Baseball 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (1 Viewer)

This has to be one of the funniest posts I've seen in awhile ;) Wonder if Louis will think so

I find George's rants very amusing. After all, he doesn't exactly cheer for the Royals or the Rays, his team his the second highest payroll in the AL.;):p

I find it amusing in talking to Yankee fans this year, they for the most part did not like the Yankees chances in the playoffs.

Really?

Why is that?

Because you couldn't pull off a trade for Albert Puhjols/Joe Mauer/Felix Hernandez/Hanley Ramirez at the trade deadline?

The Twins; 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, bye bye Twins.
The Rangers; up 2-0, they can't close out the Rays AT HOME, a place where in their history they've never won a playoff game, as in ever.
The Rays; they play in a little league stadium in front of friends and family until two years ago, now they're the second coming of the gashouse gang, murders row and the go go sox all rolled into one?

They'll be back in the World Series in about a week, where they'll either play the Phillies or the Giants and it will be time for Spike Lee to buy another hat..............

Is not Cliff Lee a free agent after the season ends? If the NYY have any sense they will back up one of their cash filled dump trucks to Mr. Lee's front door. They could still use a starting pitcher next season. At any rate, I expect Cliff Lee will be one really rich player in the not to distant future. Of course the Orioles could always sign him.:rolleyes::p:D -- Al

Cliff Lee is the man! Gritty performance as he justified the trade. I'm sure his agent is drooling :)

He is a close friend of Sabathia and Lee signing a Yank contract for next year is a done deal..:p Michael

SF just eliminated Atlanta in another tightly pitched game, 3-2. Phillies vs. SF for the pennant. Bobby Cox says goodbye after a long and great career in Atlanta. They will miss him, as will baseball. Now, who gets to play NYY for the AL pennant? Methinks Tampa Bay unless Lee spins his magic. Lee is tough to beat when sharp. Still, I like Tampa's chances. -- Al
Shoulda known Lee would stand up and get it done. What a terrific job. Congrats to Texas. Round 2 of the playoffs should be a thrill. -- Al

Absolutely, the Yankees need all sorts of help, they only won 96 games this year and did not win the division afterall.

Sign Lee, Crawford and Werth, move Swisher to DH, then you'll have 10 all stars in the line up and a rotation of Sherman Klump, Burnett, Hughes, Lee, Pettitte (whatever chemicals he's still on, I want some).

You'll go 162-0; might as well crown them 2011 Champions and cancel the season.

At least this will be entertaining; Giants/Phillies and Evil Empire/Rangers. If it had been Evil Empire/Rays, I wouldn't have watched two seconds of it (oh and someone needs to tell those Rays fans the season is over and they can now return those hats, teeshirts, etc, to Bobs Sporting goods store now).

I'll be pulling for the Giants, my second favorite team in baseball and the Rangers; if they both win, it will guarantee either the first WS title for the Rangers, or the first WS title for the Giants since they moved to San Francisco............

LOL. C'mon George, you know Lee would look good in pinstripes although he would look good in Oriole black and orange, too. I'll root for the Giants as well. I have followed them since the days of Marichal, McCovey, and Mays. That franchise deserves a title. If both the Giants and NYY reach the WS, I'll be happy either way it goes. As to cancelling the 2011 season, no way! What would I do all summer? Man does not live by Treefrog Forum alone.:D -- Al

Lee is friends with Sherman Klump, he's all but signed, sealed and delivered to the Bronx.

Wonderful.

And word is Victor Martinez will be joining them as well, this according to Sherman Klump, he's telling people "No way VMart goes back to Boston, my boy is coming to New York"............hey Sherman, I'd worry about Texas first before you start mapping out the roster for next year.

Been a fan of the Giants since I was a kid, would love to see them get to and win the series, a classy organization that plays in a beautiful ball park...................

I think we need a glossary for the names George bestows on teams and ballplayers ;)

Today is a very historic day in baseball history; October 13th, any ideas WHY Yankee fans?

Think real hard now, harken back to oh, say 1960, World Series, Pirates vs the Yankees, bottom on the 9th inning, score tied, game seven............................;)

Ironically, it was this WS that first caught my attention, baseball wise. I remember the older kids in my neighborhood talking about it. I got hooked on baseball the next season when the M&M boys did their thing. Been a NYY fan ever since. -- Al

Game 1 to the NYY in a way few would have expected. Texas 6 outs from victory (leading 5-1 in the 8th inning) when they imploded and gave up 5 runs in that inning and end up losing 6-5. Not a good sign to blow a 4 run lead that late in the game. Texas had knocked the best pitcher on the NYY (CC Sabathia) out of the game after only 4 innings and their pitcher was cruising, only giving up 4 hits, until the 8th. Texas bullpen blew the game, big time. Game 2 now a must win for the Rangers or Texas has to go to NYY down 2-0, not a good situation. Great comeback for the NYY. Those old vets know that the game is 9 innings long. Looking forward to Game 2 and the NL playoff Game 1 with that terrific pitching match-up, Lincecum (SF) vs Halliday (Phil), should be a classic. -- Al

Al,

Series is over, plain and simple. A game they had to have, a game they should have had but a game they didn't get. They should have been up 5-0 after first inning but I guess you could argue one way or the other whether the guy should have come home. Bullpen was exposed. As today's Times put it, they kept sending in one reliever after another, one less effective than the prior one. If they don't win today (and I think they won't), Series will not return to Texas.

I agree with this and sure hope it's true.:D -- Al

I hope you're right Brad, but last night's win doesn't mean a heckuva a lot if the Yanks don't win with Hughes this afternoon. If they go up 2-0, then they will only see Lee once, and win the series in 5 or 6. If they split in Texas, then they face Lee 1-1, and will probably be down 1-2 with Burnett coming to the mound, a really bad scenario.

I am kind of amazed that they won when down 0-5 and with CC, their Ace, looking like Burnett. But if the Rangers blew that lead, no lead is safe with their bullpen.

The simple lesson learned last night is rooting against the Yankees is nothing more than a sheer excercise in futility and all it does in the end is raise your blood pressure.

Yankees on the ropes in the first inning, bases loaded, wild pitch and 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999%of the time, the run scores, but not againt the Yankees, they get the greatest bounce ever, right to Picklenose, who flips to Sherman Klump, tag, out, inning over.

And that 8th inning, good God; Darren Oliver!?!?! What's he, 107 years old, comes in and walks two batters to load the bases, then A-Roid hits a rocket that Young "Ole's", two runs score and the floodgates open.

A game they had to have and should have had, yet they gave it away and Brad is right, the series is over, the NYY move on to their 211th World Series, banner #28 sure to follow.

Just swell.

Well, the anti-NYY element is celebrating today. NYY starting pitching is proving to be a disaster so far. Each starter went 4 innings and they have given up 12 runs. Not good. Fortunately the bull pen is doing well or Texas would lead 2-0 instead of being tied 1-1. Pettitte will have to beat Lee or the NYY will be in trouble with the starting pitchers failing to produce. SF got good pitching to take a 1-0 lead in games. That kid Lincecum really throws his whole body into a pitch. You would think he'd wear out but he just keeps going. SF in good shape after beating Halliday in Philly. I need either NYY or SF to make the series because I doubt I will watch a Texas-Philly series.:p -- Al
