Cohen seems like a very intelligent guy, he wants to spend if it means he is going to put a winner on the field. At the same time he is cognizant about not spending just to make it look like you are trying to be competitive.

I think the moves that he has made, and not made, will payoff in the long run.

It looks like the 7 inning double headers will be back this season.

Also the extra inning rule.

Baseball officials predict that as soon as spring straining starts there’s going to be multiple cases and it will take weeks to sort out. The number of cases required to shut down a camp isn’t known.

MLB wanted to delay the season but the Union refused. Moreover, the Union refused to join a call with the US government over delaying the season, believing they would receive pressure to delay the season. This all doesn’t bode well for the season or for negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement.

Brad:

Great post.

I read a recent article that stated many MLB players are against anything proposed by the owners, even if it clearly benefits the players, simply because the owners offered it.

I see that Matt Harvey, aka The Dark Knight, has signed a minor league contract with the Orioles. He will have a shot at the starting rotation. I would like to see him succeed, both for his and the O's sake. -- Al

Apparently the San Diego Padres have gone NUTZ. They have signed Tatis to a 14 year deal worth $340 million, the third largest deal in MLB history. It looks like the Padres might be serious about challenging the Dodgers, or at least they are serious about Tatis being the face of the franchise until Doomsday.:rolleyes2: The Padres now have $640 million invested in the left side of their infield.{eek3} -- Al

San Diego has committed over 3/4 of a billion dollars ($784 mil) since 2018 to three players, Hosmer, Machado and Tatis.

Again, I won’t judge them as the Giants won all of their recent titles when they were in the top 3 in payroll.

Maybe it’s the pandemic, but there seems to be little buzz surrounding the start of spring training?

From LA Times (keep in mind these tickets are in the bleachers):

StubHub has listed 20 Dodgers tickets for the April 9 home opener against the Washington Nationals on sale at prices ranging from $1,450 to $9,000.

Does that involving setting next to Vin Scully?

In NY, seating at Mets and Yankees games will, for the near future, be limited to 10% or around 4,000 to 5,000 depending on capacity. Citified holds 41,000 whereas Yankee Stadium holds 54,000.

I’m hoping to go to a game in May.

I know this may sound far fetched, but the thought of attending a baseball game is the epitome of a return to post pandemic normalcy.

The Dodgers look great so far in Spring Training.

Their rotation, if healthy, is going to be unstoppable.

Sure; as long as you wear this get up.........

According to that fountain of positive news Fauci, he's expecting yet another spike and a fourth wave very soon...............I must have missed it; when was the third wave? I'm confused.

But I'll circle back to this idea and see how well it ages..................

Nick Markakis has retired. He was a solid RF for the O's and Braves over a 15 year career. Came to play everyday and totaled almost 2400 hits in a career that put him in the Top 10 all-time of games played in RF. Thanks Nick, as my favorite Oriole for 9 years, it was a pleasure watching you. Enjoy your retirement. -- Al

I’ll be in FL the next two weeks and hope to catch a spring training game. I’d like to catch my favorite team (Mets) but any live baseball will do. I’ll have to check schedules before I leave.

Al:

After reading his stats I’d put him on the all-time underrated team.

He was a clutch hitter whose workman like numbers underscored his talent.

It was difficult to watch Jonny Cueto pitch a dew days for the Giants.

Not just because he struggled, but more importantly because SF owes him $21 mil this season.

It looks like the Yankees are trying to make a trade for Colorado’s shortstop.

The trade involves 7 players and Story.

I don’t recognize any of the other players mentioned.

Glad to see the O's have Matt Harvey to the roster as an SP. Didn't know if he would make it back to the majors but now he has. Hope he does well. -- Al

I wouldn’t expect him to last. He made the Angels starting staff in 2019 and didn’t last. He didn’t look good in 2020 but I tend to discount everything that happened last year.
