Yo Troopers, been AWOL recently{sm0} trying to get the new house and garden sorted, not easy when it rains nearly everyday:mad:. Anyway guys time for a break, can anyone recommend a good family holiday in Portugal or Spain, bearing in mind this old Trooper is shell shocked know lol so no stairs or nice 10 mile walks lol. Palma Nova in Spain is superb, but now the boss is moaning there is no night entertainment for the kids (how sad) swimming pools, sandy beaches, good restaurants (not enough). My holidays as a kid was a bottle of pop and sandwhiches between our local street gang of 6 and every day in the local park{sm3}. So if anyone knows anywhere worth a look, please lets know guys.
Cheers Bernard.

A choice between Iberia and Germany and you recommend Germany. Well, to each his own^&confuse Of course, you have to wonder why all the Germans come to Spain:wink2:

Haven't been to La Madre Patria in a while but it's going to get hot in Castilla and the South soon so why not head to Northern Spain. Best I can do, unfortunately.

If you have your heart set on Spain, try Barcalona or the Lines of Tores Vedras. But if you want to have a REALY good time, try Provance in France! The Musee d'Emperi, the old castles, Avignon, Arles.....

Barcelona would also be my recommendation. Lots to see, nice beach and public transport is also good. Only stay away from eating at "La Rambla" !!!

Plus, with Barcelona, you're not that far away from the beaches plus there is a nice amusement park at Tibidabo. I have fond memories of Tibidabo when I was a teenager growing up in Barcelona, plus they're home to the best football team in Europe!

Stay at home. Saves a lot of disapointment. You know what you are eating, you can drink the water and you speak the language. Trooper

Unless you venture out to the high street, then the language is anyones guess!

If you really want some rest I would highly recommend the Porto Santo island in Portugal, part of the Madeira islands: great beach and there are hotels which are literally on the beach. Not too hot and fantastic sea water. The best beach in Portugal in my opinion. There are also good restaurants around... Not too sure about discos etc..., I have long forgotten about those...^&grin. Another alternative is the Algarve in Portugal, either some area around the Falésia beach near Albufeira (that's where I am going to in about a month's time:wink2:...) or the Vilamoura marina, these are areas with a lot of night life and entertainment, but very crowded in August. Or in the Algarve the more posh Quinta do Lago (beautiful landscape and beaches, you can use a wooden bridge to go to the beach if you'd like and watch crabbs), top restaurants and disco, pretty steep prices too, you pay for what you get... If you need any more info, just shoot, I can PM you.
Spain=Ibiza...

Cheers,
Paulo

Everybody speaks English in touristic areas in Portugal (and probably everywhere...^&grin). So forget about the rain and come and taste some real food and Summer...^&grin. Just be informed!

Germany is a fabulous place to visit. Many happy summer holidays there!

My uncle is particularly fond of Malaga, Spain so much so he moved there.

End of September, Schaumburg Illinois, lots of toy soldiers there!

Yo Troopers, you "orrible excuse for soldiers", WHAT ARE YOU. lol, thanks guys anyway. Done Vegas its awesome, but not for my lad. Was stationed in Germany (Munster) for two years just loved it, got on great with the locals, especially the girls:rolleyes2:, and as for staying in Leicester for a week{eek3}:tongue:, would not mind Wraith's County great river there for fishing, and Newark is special, biggest Antique Fair in Europe takes three days to get around it. But think I will have a word with Paulo, he is a local lad, and if he puts me on a bum steer, he will be on stable duties for the next 12 months{sm3}{sm4}.
Cheers Guys.
Bernard.
