AE03 Ancient Egypt Chariots on Ebay... (1 Viewer)

My ex-girlfriend has this set along with a few of the other early K&C Egyptian pieces. From time to time I think about calling her to see if she wants to sell them to me but then I remember that she did punch me in the face (literally) before we broke up and I moved out of the house we shared.

The chariot is a classic beauty but not sure if it's worth potential bodily harm, lol
Did she punch you for trying to take her chariot?

The second one is a steal, who cares about the box on this one!

Tom...

I have seen them go on Ebay for almost $1,100 in the past...

the last one I saw...
right before the Texas Toy Soldier Show...
was a "buy it now" format...
brand new...
mint in box...
in the US...
for $145 and $4 shipping...
it lasted only a few minutes before it was scooped up...

for real...$4 shipping...hahaha...wish I had seen it first...

Joe:

Thanks, I needed a laugh. No, the punch was caused by another woman and and no, it was not Cleopatra!

It was interesting that my ex even collected the Egyptian series. I guess it shows the power of the non-combat series and their appeal to a broad base of collectors.

Jason,

Haha! You foresaw my next question! lol

I'm happy you got a little chuckle out of that. :smile2: I agree, K & C does a very good job reaching a wide variety of collectors. It's a plan that is unique to them and appears to continue to do quite well.

Be cautious friends. Andy recently mentioned a revival of the Ancient Egypt series is in the works. Due to the popularity of the chariot, it wouldn't surprise me to see it reissued. Pure speculation though!

I have had 2 maybe 3 chariots. I don't think I am going to sell this one. I nursed it back from a premature death. They are fragile as all get out. The box offers the best protection and its greatest enemy. Actually not being careful removing said chariot from same said box is the chariots greatest enemy. One needs to be extremely careful before buying any piece on epay. examine pictures closely. Avoid any piece showing stock photos.{sm4}

In my opinion...
this is the best piece K&C ever made...
way ahead of it's time...

if Andy issues a remake...
I think for shipping's sake...
it should be made in modular components...

all the fragile little pieces packed separately and securely in individual foam slots...
the base...wheels...backer...horses...rider...etc...packed separately...
and requiring some assembly from the buyer...

I have owned several of these chariots...
and the most common problem is that the axle gets bent and the wheels come off the base...
which is not an impossible fix...

while that is the most common problem...there are a lot of fragile delicate pieces...

the tassels and bridle...

the plumes on the horse's head...

the weapons in the quiver...

I hope Andy does re-issue it...
but careful thought and attention needs to be planned for shipping it safely...
I think it stands a much greater chance of delivery if the pieces come un-assembled...

this was supposed to say...
spell check has a mind of it's own on corrections sometimes...

Having discussed this piece with Andy personally many moons ago regarding my fondness for the piece, the subject of its fragility came up. I believe the only way this is re released is that it would be a brand new sculpt and a new engineered design. A fully complete undamaged and non rebuild version of this is quite rare. They had numerous faults but were absolutely awesome pieces. The box was its best protection, however the weight of the chariot during shipping and the support the axle gave were at odds so to speak!

SO - if you find an original and you are a fan, and it is a price you are willing to pay, I would not hesitate.

Many thanks Tom and to all of you who have contributed to this interesting little discussion...
When we produce our next Egyptian Chariot it will be much improved and much sturdier than 'Edition No.1'...
K&C and yours truly have learned a lot of lessons since then and will be applying many of them to 'Edition No.2.'
Best wishes and happy collecting!
Andy.

And there you have it , thanks Andy!! It is truly still one of my favorite pieces and I am sure a new one will be just as superb. Now, if I could only convince you to redo a certain Elephant......................or a new Elephant and a Pirate ship...........................I finally got Sherlock Holmes, figure if I bug you long enough anything is possible.

CYA in Chicago!

Tom

I was really close to snapping up the buy it now one at the 350.00 but held off due to the overseas shipping and known fragility of this piece.
Glad I waited now.

Are you it was not for being '***', and you 'milk'ed it, she probably went home and told her mummy. Good job she did not hurt your back or you would have to go to a Cairo-practor. But she would probably say she did not hit you as she was the Queen of Denial! You could always offer to take for something to eat at Pizza Tut in exchange.

Andy...

Del Prado did some interesting stuff on Ancient Egypt...

here are a few ideas...

I would love to see K&C's version of the 4-6 workers hauling bricks on the sled with a driver directing them...
I bet it would be received well by collectors...

I also like the dual lever scaffolds...

Mike I have a few of these too. I don’t think the rail car got made or at least I could never find it?

Tom...

these must have been on a very limited production run...I never see them...

years ago...I saw the Del Prado Pharaoh and His Wife...AEG003D...at a show...and was not overly impressed with it...it seemed crude...especially the sculpts...

I think if K&C made the piece...it might be very impressive...I expect it would be to K&C's standards and would look really good...

especially the workers hauling the sled...
