The horror! The National's super-phenom pitcher Strasburg needs Tommy John surgery. What a disaster. Begin the finger-pointing. Who's fault? Nature? Management? Ownership? Just plain bad luck? Who knows. But it's a year to 18 months recovery time. Tough break for the kid and the Nationals. I guess we fans will have to be patient longer than expected.:(:( -- Al

When I heard about this, it made me sick to my stomach, the kid was a mega star in waiting, now who knows, you can kiss all of next year goodbye, doubt if he will ever be the same, but who knows with what doctors can do today.

Everytime I think of Tommy John, I think nice guy, had a good to very good run, but he couldn't break a pane of glass with his fastball, he relied on junk and offspeed stuff to make his career last, this kid is a power pitcher.

I blame ownership, rushing the kid out there to make a quick buck, the Nationals can't get out of their own way it seems....................

This is another "golly gee" post about the Orioles. They have turned into a hot team out of nowhere when all such expectations were long dead. Showalter has TOTALLY turned the O's around. They are now 17-10 under Showalter. The 4 major starters were 12-41 in the 105 games prior to Buck taking over. Those same 4 starters are 12-5 since the change. I can't account for this at all. It makes me think that the team wasn't giving their all under Trembley (15-39) and Samuel (17-34), not performing professionally. Now, out of nowhere, these same losers become winners? I think Buck must have threatened everyone concerned with the lose of their jobs. Someone finally had the guts to say "Play good ball or I'll find someone that will!". About freakin' time. Amazing what a little "motivation" can do. Come on 2011. -- Al

The NYY are on fire. 8 wins in a row. Marcus Thames (where did he come from?) is hot, hot, hot. Kerry Woods was a great get as he has been lights out since coming over. Still a little nervous about that starting pitching rotation though. Sabathia and Hughes and pray for rain. -- Al

I wouldn't worry about the evil empire if I were you, they are pretty much a..........YAWN...........lock to win their............YAWN.................28th World Series title this..................YAWN.............fall.

Naturally Woods is lights out, everything the Yankees touch turns to gold, they should look into resigning Bucky Dent so he can hit another tape measure 300 foot home run to win a pennant.

Rumor is they are asking MLB to void Mauer's contract so that next year they can sign him and Puhjols, then they'll sign Crawford away from Tampa so their line up next year will be Mauer, Teiteira, Cano, Captain intangibles, ARoid, Pujhols as DH,Crawford, Grandisson (or as that nitwit broadcaster calls him, The "Grandiman can") and Swisher, they'll be the first team in MLB history to go 162-0 and have all nine of their players start in the all star game.

Actually, they should just send the entire NYY team to play the national league.

They'll win the East, play the Twinkies, demolish them, play either the Rangers or the Rays and beat them, winning their 846th AL pennant, then beat whatever team makes it out the national league.

That fleabrained frontrunning fraud Spike Lee is going to need a new hat, everywhere he's been this past year, he's had on his "NYY 27 time World Series Champion hat", looks like that will............YAWN.......be old hat..............YAWN...............soon.

Won't be long now before it's 30 World Series Championships, then 50, then 100, then 200.

I heard the Yankees have already signed A-Roid and Jeters unborn children to two twenty year, 400 million dollar contracts, nothing like planning ahead.

Wow, what excitement.

LOL. Don't hold back, George. Tell us how you really feel about the NYY. Actually, I am considering a petition to MLB to have the NYY moved to their own 1 team division, just to give the rest (read Orioles here) of the AL East a chance. The NYY could then play as an independent during the season and just show up for the playoffs. I am still a bit leery about the NYY starting rotation. Maybe they can trade for Guthrie and Matusz from the O's to boost their final run. Those two could be big winners with a good club. It has been a good race in the East with 3 teams in it until recently, when Boston fell out. Rays aren't dead yet. The O's are getting a chance to play spoiler and they are not the pushovers they were a month or so ago. Best time of year now here with MLB, NFL, NCAA all going at the same time. I love the fall season.:D -- Al

Nice post George! I,ll never forget when I told you about a documentory I had just watched about the Red Sox and the infamous home run by Bucky F------ Dent. Your love for the Yankees exceeds all bounds!!!
I always thought the Cardinals- Cubs or the Blues- Blackhawks were the best rivals, not so. It,s the Red Sox-Yankees.
Pujols just may be going to NY as the Cardinals are a complete mess.
Someone please take LaRussa.

George, let it go:p...Your sweeping of the Yanks with a 3-0 series headstart more than makes up for the Dent miracle heard around Beantown. :D Also to be fair, I am told Burnett, Vasquez and a cardboard cutout of Petitte will be our rotation for any post season series....... Michael

I love the Yankees, I really do, rooting for them is like rooting for Trump or Gates to make another million.

Bucky F#$%ing Dent; my all time favorite Yankee, fouls a pitch off his foot, breaks his bat in the process, is hopping around like a nitwit, grabs one of Mickey Rivers corked bats and hits a 301 foot pop up that literally bounced off the top of the green monster for a home run, pennant goes to the Yankees.

Actually the shine has really worn off the apple on the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry, ESPN's ratings whenever they broadcast their games are down, the rest of the country could care less about the rivalry, who can blame them.

And I always get a kick out calling it a rivalry; since 1918, the Yankees have won 27 (soon to be 28) World Series titles to the Red Sox TWO, and have won the AL East what, 900 times in a row?

That is hardly a rivalry.

SO glad I peddled my Red Sox/Yankees tickets for their series towards the end of the year, 4 seats front row on top of the green monster, can put that money to much better use at this point, sold them to a Yankees fan to boot, who cares at this point........................

Al, I also heard Strasburg is going to now retire, but the Yankees are going to sign him and one of the Yankee trainers, you know, the guy who worked on Clemens, Petitte, Jeter and A-Roid, knows the Mr Miagi hands rub together healing trick and will mend Strasburgs blown out arm and he'll go on to have seventeen 20 win seasons in a row..........................

Nope, sorry, blowing a 14 game lead and losing that playoff game is always going to leave a mark.

As in forever.

Don't worry about your pitching, Sheman Klump will pitch every game for you in the post season; besides, when you score 342 runs a game, who needs pitching?

Not only that, they got swept in a 4 game series in September vs the Yankees, forever known as "The Boston Massacre, part II", had they won just one of those games, there would have been no playoff game, no Bucky F@#$%^G Dent home run, none of it.

I remember Don Zimmer, the manager at the time, also known as "The Gerbil" and the guy Pedro Martinez face planted in the 2003 playoffs, hated Bill Lee with a passion and Bill was hurt but came back later in the year and was ready to pitch in that series, but instead "The Gerbil" went with some ham and egger named Bobby Sprowl who got shelled..........Zimmer, what a nitwit, the same guy at the helm of the 1984 Cubs who blew that playoff series to Steve "Helmet Head" Garvey and the Padres, who then got demolished by the Tigers in the World Series.................

O yea, baseball history. Finally found something Mitch dosen,t know about!:)

Gary is extremely enthusiastic about the hobby, does not pummel/bludgeon/harang dealers into giving him a deal so he can flip the items, does not buy to hoard or resell, does not pass himself off as a collector when in fact he's a speculator/flipper/guy who's not interested in the hobby but just sees a way to make a fast buck so gets involved in the hobby like gangbusters only to fizzle out and fade shortly thereafter, does not lowball a collector on a retired item so he can flip it on Ebay, sells items out of his collection when his passion for that time period fades or when his fondness for a manufactureror type of collectible fades (plastic loses it's luster, so he sells it off).

Much like 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of you guys, ie, a true collector.
