A Work in Progress (1 Viewer)

My third Luftwaffe bomber crew member is finished. This figure is made by Aerobonus but the arms used are from a Black Dog kit. Dissolved putty along with filing and sanding worked amazing well on positioning the arms. Using modeling clay, I had to create and reshape the kapok life vest collar in order to tilt the head back. I also widened the stance a bit in an attempt to change-up the poses of the four flight crew. One more crew member to go and then back to work on the aircraft hanger facade.

I'm reviving this old thread with an update. I know it's been a long time but sometimes life gets in the way.

I was not happy with the original uniform color and lack of details, so I went back and repainted each figure. I also had to brush up on my face painting skills and overall, I am happy with the end results. They won't win any awards, but I am pleased with them.

I am currently working on the final piece (a rather large piece) for this diorama and I hope to have it completed in the coming weeks.

I know this thread is in the wrong section and I apologize for this. I contacted Julie and asked her to move to the correct section, but she had no issue with it staying here.

Side walls are complete.

Dome to the hanger facade almost complete. It's painted and weathered.....now waiting on a delivery of clear styrene sheets for windows. Once the windows are installed, a little more weathering will be applied and it's on to the next step.

This is fantastic work throughout of a very interesting structural design. The dome section is amazing. The cuts are so meticulously clean and rods are perfectly spaced! I love the stucco section- the way the texture is scaled & painted and how the weathering is just right. The brick work is so precise and beautifully painted as well as the doors and rails. You have serious skills and patience. I enjoyed your figure modification work very much too- wonderful attention to detail. Thanks for sharing, great thread.

Impressive! ^&cool

Thank you, gents! I appreciate your positive comments and I'll post more pics as I move along.

Work is coming along and I'm happy with my design and engineering. Dome now has "glass" and weathering and is attached to the main part of the facade (Doors and sidewalls). Still work to do on the dome and once everything is added, it will tie everything together nicely.

To give the appearance you are looking into the interior of the hanger, I printed pictures of the actual hanger that is represented in my facade and glued them to foamboard. While not perfect, I think the effect I am looking for will be achieved.

Thank you, Matt. I started this project long ago but I'm excited and determined to get it done.

Thank you, Louis. I must admit, I got the idea of the printed pictures from Andy. It was his brilliance....not mine. ^&grin

Mark,

It looks amazing! :salute:: Just tremendous work!^&cool^&cool

Hello Louis, I apologize for using The Forum to try to reach You. From a previous post I learned that Your Uncle Joe was a crew member with My Wife’s Uncle aboard B-17 Rikki Tiki Tavi. And that You have a picture of the plane. Would like to get a copy of that Or if you could steer Me to someone who could get Me a copy somehow that I could then share with others whose relatives were crew members also. It would be so nice to get that to them for the 80th Anniversary of the loss of most of the crew on that day back in 1944, and further honor those Heroes! Would much appreciate anything You could do! Thank You, Jerry Anderson, jerryanderson1949@gmail.com

Jerry,

Here is the only photo I have, it was sent to me by the folks keeping the museum at Snetterton Heath:
