Another day of rain here . . . giving me an opportunity and time to research possible log houses in Gettysburg during the battle. Found two possibilities; the Spangler farmhouse (part log and part stone), and the Daniel Klingel farmhouse on Emmitsburg Road. Soldiers at the time of the battle described it as a large log house. Further research found that the Klingel home has been recently restored by the Park Service to its original log appearance during the battle in 1863. The Park Service has removed the board siding which had been placed over the logs sometime after the war and restored the original logs underneath. By arranging my farmhouse and smokehouse in such a way that they appear to be one structure, makes a reasonable replication of the Klingel house at the time of the battle . . . .

A section of Lt. Francis Seeley's Battery of six Napoleon 12-pounders (Battery K, 4th U.S. Artillery) assigned to Maj Gen Humphries Division of the Union Third Corps, takes up positions along the Emmitsburg Road in front of and to the left of the Klingel house and prepare to fire upon the advancing Confederates of Brig Gen Cadmus Wilcox's Alabama Brigade. Supporting the battery are the infantry regiments of Brig Gen Carr's brigade.
