if this score holds up, they'll avenge that opening series sweep at the hands of these bozos.

Question for the average MLB fan; QUICK, name one member of the LET'S GO O'S!!...........................

Crickets.

Again, if the score holds up, that's 6 wins in a row since an 0-3 start.

Not bad.

And to think fans around here were torked off when they brought Cora back.

The man can manage, I'll give him that.

Break up the Sawx!

Break up the Sawx!

Not so fast; they were up 10-1, thanks to two of Earl Weaver's favorite, the three run home run, it's 10-7.

I forgot that royal pain in the *** Mancini was back on the LET'S GO O'S!!......................he hit one, something something what's his name hit the other.

I see my Rangers donated a player to your favourite New York team . Made him shave and he looks 10 years younger now . .......... just needs to punch someone now he is a yankee

Bad baseball weekend here in the B/W corridor. Nats got swept in LA (shutout twice) and the O's got swept by Boston (yielding 27 runs). Boo! -- Al

He's on the Yankees now, once they get him on their "training program", he'll be a first ballot lock for the HOF.

I caught about 5 seconds of the Dodgers and Nats game today which brings my total viewing time of baseball this year to about 7 seconds. But man does Dodger stadium look nice on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Even with a handful of fans it's nice to see things returning to normal even in nutty California. And the Dodgers won.
