Beginning to wonder if the Nats are ever going to get their season underway. At least the O's are playing well, though that probably won't last and I must say that what brief look I got of Ohtani last night was impressive. That Hr he hit was massacreeeeeed! -- Al

Ohtani suffered a minor collision at the plate while pitching but I think he’s ok. The bullpen blew the game in the 9th but Jared Walsh (who could be an impact player; he hit 30HRs at Salt Lake in 2019) hit a 3 run HR to win the game in the bottom of the 9th.

Fun with numbers: O's beat Boston 11-3 on Sunday. The O's starting pitcher Bruce Zimmermann, a 26 y.o. lefty appearing in his 3rd MLB game, threw 73 pitches in 6 innings to get the win. The oddity is this: In his first 5 innings yesterday, Zimm threw 50 pitches. The thing is he threw 10 pitches in each of the 5 innings. Really odd. I have never seen, or at least don't remember, anyone throwing the identical number of pitches in more than 2 consecutive innings before. To do it 5 innings in a row is remarkable, almost Twilight Zone stuff. -- Al

There should be a rule that broadcasters (especially those on ESPN) are banned from using the terms “on pace” until at least 20 games into the season.

You’re on pace to making a lot of posts in this thread :wink2:

Trouble on the left-coast as San Diego's Billion Dollar player Fernando Tatis has partially dislocated his left shoulder (on a hard swing). Through 5 games Tatis was batting far below the Mendoza line and had already committed 5 fielding errors. An MRI is due. Holding their breath in SD. -- Al

Al...saw an article on ESPN...your guys start tonight...the Nats got 10 players on IL with the Covid protocol...with 9 of them not having a reason for being on the list???

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...s-put-10-il-ahead-covid-delayed-season-opener

So pro athletes were not all vaccinated then?

I don't get this at all........................................

maybe the protocol that you suffered through applies to them too...
I remember Charles Barkley saying a few months ago...
that pro athletes are privileged...because they pay so much in taxes...
their elite butts should be in the first group for vaccine shots...
I don't think his idea went over too well with us non athletes...

Being vaccinated doesn’t guarantee that you will not get Covid. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, whose technology are similar, provides 90-95% effectiveness, not 100%. The J & J vaccine is 72% effective for mild to severe cases but 85% protective against severe cases. Again, not 100%.

mike, the players on the il are all covid related, whether they actually have symptoms (4 players, according to local reports) or were exposed to it. Don't know why they say non-specified. -- al

hipaa.

So once I'm vaccinated, I don't get my life back then?

I guess I missed that memo.

So I guess wearing masks will be a thing then until what, 2025?

It will never, ever happen, but getting vaccinated should be manditory.

Worldwide.

Again, it will never happen.

But it should.

You still have to be careful. I’ve been fully vaccinated but still follow all precautions.

So we'll all be doing what we did before we got vaccinated.

Sounds wonderful.

You can probably do a little more like go out to eat or a ballgame and get together with friends who have themselves been vaccinated.

Nats finally got the season underway with a 6-5 win over the Braves, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. Scherzer wasn't sharp, yielding 4 solo Hr's, but nothing else, leaving with the score tied and the game handed over to the bullpen which pitched pretty good for a team whose closer and several other players were on the IL. We'll take it. -- Al

Big sigh of relief in SD as it appears Tatis will not need surgery on his shoulder at this time. -- Al
