It's been one of those games! How does a team go from 6-132, to setting 561 to win? It has been compelling stuff!

It has certainly been a great fightback. I was lucky enough to be there on Thursday and it was a great day despite England's dominance. It was soured only by the crowd's treatment of Stuart Broad. I can accept a bit of booing as it is great theatre when there are villains and good guys but when a man takes five wickets he is entitled to a better show of appreciation:mad:. The behaviour of 'The Courier Mail' in calling him a cheat is unbelievable. Surely he could take legal action because it is demonstrably untrue. He has showed a lot of character. I see that same wonderful paper which was bagging our guys three days ago is now rerunning interviews with Jeff Thomson making claims that forty years ago people were frightened of him. Nevertheless, some great cricket but you cannot win a five match, 30 day series on Day 3 of the first match.

I wonder if last night when Rob dragged his Union Jack doona over him, turned off his 'The Queen's Golden Jubilee commemorative lamp' after returning his copy of 'Deeds that won the Empire' to the bookshelf, whether he slept soundly after the battering his boys took?{sm4}

Australia has made a perfect start to the Ashes series, thumping England by 381 runs to win the first Ashes Test at the Gabba inside four days.

I have been on the road over the last 3 days so I haven't had a chance to watch the game and when I read about the ordinary start by the Aussie lads on day one, I was thinking "here we go again"! It was a pleasant surprise to see the lads come up triumph and it will give them a huge amount of confidence for the second test.

I agree with you about the Stuart Broad thing Marty and im glad that you had a great day at the cricket while I was sweating it out in the "ye old toy soldier shoppe" setting up dio's!{sm4}

Many congrats to Australia on a fine, convincing victory. Well deserved.:smile2:

As for Stuart Broad, I think he displayed a level of class some folk out there can only dream of. :salute::

The sign of a true fan and of ones true devotion in national sporting support is to stand up and be counted in both loss and defeat. I see some who are crowing now but were MIGHTY quiet at the last Ashes encounter:wink2:

Well said Rob

For the first three days of this Test I had the dubious pleasure of driving shuttle buses (for ticket holders) to get them home after the days play. Each day there was a fairly even mix of 'Yobbo cobbers' and increasingly sunburnt 'Barmy army' almost all legless after a long day in the sun and many trips to the bar. The first day there was a equal amount of good natured of 'Pommy bashing' and 'Cobber bashing'. The second day the 'Cobbers' got louder and more legless and the 'Barmies' tended to get on the same buses (even more sunburnt) by the third day I had no 'Barmies' at all on my bus!. Some of these cricket fans are just loonies! I had five blokes dressed from head to foot in 'Wookie' suites (star wars) in 32 degrees heat! There was blokes in kilts, rabbit suites, leprechauns, a whole mob of 'Richie Benauds', Richard the lion hearts, the best I saw was a group of very attractive medieval '*****es' :wink2: The over all atmosphere was good natured with the usual Aussie/Pommy rivalry, as it should be. And of course the best team won...:wink2:{sm4} Bring on the second test.
Wayne.

Give it a miss you two!.... it's just not cricket.....{sm3}^&grin:wink2:

It was an astonishing turn-around given England's dominance a few months ago. While well deserved, I thought the luck went dominantly England's way and influenced the final scoreline a bit unfairly. This game didn't seem to have a lot of luck one way or the other. Australia just got on a roll. Broad was very good but he was almost on his own. Johnson was even better, though given his inconsistency, we may not see this level of performance again this series.

The two sides seem to genuinely dislike each too.

Well said. Australia totally dominated in the majority of the game I thought and well deserved their victory . The two teams do seem to loathe each other.

To my real Aussie friends on the forum I say well done guys :salute::

Trott is home on stress leave! As a spectator it's easy to forget the total pressure that being out in the middle can bring but you don't expect someone to lose it to this degree. It's a shame for him because Adelaide might've suited him. Mind you Perth is after that....

He is a very good player and there was a hint that it may not be cricket related. It is easy to forget that they have lives away from cricket. I remember when Haddin came home early from the WI with the report indicating 'family issues'. I think most people assumed a marriage breakdown only to find out that his daughter had a life threatening illness.

Begs the question why did he go on tour in the first place,would he have gone home if he made a century................^&confuse^&confuse
A bit confusing but if its "Mental" stress hope all is well a great #3.

So now the pace of Australia has them rattled,Adelaide has a new drop in pitches for the first time so not sure whats gonna happen there,and Perth Mitch likes bowling here......^&grin
Can't wait rock on next Thursday.

Yes the Haddin one was interesting. It also looked liked he was being 'eased' out and when Wade did well it looked like it was all over for him. It's just as well he didn't give it away, he's been one of the more bankable players since our disaster in India. His comments about what he found there - players frightened for their careers - was pretty damaging to Mickey Arthur.

A bit more info has come out about the Anderson/Clarke business. Funny how Clarke's line was picked up but Anderson's wasn't. It seems that the Australians can't stand him.

If your going to dish it out you better be prepared to take it back.....................:wink2:

It seems Jimmy Anderson threatened to punch George Bailey! And Clarke stood up as a good skipper should. But really all this is 'storm in a tea cup' stuff, an Ashes series is suppose to be an 'no holds bared' affair after all, if the media just pulled it's head in for once all would be as it should be, and that's Australia flogging the Poms.......:wink2:{sm4}

Fully agree mate ,after losing three on the bounce it's about time you did Wayne:wink2:^&grin:salute::

People over here don't really take a lot of notice of the Aussie press or the Brit press either to be honest, for me this is the greatest sporting event out there and there will always be high passion and back an forth, it's all part of it. The diff between say your good self Wayne, Jack, Howard, Larso, John and other folk is that you have the strength of character not to make it personal, at the end of the day its sport and may the best team win....ENGLAND!^&grin:wink2: .

England have now gone to Alice Springs for a two day game against some sort of invitational team. I can't understand why England agreed to this? Sure it'll be nice for a few thousand people who never get to see top line sporting teams but it'll be very hot and a two day game is frankly a waste of time. Last time England toured they arranged/demanded good preparation and got it with proper First-class games against full strength state teams. This year they're playing second 11s. I can't understand why they signed off on it? And what value there might've been has been hampered by rain. Part of it may well be the atrocious scheduling Australia does these days. I can't believe we had players in India for SEVEN one-dayers, missing the opening Shield games. It's almost as if actual cricket people have been excluded from the planning?
