Baseball 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (2 Viewers)

Anybody catch the first playoff games yesterday? There were some good games and a surprise. First off, Halliday's historical no-hitter. He just plain dominated the Reds. Gave them no chance and I believe this might be a trend for the Phillies. They have an outstanding pitching rotation for the playoffs. Halliday, Oswalt, and Hamels will be tough for any opponent to decipher in consecutive games. The suprise was Texas beating the Rays on the Rays home field. I didn't expect it and Texas looked good doing it. NYY came back to beat the Twins, which has to hurt Twin morale. They had a 3 run lead and blew it, not to mention the scoring chances they had in the 8th inning and didn't produce anything. NYY needed that win because their starting pitching is going to be a thrill :)rolleyes:) after CC. That NYY hitting line-up is hard to keep down the whole game but a hot pitcher can do it. Just hope the NYY pitching holds up. One last congratulations to Halliday, that was a masterpiece he threw. Total of 104 pitches, only 25 balls. Faced 28 men and walked only one man. This means he threw only 21 balls to the other 27 men he faced. Superb performance. -- Al

Anyone but me watching (or caring about) the playoffs? Game 2 in progress and Texas is stomping the Rays 6-0 in the fifth inning. Rays better wake up or this series is all but done. They don't want to go to Arlington down 2-0. -- Al

I was going back and forth to one of our conference rooms where we have a TV and I don't think the Rays saw this coming. Maybe like everyone else (including me), they figured Texas would be a soft touch.

Yeah, the Rays are in trouble. Now to see if Pettitte has anything in his tank. Experience alone might be enough. -- Al

Although I'm not a Yankee fan, it would probably be a boring WS without them. But more importantly I'd like them to see them beat Pavano tonight, just for the money he stole from them.

LOL. That's a good point. Years of nothing for huge bucks. Now another big contract man, A-rod, has sure been worth his money, in relative terms. A-rod, as I said in an earlier post, just keeps putting up big numbers, year after year. Last year he got rid of his post-season curse. CC is also proving to be worth his money. Now, if only someone would offer me $10 million a year or so, I could buy some "shock and awe" items like a choo-choo or a ship-o-the line.:D:D:D -- Al

It would seem Pettitte had plenty in his tank. Great pitching job. NYY up 2-0. Twins and Rays are in trouble. -- Al

Lincecum pitched a beauty last night, beating the Braves 1-0. Been some outstanding pitching in the playoffs so far which has made them fun to watch for me. Phillies game should be good this evening, as should the Giant game. Giants have got a good staff for the playoffs, like the Phillies do. Both teams have three really strong starters, enough for a short series. Twins must be wondering what they have to do to win a playoff game, especially against the NYY. The Twins have lost 11 straight playoff games, 8 of them to NYY. Glad to see Texas is making hay against the Rays. Glad for Nolan Ryan, although I'll still root for the NYY if they meet each other in the next round. -- Al

Wasn't able to stay up late enough to see the Braves come back from a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 in 11 innings. Must have been some game. Giants-Braves stand 1-1. All the other series are 2-0, with NYY, Texas, and Phillies all leading. I have expected more out of the Rays and Twins. Reds self-destructed in a big way in game 2. These playoffs have given some great pitching performances and that is what I expected from Giants and Phillies. Tonight we will see if the Rays and Twins can extend their series. Personally, I hope not.;) -- Al

Are there no other baseball fans left on here?:D No one is posting a thing. The NYY closed out the Twins last night, sweeping the series 3-0. The NYY pitching was outstanding, again. Pettitte and Hughes were superb and CC just "good". We shall see how they do down the line but I am very encouraged by their showings so far. The Rays came back and beat Texas, thereby saving their season for at least one more game. Phillies look real strong and are in sweep position for game 3 in Cinncy. SF & Atlanta are even 1-1, advantage Braves at home. These playoffs have been marked by great pitching and I hope it continues. Now, if only the weather holds up north... -- Al

.... Phillies look real strong and are in sweep position for game 3 in Cinncy.

I think they got lucky the other night- 4 errors!! C'mon. It was a roller coaster from game 1 though- the Phils always keep it interesting. :D

Can't wait to watch them pimp-slap the Yanks this year!!

Phillies swept. Congrats to them. Braves must be heart-broken. They had game 3, all they needed was the last 3 outs. Got 2 of them and then came unraveled and lost the game 3-2 as SF scored 2 in the 9th. SF now leads 2-1 in games. Texas blew it. Came home up 2-0 and promptly lost both home games. Now they go back to Tampa for final game, advantage Tampa. Nolan probably tearing out the last of his hair. NYY and Phillies will be well rested for round two. -- Al

I'm sure if they had Wagner they'd be up but he's gone for the rest of the post season it looks like. On Saturday, Texas was only six outs away from the sweep but couldn't get it done. However, they have Lee going so I still like Texas.

Whether the Rays or the Rangers win game 5 tomorrow, neither will be able to pitch their best starter in the first game of the ALCS, possibly the first 2, depending on the pitch count from game 5. This will give the Yankees, whose pitching rotation is set up, a real advantage in the series.

I'm a Reds fans - so still in mourning.. They completely fell apart in game 2.. Games one and two proved the old adage - good pitching beats good hitting.. Actually the Reds' pitching in those two games wasn't bad... 1-0 and 2-0.. For the most part Cincy has young players so hopefully they'll learn from this and get back to the post season next year - and perform better.

SF just eliminated Atlanta in another tightly pitched game, 3-2. Phillies vs. SF for the pennant. Bobby Cox says goodbye after a long and great career in Atlanta. They will miss him, as will baseball. Now, who gets to play NYY for the AL pennant? Methinks Tampa Bay unless Lee spins his magic. Lee is tough to beat when sharp. Still, I like Tampa's chances. -- Al

Yeah, Phillies games are great drama! Tho, game three against was a little less exciting.

I want to see the Yankees batters up against Doc.

This will give the Yankees, whose pitching rotation is set up, a real advantage in the series.

That's great, nice to see the Yankees catch a break, the past 91 years or so have been a real disaster for them, one bad break after another on their way to 27 World Series titles...........is Burnett pitching in the ALCS by the way or is Sherman Klump going to pitch in every game; you know, the guy they dropped a dump truck full of money in front of last year as a free agent?

How many teams in baseball can go into a series and NOT pitch a guy they paid more than the GNP of South America to a year ago...........the Yankees are just a priceless organization, win or lose the World Series this year, they'll go out and sign either Crawford or Werth and next year, they'll have 9 all stars in their line up.

And next year if the Twins win the AL Central again and have to face the Yankees in the playoffs, maybe they can ask the league for a get out of jail free card and allow the Yankees to move on without sweeping them out of the playoffs for the 85th time..............

This has to be one of the funniest posts I've seen in awhile ;) Wonder if Louis will think so
