I just recently added K&C set# DD 068 US Army Ambulance Jeep to my small diorama of Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. When I first set up this diorama on a 39 inch round table in 2009 I was trying to get mainly US Army 1st Division troops. I have read that a regiment of the 9th US Army Infantry Division was on the right side of the 1st US Army Division on D-Day. The Army medics of set DD 068 are from the 9th US Army Infantry Division I believe. But, as I was trying to set up a diorama showing the first wave coming on to the beach and up to the German defences I sort of thought that there may not have been a ambulance jeep coming in on the first wave or two. But as this set DD 068 is about to be retired and I do not know when or what kind of new K&C D-Day sets will be coming out I decided to get this set while I still could. Lastly, perhaps there could have been an ambulance jeep coming ashore in the first wave? Any comments?

See just two photos below showing an overall view of the diorama & one of the new Ambulance Jeep.

Very nice dio and setup. I don't know if any jeeps came in on the first few waves on D-Day - probably not. But the ambulance jeep IMO is a good model and one I enjoy having.

Nice dio . Brilliant idea to use a round table top.(360° view)
Me too, I recently bought the ambulance jeep. My dealer had 2 left in stock. Glad I did . Will be worth a lot of money in the futur.
As far as D-day is concerned, I have to disappoint you. No jeeps in the first wave. Only foot soldiers and tanks fitted with wading equipment. Only medics on foot were part of the 1st wave .Later ,once they went inland the jeeps appeared.

Better to display the jeep rather than pack it away in its box because of its presence
in the diorama. It looks fine......... ^&grin

1) Yes, the jeeps came later, but it still looks good. The photos of Omaha Beach show a lot of wrecked vehicles of all types, plus there were several waves that landed almost on top of each other as the first troops often couldn't get off the beach.

2) It wasn't the 9th Infantry Div that landed with the 1st Division, it was the 29th Infantry Division. The 29th's troops were among those decimated or almost completely wiped out. The 29th was the Blue and Gray Division, with their patch being the yin and yang of blue and gray. The unit was a National Guard outfit that came from areas that stradd;ed the Mason-Dixon Line in the eastern US.

Dear "Guy":

Thanks for all your comments. I know there were some tanks that were in the very first wave to help the infantry although most were sunk before getting to the shore or else got knocked out soon after getting to the shoreline as they were a primary target of the Germans. I am sure you are correct about the jeeps in the first wave or even some waves after that. Perhaps I could say that this diorama represents a more or less late morning D-Day attack against one of the last bunkers on a bluff that was not captured just yet. The bunker in the diorama is well damaged with a wounded German officer to boot & thus could perhaps represent one of the last bunch of bunkers to be captured. Anyway, that is now my story & I am sticking with it, ha, ha. Note photo of the German bunker below. "Iron Brigade"

Dear Gary B.:

Oops! Thank you for the correction! Yes, it was the 116th US Army Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division that came in with the US Army 1st Infantry Division in the early morning of D-Day, June 6, 1944. The US Army Ambublance Jeep set# DD 068 by K&C represents the 29th US Army Infantry Division.

Thanks again, "Iron Brigade" / Gary M.
