Andy's Talk at 5th Chicago K&C Dinner (1 Viewer)

Thanks for posting Steve! That's a lot of info., and we really appreciate you taking the time to take notes, and organize it and then present it to us. Kinda makes me feel like I was sitting in on the meeting (except I didn't get a show figure ;)). Did Andy happen to reveal or allude to what the next ancient line would be? I've been dying to know since K & C retired the Romans along w/ their awesome barbarians. I'm hoping and assuming it will be the Greeks, as the Greek were, I'm told, in contention for a fully developed ancient line once before but were bypassed by the Egyptian line in the end (which is also quote nice! I'm either real easy to please or K & C quite simply kicks butt:D!). I'm hoping that the Greek's prior "runner-up status" propels them into the K & C production spotlight someday. I'm also assuming that the new life of Jesus line is not the new extensive ancient line, and that it is more of a "pilot" or "test" sub-line. No complaints if it is the new ancient line because it looks fantastic, and would include more Romans too I'm guessing. Anways, I'm rambling on and on:p........I'm just excited about this wonderful hobby and having so many incredible creations to consider! You gotta love it! :)

I must be in the minority because this is one of my favorite ranges :)

I agree; the IJ figures are among my very favorite K & C soldiers. Whoever sculpted the faces and poses on those particular figures did a tremendous job. For those of you who don't have them, they are really that good. I wish the IJ line had received more support; it's a shame there won't be more additions to the line :(. With that being said, however, I am very thankful for what K & C did produce, and it is a substantial group of soldiers. They are among my most proudly displayed sets :).

Any mention of new Napoleonic era releases?
Andy mentioned last year that it was the next best seller behind WWII.

........................................................................................................ Yes it is, King & Countrys first effort DD07 was fairly rough but is still in high demand by collectors. This example is much improved and I wouldn't be suprised to see another version offered again one day.DD07

Yes, we need one to go with the upcoming US 105mm howitzer!

Hi cfm, i am the one that asked andy about german paras for normandy. He originally thought i meant american paras. After i told him no, that we need falshirmjager to fight the us paras at carentan and st lo he did say no. That he has done enough. Ithink he is making a big mistake as when the dinner was over four seperate people came up to me to tell me that thats what they wanted too. That the other releases just did not go with normandy.i myself bought the first run because they were cool. The first batch of ak paras i also bought. The crete paras i bought for fob and the last batch of mediteraenen paras i skipped. They look great but what would i use them for. We need paras for normandy. If he could make them look as good as the luftwaffe field division ones i am sure that they would be a terrific seller. If anybody feels the way i do let andy know as he does read the forum. Or email helen. Thanks for seeing it my way cyber field marshal

I certainly agree with you..from various point of views the Fallschirmjager actually present on the market (obviously i'm referring only to the K&C ones) are not good for Normandy, they are not good even for the battle that made them famous :Monte Cassino..they were more ragged , more "green", indeed they were called "Green Devils".From the images of the fighting at Cassino and in Normandy one must say that all the uniformity in their uniforms (sorry) was gone..The Paras now available are good for Africa and Italy (Sicily..the famous battle of Primosole Bridge), not certainly for Cassino or Normandy..like the (now) retired Fallschirmjager were good mainly for Crete (not for Eben Emael for example they lack of some particulars, like explosive charges, and look). And if one would be too pedant could ask for Bulge and East. Front Paras in winter gear ...:)Obviously when i write "not good" i'm referring to the historical context not to the manifacture of the figures , that is outstanding.

I find it interesting that all these post which take a whack at Andy about his comments at the Dinner are left up - yet if you oppose those views your post is removed.

No problem - I am sure that this post will come down too

Thanks for the picture of the truck NINJA. I also would like 2 of them. I keep saying to myself ANDY WILL MAKE A NEW VERSION. It is good model would love to have a few.

I bet we see a new version shortly. All the manufacters seem to be reading the forums, and considering the ideas put out here.

I bet we see one with a 50 Cal machine gun turret. How cool would that be!

Again, when Andy says a theme does not sell or is a poor seller, it does not mean the production run does not eventually sell, it just takes too long. Collectors should understand that in past meetings, Andy has explained what he means by "poor sellers." A "good seller" sells most of the inventory within 6 to 8 months while a "poor seller" might take 18 months. The "poor seller" eventually sells most of the production run, but capital and warehouse space is tied up in these slow selling products and K&C prefers to do products that sell relatively more quickly.:)

Steven,
Another great report. You are the Anderson Cooper of the forum!

I would have to agree with Ron. I commented on a post (made by a moderator) which used the argument that having black Zulus (with Redcoats I presumed) in a collection indicated WWII black soldiers would sell. I made the comment that given a choice I thought white soldiers would sell better than black. I would like to emphasis here that in no way was my comment meant to reflect upon the black soldiers from any forces who have fought for their country. It is simply a commercial / collector reality in relation to WWII. Chicago show attendees will have a better idea than me but I am guessing that the number of black collectors as a %age of toy soldier collectors at the show is far less than the population ratio.

My comments were deleted and I would be interested to know by which moderator and for what reason.

Will be interesting to see how quick this post goes and deleted by who.

Donald Trump made an interesting observation once on his TV show. One

team made a product that targeted 10% of the population. When they lost

he said its always wise to target the largest possible audience when

producing a product.

I think that is a very valid business point. And presented in a way to defy

any "politically correct" analyses from the left.:D

First there was only one which was mine and I thought I asked a valid question. Secondly the opposed view was quoting a semi racist remark with political connotations.

The post was pulled as it had been reported as being slighty racist.
