2020-2021 Hot Stove League (1 Viewer)

I wouldn’t expect him to last. He made the Angels starting staff in 2019 and didn’t last. He didn’t look good in 2020 but I tend to discount everything that happened last year.
Well. his spring numbers aren't brilliant but they're aren't a disaster either. He has a good chance to rebuild his career with the pitching needy O's, if he has anything left. Hope he does and, like you, I discount last year, so maybe he can come back. -- Al

His velocity is up so maybe it’s a harbinger of good things to come from him. Lord, he needs a break.

Matt Barnes of the Red Sox tested positive for COVID, now they are doing contact tracing, this 5 days before the season opener, no clue how many other players were infected at this point.

And this nightmare of a pandemic continues to roll on.

You know things have gone sideways when headlines read that Lindor signed a contract extension for only $341 mil.

Play Ball...maybe. Nats have a player who has tested positive and close contact rules mean that 5 players are out of the Opening Day game. Well, baseball is baseball and it will at least be played, unless it freezes over here in DC as wind chills are supposed to be in the 20's at game time tonight. Good luck to all my fellow fans on the forum and Go Nats, Go O's! -- Al

Well, so much for the Nats v Mets OD game in DC as it has been postponed due to Covid problems. Why not? Murphy is alive and well, it seems. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Looks like real life intervened today. Let’s hope it doesn’t derail what could be a very good Mets season. Last year they were just starting to gather steam and the Marlins came down with Covid. Mets weren’t the same after that.

It was surreal watching Cabrera hit a home run in a snow storm during the Tigers/Indian’s game on opening day.

Harvey looked pretty good for the O's in his first start today. He went 4.2 innings of 2-run ball, leaving with the lead because of pitch count. Had good velocity, hitting 94-95 mph consistently. It was an encouraging start, even though he didn't get credit for the win in the O's 4-2 victory. -- Al

I didn’t see the first three innings but I saw the last two and frankly I don’t think he looked that good. His pitches were all over the place, which probably accounted for his high pitch count, and he seemed to be laboring. Better teams will eat him up.

Ironic, as my judgement was based on the first 3 innings when he was sharp. Ran into trouble in the 4th and 5th but the first 3 were cause for hope. -- Al

In that case, we have to hope that it’s the beginning of something for him, not to mention it’s one start and you have t take the positives out of it.

Consider the competition; the Red Sox, who suck.

Imagine they traded away/failed to sign any of their starting outfielders from the 2018 WS champion team; that outfield was the best Red Sox outfield since 1975; Rice in left, Lynn in Center, Evans in right.

What they are trotting out there now is pathetic.

If the LET'S GO O'S!! could play the Red Sox 162 times, they'd be in business.

That franchise has absolutely owned the Red Sox for the past 10 years.

The Giants and Red Sox were dominant a few years ago.

Their massive payrolls and “win now debt” have come due.

The championship trophies lose their luster as seasons come and go and fans, right or wrong, ask “what have you done for me lately?”

The Red Sox are a big market team, they are acting like they are the small market one.

An interesting article by a local writer here suggests with COVID/lack of crowds, they are laying low on spending and are waiting for this ****show to blow over before they go back to their big spending ways.

So when will that happen based on that theory; 2025?

it's been fun watching the Astros so far...
3-0...with a run differential of +19...
miss seeing Springer and Reddick out there...

fans are booing them hard as they didn't get the opportunity to last year with the no attendance Covid rules...
6 hit batters already...
honestly...I don't think any were intentional...still...
the A's fans cheered on every one...

well alright, alright, alright...lol...that's baseball I guess...
rough crowd...unfortunately...this may be the norm for the rest of the season...

hit Brantley right on his hand the other day...
scary moment...were afraid they broke his hand...
x-rays were negative...just a bruise...so they rested him in game 3 of the series...
he should be playing in today's game...

kind of like watching a "whack a mole" game at the carnival...^&grin

Been working all day, a friend of mine texted me "Watching the Red Sox; they are awful".......................losing to the LET'S GO O'S! 9-3, about to get swept.

Yeah; I really, really do not care.

I really don't.

I've mentioned this to another forum member, but at some point, I'll head to Fenway for a mid week day game and just soak in the atmosphere.

And that will pretty much be that for me as far as MLB 2021.

And NOT to turn this political, but when I heard MLB has pulled the ASG out of Atlanta this year...................yeah; adios MLB.

You are punishing the Braves, their ballpark employees and all the small businesses in the area, not the state of Georgia, not to mention they were planning a tribute to Hank Aaron at the game, who passed away earlier this year.

Sorry; that's a chickenshit, BS move right there, MLB is not some noble group either, they did this thanks to corporate sponsor pressure.

I'm done with the NBA thanks to all their "woke" BS, pretty much done with MLB now too......................................

The NBJC was calling for the PGA Tour to move The Masters out of Georgia too...
long time tradition...played there every year since 1934...
I'm pretty sure it's still going to be held in Augusta again this year...
but may be played elsewhere in the near future...

After watching a few different games so far, the one constant seems to be the fans in the stands not wearing their masks or social distancing.

No they are not, not even close.

They are moving around, bunching up, sitting in groups.

Which is exactly what I thought would happen.
