Gee I have killed red belly black snakes and red back spiders on a regular occasion. They are day to day things you just deal with. It's the king brown and taipan snakes that really can give you a jumpy time. Sharks if you are silly enough to swim in flood water and don't drown than the sharks can have you because you are a idiot. Sorry for being a bit harsh but people sometimes do silly things and other people risk there own lives to get them out of the s**t. Waters going down death toll going up. Simmo.:(

Latest update:

* 25 confirmed dead & 61 missing
* unknown figures for those injured
* 200 Regular Army soldiers searching for bodies in one area alone
* 1000's of animals drowned (everything from family pets & racehorses to native animals & livestock)
* 116,000 homes & businesses flooded (many totally submerged)
* 115,000 homes still without power
* thousands of homes still isolated without phones, mobiles, internet access or any form of communication
* some families are without fresh water, food or dry clothes
* flood water contains sewerage, chemicals, petrol & oil
* 19 Army helicopters being used to rescue stranded people
* 18,000 people staying in temporary accomodation
* Brisbane city port still closed
* No major railway lines in use
* Many bridges are damaged beyond use
* 1,700 major roads flooded including many that have collapsed
* Special task force of 200 Queensland Police patrolling Brisbane city for looters (3 arrested so far)

* Flood waters receding in some areas
* Levels rising in other areas :(

Just seen the latest from the BBC and they say the floods are just starting to recede a little, and that they did not quite reach the feared peak of the 1974 floods. Heres hoping the waters continue to fall for all those in Brisbane .

Every day in the news we are bombarded with the dark side of human nature as in the shootings this week in Arizona, but sometimes in the worst of circumstances the best side of human nature comes through. The story coming through this morning from Australia of the 12 year old lad who told the emergency services to rescue his younger brother before himself and as a result lost his own life is almost beyond description. With that sort of spirit and humanity Brisbane will recover from this however long it takes.

The way things are going it makes you wonder if the Aztecs and Nostradamous are right, and the world will end on Dec 21st 2012. Knowing my luck that's the week my lottery numbers will come up. Trooper

Whether you believe in that kind of stuff or not everyone in the world who has heard of the prediction will be nervous that day.At least until midnight.

Lottery numbers, I like that one:D:D:D...

Back to the grim side, I've heard that the death toll in Brazil, in the Rio area has reached more than 400:(...

I drove my normal route to the shop today and Riverside Expressway open but had a minor detour in the city. No sign of flooding in that part but from news I can see bad flooding not far away. The Museum and Restaurant area of South Bank looks like it was mainly spared although undrground car parks will be flooded.

One collector I know has a house in the Lockyer Valley which was hit by the flash flood so hopefully he is OK.

Has been good to see all the support from everywhere. Players from major football teams are helping out with visiting people and cleaning up and have helped with filling sandbags. Even players from the Paramatta Eels (Sydney) apparently coming up to help. Lance Armstrong donated $50,000 and Kevin Petersen has put some of his Ahes gear on Ebay to raise funds. Major tennis players in Melbourne for the Open doing a fundraiser (some had only just played in Brisbane a couple of days earlier). I even noted a fundraising event on Saturday at The Australian pub in New York (saw it on NY Post web page -might give Lawrence and Louis an excuse to drink some Aussie beer or wine !!).

Not heard from Alby so hopefully he is OK. He is close to the river but reckoned would be alright when he last posted.

Hearing lots of good stories. One guy called a radio station saying he needed some tarpualin which he got. Two guys in a ute also turned up with a BBQ and started cooking sausages for the people in that street and another turned up with soft drinks.

The biggest fruit and vegetable market in Queensland at Roclea apparently went under 2 metres of water and some houses in that area had water up to 2nd floor level.

The number of houses flooded to the roof is incredible and saw image of a Hungry Jacks where could see the sign but the building totally submerged.

The amazing thing is that the crisis has been like a rolling event over 3 weeks. Started far up north in places like Emerald and Rockhampton and then when people were helping there it suddenly moved out west to Toowoomba and then the City and after the city to the border area of New South Wales. It terms of property damage they are saying it is worse than Katrina was in the USA. The massive area involved and number of incidents is something no command and control centre could handle as priorities constantly changing.

Unfortunately been some cases of theft from unattended property. The Ipswich mayor came up with a good idea. Said any caught could be used as flood markers in any future flood. Hopefully a couple might be caught by locals prior to police arrival and some "justice" applied.

Nice to see Indonesia donating $1m (probably from the $500 million Australia just donated to Indonesian schools !!).

The Qld Premier doing a great job as is the Lord Mayor Campbell Newman (ex Army Captain Engineer).

Trooper,
Regarding the end of the world I heard only last week some American religeous group reckons it will end in October this year but I don't recall the exact date !

I mentioned this to Howard and he mentioned ditching collecting toy soldiers and starting his new hobby of wine, women and partying. Oops !! Hopefully he might start buying again if I have an end of the world sale !!

It's really strange Two great days of sunshine and I will be mowing the grass tomorrow. It's like nothing ever happened were I live. But Lot's of other people are having are hard time. I will find time to donate my time to help out over the next couple of weeks to help these people clean up. The military are out on the streets doing a great job and everyday people are lending a hand. We got smashed by England in cricket and by the floods . We will be ok and rebuild . Simmo.

Simmo, I agree it is a strange feeling. Feel same as you and will be off to Rocklea to offer help to a guy I have known since 1998. Road blocked to his area today and I need to buy some boots as mud is pretty thick.

Brett,

Mate, I have been without power for a bit. Our property is right on the river, on top what I would call is second bank. During its peak, the river was about about 8m away from my deck (normally 40m), cruising past at a lazy 26 knots. The river peaked here at 19m. Some of our place is trashed, Joanne and I are fine and our house survived...although it was a relatively close run thing. We are really lucky, and I feel deeply for those who have lost everything. Thanks to all those who sent there best wishes, you thoughts and friendship is even more appreciated at times like this...cheers, Alby

Here's hoping it dries out soon for all our Aussie friends and hoping that the missing persons turn up ok. -- Al

Alby,
Good to hear OK at your place. You should be thanking whoever had the idea to build the Wivenhoe Dam.
Regards
Brett
