Accurate (2 Viewers)

Okay, bad choice of words, I should have said how many boxes did it take to find all those guys standing still?

That is always my biggest complaint about sets. Lots of useless figures and a few good ones. Manufacturers trick I know. Still is rather poopy though:(

I don't mind too many bad poses as long as long as they are convertible, for example the Boonesboro pioneers had a number of do nothing poses, but they weren't so bad that I couldn't use their legs, arms or heads for conversions, the exception being the alleged Daniel Boone pose, couldn't find anything to do with him because he was basically standing at attention. Yeah, I could even use the turkey guy.

I think it's more a factor of trying to produce a variety of poses in one set - say of 8 poses... so everyone has a couple of poses they like. I tend to prefer action poses: firing, charging, hand to hand fighting, etc. Other guys tend to like massive marching formations and standing at attention.. while others like lots of wounded / dead guys. You put a couple of firing guys a charging guy, a hand-to-hand fighting pose, a couple of marchers, a wounded guy and a guy standing around.. there's your 8 poses. To be honest, in specific cases I like marchers and standing guys more than I used to. For my Barzso castle I could really use more knights standing on guard, walking etc. And I love seeing about 2 dozen pikemen marching in formation.. and I could use more running guys... The Marx 60mm recasts are helping with this quite a bit.

the good thing about the accurate revwar (british) sets is you can realy build a good size army even if you take out the officers and drummers that still gives you a box of 16 figs and they are rather cheap anyway
and if you are lucky you might get the biteing the cartridge pose
what ashame that pose was replaced :(

Well, I will never understand why Marx had to give us two different poses of the guy carrying a dead bird, wasn't one enough? Then they give us a whole set of Marines without one firing pose.

Hi
the Accurate figures were sculpted by Fellow Brit Bill Farmer in the late 1980's and are full of action unlike many other makes which can be very static looking.
They are not always correct with all the details, but this can be overlooked by most collectors/wargamers and they look great once painted.
I cannot understand why most American collectors dont paint their figures. I have to paint all mine out of habit.
Bill Farmer sculpted the AWI figures too and he also prepared masters for Accurate of British and Zulu Warriors at Rorkes Drift, but these never went into production. I think that Accurate were then aquired by Imex who expanded the ACW range.
Bill also sculpted all the Matchbox figures in the late 1970's. He has also sculpted some of the A CALL TO ARMS sets (British Grenadiers 1776, British Guards Waterloo and British Light Infantry Waterloo).
keep collecting

Bill Farmers sculpting is full of errors, as is his uniform detail.
He did not make all the Matchbox sets - Ron Cameron did the Aussies and Japs.

Hi

Bills figures are nostalgic - and they were one of the few sets of 1/32nd available in the 1980's when all the others had lost interest in producing this size of figure. It kept the hobby going before the recent expansion so we have to be thankful. If you dont like the inaccuracies then cut off the offending bits and superglue on suitable pieces from the spares box

Sorry, but to get rid of the inaccuraties on the Call to Arms 1815 British Light Infantry you would have to remove the plumes, remove the shakos, remove the ammo pouch, transfer the water bottle to the correct size, alter the bayonet hanger, carve off the chin straps and change the buttons on the gaiters around...so I don't think that you would have much of a figure left after that

Hi

did you used to write articles for Plastic Warrior Magazine as I remeber Bill Farmer being criticised unfairly years ago?

Anyhow we all have our opinion and we are all different. If you want to see some decent figures then check out the new 24 x new Napoleonic French Light Infantry by hat.

WOW!!! Talk about picky!:p Whats wrong with the shako other then the chin straps??? These are meant to be light brigade troops not light companies, these could be used with these shakos for 51st,52nd or even 71st highland if you paint on some highland diceing around the shako.
The canteen size is alright other then being on the wrong side.
Mold limitaions on plastic figures can make sculpters change a few things for the worst and limit the pose options, as far as the gaitors go the pants cover over them and you can hardly even see them. The ammo pouch looks good enough to me and to try and alter the bayonet is just getting supper picky to me. Sounds like you need to spend some extra and buy metal figures because I don,t know of any napoleonic plastics with the level of detail your looking for??? If you find any please let me know!
It would be nice to see some better sculpted more researched plastic napoleonics but there just not available.
The blackcat russians and italeri figures are about the best of whats available out there.

Hi Tim

please look at the hat website for the 4 new sets of French Light Infantry 1/32nd 1807-1812 which will be on release soon. I have seen them in the flesh and they are absolutely fantastic. hat hope to release more Napoleonics to the same high standard and they should be popular with us all. We were crying out for these types of figures for many years. Even the most critical will find them 1st class figures.

Have you seen the REPLICANTS Napoleonic figures?
My final comment on the Call to Arms Brits is that the shako is too tall and the plume is the wrong shape. With all the reference material available to designers today there is no real excuse for all the mistakes found in this set.

Never written for PW, I am a subscriber ( as well as the other figure magazines) and considered the critical comments on this set to be spot on.

Hi
yes I did subscribe to PW for many years.
Replicants are great figures - I am painting some now

I,m not that crazy for the replicants figures because of the amount on flash on the figures. Resin figures don,t seam to mould well and replicants like A call to arms figures don,t give you enough figures to work with, two or 3 poses don,t go a long way in making a diorama. The replicants austrian currassier is SAD!!! looking. Did he steal that horse from a petting zoo pony ride???:p
You guys should check out the Blackcat miniatures figures. the plastic russians are great with loads of conversion possibities and the metal kits are great also and at a great price also for metal kits and paint up very well to match up with figures like britains and frontline ect.
The metal kits are also very conversion frendly, I,ve converted a lot of them maybe close to a hundred or more already?
I just finnished painting up 40-50 of these with about half of them conversions and have about a dozen or so still on the paint table.
I,ll post some pictures of these in the next couple of days so you guys can check them out.
They cost a bit more then plastics but the quality is much better and if you catch his ebay site and buy a few you can get them for about $5-6 bucks each at times.
He now has prussians and long coat french conversions he did now also and is working on converting his Russian artillary into Prussian artillary.
Check them out! Here,s a link to some of the conversions I did with them and also some shots of Harolds(Blackcat miniatures) all painted up by Harold himself a couple of pages in.

Nothing wrong with ACTA and at about $10 bucks a box for 16 figures.
I can live with a couple of little faults.
Fish i agree it does not get much better then blackcat for Napoleonics.
(for the do-it your self collectors)
