Baseball 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (3 Viewers)

Phillies beat SF and get to go home to try and survive, same boat as the NYY except the NYY are on the road. Big difference. Playoffs have been pretty entertaining with both favorites (?) being on the edge of elimination. My guess is MLB wants either NYY or the Phillies in the WS simply for east coast viewer interest. Me too. I will watch a series without either of them as long as SF gets in. Would prefer NYY-SF but who knows? Just not much of a Texas fan. Love Nolan Ryan but I still have bad memories over the former Senators being moved to Texas by that accursed Bob Short. Anyway, it is all soon to be settled. -- Al

Some odd calls last night- I think Giants fans have every right to be a bit miffed with that bunt by Halladay- that was a foul ball- cut-n-dry

Speaking of Bob Short I went to the last game at RFK (I think I've posted it before). Yanks had an early lead and Senators grabbed the lead (I think in the 7th). Someone (actually a few people) ran onto the field in the bottom of the 8th. Fans were warned that if this happened again Senators would forfeit. Order was restored. Top of the Ninth comes. Guess what happens: it's a jail break. Never seen anything like it. Thousand and I mean thousands (well maybe it was hundreds, but it was a lot of people that's for sure) are on the field, ripping up everything they can get their hands on. Unbelievable moment.

I have very vivid memories of this, from TV. Couldn't get to the game. What a fitting end, to forfeit the final game, to the NYY, when we had the lead. A perfect ending to the Short era in DC. What a bum. -- Al

There have been a lot of bad calls throughout this series, and the division series with the Reds, going against both teams. Some of the umpires could stand to go back to the minors and get some practice, before they're allowed to call major league games. Strike zones have been inconsistent and pitches have been called inconsistently, not from ump to ump, because each will have his own way, but by the same ump in the course of a game. But still, I'd rather have that than instant replay and appeals.

Prost!

Yes, a real scum. You can imagine what the fans were chanting in the stands ;)

Agreed on all counts....

Sometimes I wonder if there isn't a larger strategy involved - like umps directed to call games in a certain way to make it harder for certain teams to make it to the WS. I have to wonder.

The great Baseball Conspiracy aside, the Phillies certainly have made this as dramatic as they could. And that's why I love them. It's grit and spit with them all the way.

Congratulations to the Rangers for the AL Pennant and their first WS to boot. They completely outplayed the NYY, hittting and pitching, to win it. Good for Nolan Ryan and his club. NYY now have to regroup and fix the starting pitching which started the year so well but went down the tubes after the All-Star break. Whoever the Rangers play, it should be a good WS. -- Al

Hey Al-

sorry you didn't get the word- that would be a particular team from the Philadelphia region :D
Good luck to your boys, Chris. They got a good team and their starting pitchers are tops. Got a bit of a problem with SF still being in the way, with pretty good pitchers, also. Should be fun to watch. I haven't looked at Philly but the weather gods have called for beautiful baseball weather in the DC area this weekend. Play ball!:D -- Al

Have to say a SF-Texas WS is not what I would have bet on. Even when down to the final 4 teams, I would have picked NY-Philly. Congrats to both of the pennant winners. Guess I can sit back and enjoy the WS without getting too cranked up, while wishing the SF Giants good luck. I kinda would like to see them win a WS for the first time since moving to the left coast. As that world famous SF Police Inspector Harry Callahan would say, "Make my day". -- Al

Mays is God and since the Mets trace their ancestry from the Giants, as well as the Dodgers, you'll know who I'm rooting for. And it won't be because of my desire for greed

I am guessing that the ratings will be no where near a Phillies and Yanks matchup......The yanks may be hated ,but everyone watches them..Michael

Good point, Michael. I'm sure the TV gods would have liked to see at least one of the east coast teams get in. Now they will have to start the west coast games early or there will be no audience east of the Big Muddy. -- Al

Ok, I know it's early yet, just the fifth inning with the Giants up 8-2, but two things come to mind;

1.) THIS version of Cliff Lee would look AWESOME in pinstripes, so please Yankee front office, back up a dump truck full of dough to THIS guy.

2.) Should have taken MarkeyMark up on his offer for tickets, what did he want again, 9 grand per seat? What a prince of a guy.............

:D You gotta remember George- he got his stats WHILE PLAYING the Yankees.... :D Rest of the league, well, not so sure.... :D

Interesting writeup on espn.com about a couple Yankee fans spitting and pouring beer on his wife.....probably that same dope that interfered on that "home run" in the ALCS. Anyway, they said it won't deter them from playing in NY next year- go figure............

Game 1 to SF in an unlikely manner. SF bombs Lee off the mound and scores 11 runs to win. Wasn't quite the pitching duel I was hoping to see. Was a good game and fun atmosphere for the SF fans. Game 2 a must win for Texas so they can get Lee back on the mound. With Lee losing, Texas is at a big disadvantage against the SF pitching staff. -- Al
