Reminds me how much I like my Light Horse set, this is brilliant also Martyn. Robin.

I painted the ROSE Miniature Heliograph Set for Luiz in Brazil which fits in well with this era, or Sudan.

I also have a set in my collection made by Yeomanry which were Lovat Scouts, but Brian supplied me with slouch hats, so they are now Australian Light Horse, Palestine 1917.

I'm sure there are others around, but they really show the need for communications on the battlefield, and how things have changed!

January 7th 1901 – Kroonstad Remount Depot

Many Indian Army troops were sent to South Africa but not as combat troops, they were used in non-combat operations though working under fire. Apparently due to a tacit agreement between the British and Boers only whites should take part in military operations.

Here are troops from the remount Depot at Kroonstad taking a break, they were allowed weapons for personal protection only.

Yes an interesting backstory.

Back in the days of early Roman Empire it was pretty much a reverse situation with send in the (Non citizen) Auxiliaries first leaving the (Citizen) Legionaries in reserve.

Nicely photographed Martyn, have always liked Mike's "Brew up" figures ... lots of interesting poses.
