December 2, 1805, a year to the day after his coronation, the Emperor Napoleon at Austerlitz first wins his most brilliant victory.
In a few hours in an off-season sun, it overcomes two emperors, Alexander 1, Tsar of Russia and Francis II of Habsburg, Emperor of Austria and the holder of the Holy Roman Empire (or emperor of Germany). Austerlitz is named for this Battle of the Three Emperors.
Napoleon is the first part of his triumph liable to luck and a morning fog that hid his movements to the enemy.
