Anyone watching the Women's World Cup? (1 Viewer)

This was indeed one of the greatest soccer world cup final I ever watched. Japan never gave up and US did win with panache. Kudos to both teams! Final score 5-2.

I wanted to see a rout! :smile2: Congrats to the women's team and Lloyd with the hat trick. :salute:: Hard to believe it's been 16 yrs since the last WC win. Chris

It was a great win. In retrospect the fifth goal may not look key but it stopped any possible momentum by the Japanese. When it was 2 nil, that really opened up the game for the US as the Japanese took some chances that hurt them; they probably panicked.

Going in to the tournament I thought France or Germany were the strongest teams. Seeing them meet in the quarters seemed very strange to me. It's taken many years but the US Woman have climbed the mountain. Congrats to the champs! I enjoyed the whole tournament. Norway was fantastic. England, although ranked #6, were one of the big stories of the WC for me, although that bunker style game they played early on vs France was not a sight to behold. The own goal vs Japan was shocking, but a very difficult ball to play. No one really noted this but the defender was several steps slow out of the midfield and reacted very slowly to Japan's determined run. This put her in a panic sprint and the goalie came out not knowing if her defender would recover on time. It would be nice to see England ride their wave of momentum into the Olympics, but it is my understanding that they will not be one of the participants due to some turmoil with their association. That would be quite a shame if true.

Viewership in the US for Sunday's game was almost 27 million, more than the recent NBA final or the 2014 World Series.
