Are we tired of ACW Ironclads Yet? (2 Viewers)

just testing, does anyone know how to post pictures? i have an album ACW.Ironclads with some pic in it but i cannot get to post them !

Believe it or not , but pictures of your work was posted not long ago. Someone gave us a toy soldier show report. What are these mostly made of, are they one of a kind or do you make them for general sale? I am interested in the Benton....What would the shipping cost be from England to the states? Thanks, Michael

I took these photos last year at a couple of the London shows.

hello the models are made from a blockboard base or other suitable material, the casemates are made up first in plywood and then sheathed in contoured plastic, the decking is usually hardwood planking, the rigging is made up from garden wire stripped of its plastic coating, the funnels are plasticard and the rest is just bits and bobs, i actually make display cabinets and the wood offcuts become the ships ..eventually. each ship is, as in real life a one off, except the city class boats, i build the boats to fill out the table at the london toy soldier show but they seem to have taken over completely, so i do not think i will be taking anymore down there again, the ships sell for around £200.00 despite everyone telling me to ask for more ! but as i build in my spare time i am happy to see them go for that price. uss.benton is quite a heavy boat so with packing included i should imagine the cost of shipping will far exceed the worth of the vessel. i will weigh it and maybe ask a freight company for a quote. i hope this answers everything for you .
kind regards steveemmo

Thanks, just because I can try to build them, does not mean that I have the time or skill to do so..I defer to you on some very nice models...Michael

thank you for your kind comments, but they really are quite easy to build, i had never built one or anything else for that matter before building the first one (which i named Arkansas) a year or so ago, and i will be starting another one (god only knows why) shortly, if you want i will post pics as i go and you can build along side if you like, i am musing over either USS.Essex or ..and i really fancy this one, CSS.Texas, i am certainly not tired of ACW.Ironclads just yet, i have begun 2 other projects too, the sudan boat thing that everyone seems to be going for lately namely the Melik and the British built Ironclad Cerberus, both about 3/4 complete...and both abandoned due to extreme lack of interest.

I vote to finish the Melik....Michael

Steve,

This is fabulous work. I'm blown away, to say the least. As someone else said, "maybe easy for you..." but for us mortals, different story :)
