We do have a member in Col and WA, so you are not alone! AND we have a good US dealer for unpainted figures. The good news is - painting is still painting regardless of flat or round. Just a few different techniques for flats. You have SCAMMS and Tulsa close by -so that's a start. TX is also a hotbed of painting activity.

I prefer to think of us as a vanguard of the elite!

Thank you for your support PJ, I'll take you up on yopur offer if I ever head east. I have seriously thought of joining BFFS and I may yet do it. haven't seen any threads like this over there, not much posting in general, but it's probably worthwhile.Too be honest one of the reasons I like flats is it's a bit obscure, I'm not much for crowds and bandwagon jumping, my hobbies are for my pleasure, no other reason.

Ray, it's pretty clear from the pictures that you are enjoying yourself! That ALL that is important.

Love the new pictures. When properly displayed, our flats really do come alive.

The thing that bugs me most now is the lighting, everything has that pale yellow incandescent pall. I have to adjust the photo color heavily to even get it to look somewhat acceptable. I'll look into some photo lighting shortly.

You should be able to adjust the lighting color inside your camera. Play with the setting until it looks like daylight.

Actually the warm lighting does not detract too much from the picture quality. All pictures taken at sunset!!

The last 2 years I've read and at times posted on the BFFS site. This year I finally decided to join, as I have had great luck with responses to my posted questions. I've found the forum members to be extremely helpful. Through the generous offer of a German forum member, I was able to place an order for some exceptional flats from Wunsch. The Taylor book is one I've been casually looking for since I first heard about it a 1/2 year ago, without seeing it in person I was a little hesitant to pay in excess of $100, I don't even know how many pages it has?
So Russ, you going to show us some of your collection? I'm always interested in what others are collecting and doing.

Hi Russ, glad to meet another BFFS member here!

The Mike Taylor book is the "bible" on flat painting, and if you have one you're lucky. Mine's very well-worn and I constantly use it as a reference along with Greg DiFranco's articles. Put the book on your list and you will find it eventually. The book has been out of print in English for at least 10 years - some copies in German are available. Mike has been asked numerous times to have the book reprinted in English; but he says he cannot control that - it's the publisher's call. So, for now, you'll find it in used book stores and you'll pay more for it than you might want. It's worth $100+ - to me. The one at the Long Island Show in November sold for $150. I've sent Ray some of Greg's articles.

The Taylor book has 127 pages and is loaded with color pictures. Published in 1995 it was priced at 20 Pounds, I think I paid just under $30.
Wunsch owns the fantastic molds made by Frauendorf. The figures are fantastic. I bought about 100 figures for my Leipzig project. I'm painting up a representative force of Prussian, Russian, Austrian and the French+Allies for wargaming purposes. To date I've painted just a handful. They are the first flats I've ever painted, I'm fairly pleased with the results.
The Wunsch website is www.zinnfiguren-wuensch.de Unfortunately they do not take PayPal, so I had to pay for an Foreign Bankdraft. This is a great downside for many flats buyers........the cost of excuting the transaction is expensive.

Just kidding about the arm twisting, I hope you'll show us your progress in the Leipzig project. I will keep searching for the book, hopefully i can find one at reasonable costs. I understand your pain regarding transaction costs, there are many occasions where I simply will not consider it due to difficulty and expense of a transaction, it's really poor business practices that hurt the vendor as much as the customer.

russ, thank for the tip. PJ never knew my camera had internal options to compinsate for lighting, think they look much better though I need to adjust the lighting.

Thanks guys, not to stray too far afield buy over the years I've been lucky enough to pick up some prints by the famous french artist Hourtoulle? there about 8-1/2" by 10-1/2" and they have a unique(for lack of a better term) watercolor look to them, I really love the few I have.
