Baseball 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (1 Viewer)

...SF got good pitching to take a 1-0 lead in games. That kid Lincecum really throws his whole body into a pitch. You would think he'd wear out but he just keeps going. SF in good shape after beating Halliday in Philly...

Actually, Lincecum and Halliday were roughly equal, if you look at their line scores, both lasted 7 innings, Halliday gave up 8 hits, Lincecum 6; Halliday struck out 7 and walked no one, Lincecum struck out 8 but walked 3; both hung up a couple of mistakes in the strike zone for home runs; Halliday threw 103 pitches, 73 for strikes, Lincecum threw 113, 71 for strikes. But I think the difference was in the closers, and again, the Phils phailed to deliver with men on base. That's plagued them all season, and even in the division series; they have a relatively low team average with men in scoring position. And the Phils still aren't hitting, as a team, as they are capable of hitting. It's going to be a good series, I think, going right down to the last game.

Prost!

Nice game last night, a nice pitchers duel, not quite the duel I was expecting.

The Giants remind me a lot of the 2001 Diamond Backs, the 2003 Marlins and the 2006 Cardinals; all three came down to the wire to make the playoffs and all three played great once they got there.

Still early yet, but anytime you beat Doc, it's a good thing; the kid the Giants are throwing today is no slouch either.

Cheer up Yankee fans; were it not for an 8th inning implosion by the Rangers bullpen, you'd be down 0-2 heading back to New York with your season riding on Andy Pettitte's 107 year old arm.

Be thankful you stole game one as aside from that one inning, you've been outscored 12-3 so far.

Oswalt did a fine job, now it's 1-1 all in the NL, going back to SF. AL 1-1 with game 3 in NY tonight. Normally I would say NYY advantage with Pettitte pitching, except Lee is pitching for Texas and he is a great pitcher and a Yankee killer. Pray I am wrong but I think #3 goes to Texas. That means, as Louis said, Burnett in game 4 and anyones guess as to which Burnett shows up: the good, the bad, or the ugly. A 1 out of 3 chance for NYY. Jeter, A-Rod, Tex, Cano and the rest better have their hitting shoes on the next couple of games or this series could be over, fast. -- Al

Texas wins game 3 by 8-0, a rout. Lee was pretty untouchable. Pettitte did a fine job again, but it wasn't enough as the NYY hitters were stymied and the bullpen failed. I hate to say this but if Burnett cannot get it done tonight, I think the NYY are toast. Even given a couple of wins to stay in the series, the Yanks still have to face Lee again, a pitcher they have been unable to solve in post season play. I sure hope the good Burnett shows up. -- Al

Well, the key is to not to get to that position, kind of like the Mets trying to avoid Mike Scott in 1986; they didn't want to deal with a game 7 against him.

The following headlines probably sum up the fans feelings:

Daily News - Panic in the Bronx.

Newsday (a Long Island newspaper) - Rested and Ready.

Although the fans may be panicking, I doubt the players are.

Cliff Lee; wow, I mean just W-O-W.

Untouchable.

He was, as they say, lights out.

The Yankees didn't have a chance last night.

And who was that tomato can they threw in there in the 8th inning, the guy had two pitches, balls and base hits, just brutal.

Be thankful you are not down 3 zip like you should be if the Rangers did not hand you game 1.

8th inning in that game aside, you've been outhit, outpitched and outscored 20-3.

Burnett will probably be lights out tonight, although I'll always remember his meltdown in Fenway a couple of years ago when he shook off Posada twice, then threw a meatball that Youkalis hit into the Atlantic Ocean and Burnett just stood there, back to the plate, screaming why, WHY, WHY!!!!!!!!!

If he wins tonight, you've got Sherman Klump Thursday, then Hughes, then Pettitte.

Only problem is you'll have to beat Lee.

In a game 7.

In Texas.

Not impossible, but not good either.

BUT Yankee fans, fear not as dollars to donuts, Cliff Lee will be wearing pinstripes next year.

Guaranteed................

I'm lovin it George!! It's been great and I know you are as well :D;):D

I just hope the phils don't choke this afternoon and get too far behind.

That Halliday/Lincecum matchup was evenly matched though I saw the final as 2-1 or 1-0

BTW- Anyone else see that game not too long ago with the fan who had a big sign that read "Linceum looks like a 14 year old homeless girl" :D

CLASSIC!!

Post season baseball is something special, that is for sure, nice to have a day game, they should do that more often in the ALCS/NLCS/WS.

Pretty comical last night when that rocket scientist ran onto the field and the cameras wouldn't show it, guaranteed it's up on YouTube already, sounds like the nitwit got his brains handed to him by New Yorks finest, which in his case, was in a thimble...................

George (or anyone else)- you got a favorite player?? Yaz?? Bench??

Mine is Nolan Ryan- hand's down. Other's were Steve Garvey, Rip and Schmiddy.

...I just hope the phils don't choke this afternoon and get too far behind.

The Phils are getting de-pantsed right now, they're down 3-0, Giants are up in the bottom of the 6th, out hit the Phils 4 to 2 so far, and Utley made an error.

Though, Hamels just struck out Cody Ross, which has been very difficult for the Phils' pitchers to do in this series.

Prost!

Word is that the Yanks might challenge Lee's rosin soaked hat. There has been some league talk that he is doctoring the ball. I am not sure why the umps do not make it an issue that he goes to the spots on his hat before pitching the ball... Michael

SF wins to lead series 2-1. A 3-0 shutout, another finely pitched game. Love a well pitched game. Now if only the NYY can get one and win it. -- Al

That's absurd and you know it. Admit it, you got your you-know-what handed to you last night. Maybe the Yank hitters should try corking the bats

LOL. Brad, now you know a corked bat only works if you hit the ball. So far the NYY hitters aren't hitting and the pitchers aren't pitching. This makes winning a tough thing to do. I hope the NYY can get competitive, fast. It's the 2nd inning and they are not trailing, yet. Come on Burnett and gang! -- Al

Maybe the Yankees management should sign him as a free agent in the offseason. If they do, barring injury, they will win the next three World Series.

Michael Kay was whining about that earlier in the week; last time I checked, rosin is not a banned substance like vasoline for example.

And in case you didnt' notice, Lee wore a brand new hat last night.

And he pitched lights out with it.

WHEN Yankees management signs him as a free agent in the offseason, barring injury, they will win the next three World Series.

Fixed it for you Louis.

Nice job tonight by big Petey, little Petey and Joe bag of donuts mugging the Rangers right fielder so Cano's pop up ended up being a home run.

Must be relatives of Jeffrey Maer.

Love a guy who wears his hat backwards, crooked AND sideways all at the same time..............he did a good job defending his actions though, very lucid and well thought out retort he gave; "Yo, yo, yo, yo, check it bro, check it, I didn't do nuthing, da ball landed behind youze, my boooyyyyyee Robinson hit dat ball out a da park baby, ya boooyyyyee!!!"

Priceless.

Yup, that was pretty bad. Must have been Maier's relatives.

This Texas pitcher ain't long for this world.
