Hey dudes:

In order to keep up with the Jones'(CapitolRon), I created this AK shelf Dio. Measures 5.5' long by 1' wide and 2" in height. This is the first time I've ever done one of these so I'm by no means an expert. Yes, even I can make one thats how easy they are. Come on, it couldnt be more shocking then if the GOP picked a woman as a vice president. I know, I know no politics. This will eventual reside on a shelf so thats the reason I had to make the most out of a 1' width space.

Homer Simpson: honk, brake, gas - gas, brake, honk.

It might take the Desert fox himself to sort this one out.

Very nice work !!! I think you need alittle better traffic control or put some SAS in the wings waiting to attack !!!

Great pics mate, thats quite a jam you got there!.This is the best way to see the Opel Blitz, looks cool in multiples.Congrats on a great dio.

Rob

Nice dio, The building looks rather interesting, who makes this?

Jeff

Here's another great looking diorama we have been able to see this week. Fantastic collection, I really like the use of the JG Miniature buildings and scenics, especailly how you put to good use the Roman Fort and the Egyptian shelter. Very very nice.

Mike

Wow, McKenna!! KGB must be pretty darn understanding to let you get that many mutiples! 4 Tigers and at least 6 Opal Blitz trucks!

Really great looking Chris. Nice use of a pineapple.

Thanks dudes for all the good comments. The buildings that I used for this were all pre-fabricated store bought. I've got the JG Mini Egypt shelter(JGN25A), Roman Fort(JGM43K) and the three palms are JG(young, middle, old) - I even have a Build-A-Rama dune terrain in there(BAR067). The only one I modified was the Roman fort. I had to pull off the green foilage and scrap off the green weeds that line the bottom. Just "flocked" on some sands in a few spots and tried to make it fit right in.

Yes dudes, the Sara KGB factor. Now all toy soldier collectors know what a sensitive issue "the spouse" is. KGB did enjoy the final product but the process - not so much. I used styrofoam board for the base on this project and if I had to do it over again I would for sure choose a different material. To get the 1' width I had to cut the back edge with a circular saw. Well you guessed it, the entire garage got covered with styrofoam "beads" - like you turned a snowglobe upside down in my garage is really what it looked like. Additionally, using lots of sand for the flocking the base turned the basement into a beach volley ball pit(which I tracked all over the house mind you). Here is some advice:

1. Before you even think about starting this type of "craft" project lay some plastic down.
2. Stay away from the styrofoam board, I'm pretty sure they make a product similar to this that is foam but its not beads(its usually green or blue in color). Make sure you use that instead, it will make your home life a lot easier.

So making one of these is like having a contractor in your house. You hate the process and distruption but man when its done does it look like a sweet improvement.

Super job in that AK Traffic Jam. Sort of looks like a typical day around Boston highways.
Like Rob said, the multiples adds an interesting dimension to the diorama. Wow "6" Opal's and "4" Tanks -- WOW.

The "traffic jam" is a very interesting concept rather. I am definitely going to have to remember that for my effort!

Thanks for sharing!

Wow. With that many Tigers, how did Rommel ever loose Africa? Great dio. Looks like it cost a small fortune.

White polystyrene sure is messy stuff but I usually just cut it with a Stanley knife or whatever they are called in the US, basically its a builders size hobby knife with a retractable blade. I would use the blue or pink hi-density wall insulation foam the hobby experts recommend but can't I get it in Australia as it doesn't get cold enough where I live.

McKenna - WOW !

That is a great display ! 4 TIGERS !

I love the action in the diorama - it really looks cool.

I think I now have to keep up with the McKenna's ;)

Really loved it man - Do more !

Ron

Hey - by the way......

Lets see some closer shots of those other displays in that room - they look very interesting ! :D

Chris that's a great display and clever idea to show many pieces in one scene.
