Don't hold back Scott, say what you feel.

Worst case scenario, you can always moderate your post with you being a moderator and all.

Moderator on moderator crime so to speak.

Rob, I am pretty sure that short of a another show being scheduled on the same weekend, I will be there in June of 2013.................

This.

I love this forum, I belong to several of them, this one is my favorite.

There are a great bunch of people on here, I consider many of you friends although we've never met in person (and Rob, we WILL meet in person as London is calling).

I love toy soldiers and I love talking about them.

That said, we are all adults here and should be given more credit in that we can discuss something without it digressing into nasty name calling and bickering.

The beauty of forums are they give us a place to go to talk about things; talking among friends on a forum about a tragedy like the events in CT is great therapy for me, several of the forums I belong to had very, very lengthy discussions about what happened and none of them, as in NONE, digressed into nasty name calling, I felt better reading and chiming in, it helped me wrap my head around what happened and reading what others wrote helped me get through this mess.

The whole "It's their forum, you play by their rules" makes no sense to me.

Sorry, this is OUR forum, we the members are what drives the bus.

If we all left and discussed things elsewhere like has been suggested, then there IS no forum.

As Brad said, if in fact this is a TOY SOLDIER forum, then fine; get rid of all the other sub forums then and we'll all hold hands and sing songs and talk about little metal men 24/7/365.

And we'll all be bored to death; variety is the spice of life, is it not?

That's my .02 for what it's worth.

George mate,
You are a pistol.:smile2::smile2: When the going gets tough and the guns are drawn for a nasty debate you can always be relied on to add some common sense and humour.^&grin
Keep up the great work cobber. A Happy Christmas to you and young Chris.
Cheers from the Land Downunder, Howard

As you and I have discussed in person, without humour, we'd all go mad.

My Dad taught me that one, which explains why 90% of the time when you see the two of us in action at a show, we're laughing.

One other benefit of this forum is chatting with people online and then getting to meet them in person, like for example, oh I don't know, lets say you for example..............:wink2:

Merry Christmas to you too, been quite a year here at MMTS...................

I'll echo Howard's words George, you inject humour and wise words into a squabble and say it as it is. Merry Christmas to you and your dad (as well as the rest of your family) and hopefully i'll be able to catchup with you at Chicago next year.

No problem, we'll set you strait.

Very true, I visited San Antonio a few years ago and had a great time, the river walk is awesome as is the rest of the city.

Visited a few other "places" down there too, one was called All Stars, those Texas girls love the Boston accent.....:wink2:

Hope your girlfriend doesn't read the Forum {eek3} ^&grin

Interesting reading this and watching it unfold. I think George's post hits the nail on the head for some of the problems , firstly, though surprised to see a mod self delete in response to some of the comments.

I have to say that when someone posts that its their forum and they make the show etc that's probably a lot of the problems as some seem to think its their forum and should be run in their way. when Mods delete or rules are set by the people who own the site they should apply equally to everyone.

As Andy has mentioned in his blackadder type yuletide greeting!!!LOL to both forums he like I have been moderated sometimes deserved and sometimes not IMO. this forum is not any of the members on here its the Reuss and they set the rules that we have to follow Not, those who through length of time on it or, some form of either self imposed position or belief feel they can negotiate what rules apply to them.

The rules apply to all and regardless of the seemingly importance of the post if it crosses the rules then its right its canned.

just my view from these trenches we hear about

In this specific case, I think the Padre applied his policy consistently. The thread that was closed started as a thread to express our dismay, grief, etc, about the Newtown mass murder, but it was heading into political discussions about gun control and how to treat mentally ill people. Other threads have been closed for the same reason. Seems consistent to me.

Prost!

Well, we all know what Emerson said about consistency :rolleyes2:

In my opinion, they made the wrong decision but there's really not much more I can do about it :rolleyes2:

Yes, we're familiar with his quote, but is it really relevant to this case, Counsellor? And would you be making the same point, and mild insults via literary quotes, and rolling your eyes, if you agreed with Peter's decision?

I think that when people say it's their forum they mean without the people there is no forum which is true.A forum is for a group of people to get together to express their views and opinions,if you can't do that than it is no forum.
Mark

We can pretty much express what we like with the caveat of a mod intervention but, everyone and their proverbial dog knows that Religion and politics are not allowed on this forum. Who decides when it crosses that line are the mods and the owners and, in this case it was one of the owners.

We don't pay anything in monetary terms to use this site if we did then this may have been a different issue. as someone who has contested the consistency of decision making this seems to be consistent its not like it came out of the blue as a shock that the thread was pulled.

Even though I like this forum very much and try to obey the rules I disagree with the restrictions but that is just my opinion.

As author of previous thread I watched all this with interest and was not concerned when it was closed as we'd had our say, of course I knew there was a chance it would drift into causes and cures etc but I did just want a thread where we could our express our condolences sympathy and outrage . I thought the responses quite mild to be honest. I was reading a music forum the other day in which a topic of discussion was the theft (a couple of days back) of Christmas presents for the sick children at Great Ormand St Hospital in London, my god what they were going to do to whoever was responsible if they got hold of them!{eek3} Terms like ' hope he craps broken glass in hell for eternity' were at the milder end of insults!

I've been moderated/infraction-ed several times over the years on here and pretty much deserved them to be honest for getting involved in things I should have walked away from, but I still believe in moderation a great deal. Not only does it weed out the occasional racist/bigoted post but it prevents ongoing feuds ruining the forum for others.

Rob

(As an aside and more about how you can kind of self moderate, a couple of months back I'd got to a point where partly through my fault and partly the others involved I used the latest ' forum technology' on three or four occasions and I have to say the result is quite something. Got to tell you guys it makes a world of difference to your forum enjoyment, I don't have to come across posts of those members I just don't see eye to eye with and in turn I don't post on their threads possibly annoying them, better for me, better for them and better for the forum as a whole).

I believe this thread has probably run its course as most have had their say and the positions are well known.

However, as I said at one point in this thread, I do not, in general, question the policy (although other forums I have participated in have political sections with due warnings when you enter that section). What I do and did question is the application of the policy in the instance of what happened last week because of the heinous nature of the crime. Rules, as I've said before, are meant to be applied judiciously and in this case the application, in my humble opinion, was poor. That is my opinion and others may -- and probably -- will disagree.

The Baron referred to my being a counselor, which I am. One of the things I'm paid to do is question and look at things differently. I've been picked for important projects in my company because I do question and have a long term view. Early in my career I was asked why are we doing things a certain way and my reply was something to the effect that this is the way we've always done it. My boss, who was new at the time, said that's not acceptable and you need to think about things differently, which is what I have done since then. This is not to toot my own horn but to give you my perspective on how I view things in life. Very few things in lifeare black and white but contain many shades of gray.

As George and Mark have indicated this Forum is what we make it: we the members. Other forums have come and gone. I'll bet many of you did not know that Hobby Bunker once had a forum but had few members. The success of this Forum, thanks in no part to the members, has helped lead to the success of Treefrog Treasures. I never purchased anything from Treefrog until one day I talked to Shannon and she told me they had a Forum. Now, they and Minuteman are my principal dealers.

As members I believe we have an obligation to question how things are done. Many have, and in response Shannon and Pete have instituted new features, for which they have and should be commended. I questioned, and will in the future, question things that I don't agree or don't think are right. I realized that the Administrators were not going to change their minds but, similar to when the manager or the coach confronts the referee and gets tossed from the game or the match but hopes that the next time the ref may thing differently, I felt it was important to do so and hope for a different outcome in the future but god forbid a circumstance should ever arise or happen again like it did last week.
