We are going to the Angels game today, leaving in an hour for the Big A!

The problem with the Angels is a terrible pen (Sciosia keeps using Isringhausen and gets punished for it) and they have lost Scott Downs). They also have an inconsistent starting rotation. CJ Wilson has just been terrible, Haren not much better and Earvin Santana just as bad (although better of late).

They have the trouble typical of bad teams: when they pitch, they don't hit and vice versa. As bad as last night was, a few weeks ago they had an important four game series against the Rangers and were headed to a 3-0 lead in the series and lost. It's been downhill ever since. Unless the pen improves quickly, forget it.

Have a great time at the game, Brad. I hope your man Greinke can beat the Rays. The O's need some help and the Rays just keep winning. :wink2: -- Al

Greinke was not very good today nor was the whole Angels team but it was a fun experience. My son was somewhat happy as his men Trout and Pujols hit HRs. The stadium is a little old and could use a little updating but was nice. A lot of enthusiastic Angels fans. Took some photos and will post them when I get back east.

Alright George I have my Red sox hat on tonite pulling for the Sox to work some more magic against the Yanks, a win for the Sox tonite would pull my O's within 5 games of dem bums, come on Sox you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!...Sammy

Watching the game as I type this. The Yanks have just scored in the 1st, to lead 1-0. I'm more concerned about getting some distance from the Rays. They just keep winning and keeping pace, making the Wild Card race a little nerve racking. I think we need to start the Buck Showalter Manager of the Year talk. With the O's having just one reliable starting pitcher all season, Buck has never let the team give up and has them in a position that should have been impossible with such hit or miss starters. Go O's! -- Al

I agree with you on Buck as manager of the year, he's taking a really young team with alot of injuries throughout the whole year and help put them into a position to be in the playoffs, but I am not looking at the wild card I want the O's to as Tom Beringer said in the movie Major league...Let's win the whole **** thing":)...Sammy

With the O's and the Nats having such great seasons, I haven't completely given up the fairy tale ending of a Baltimore vs Washington World Series.{eek3} That would be unbeatable.^&cool -- Al

Not looking good so far, down 2-0 to the Yankees, Captain Intangibles has two doubles and has scored two runs.

38 years old and he is batting 3rd in the AL and leading all of MLB in hits.

Isn't that interesting?

Yep, interesting.

The announcers tonight on YESPN can't say enough good things about Captain Intangibles.

Now, Ichiro, aka "The Sultan of Swat II", has hit another one out. That team is a home run hitting machine. -- Al

Let me guess; to right field correct?

Have to give the Yankees credit; they are stacked with 240,250 hitters who go 1-4 every night with the one hit being a home run, it's incredible really.

The Red Sox have a higher team batting average and have scored more runs than the Yankees.

But the Yankees have hit 55 more home runs than the Red Sox.

FIFTY FIVE.

Ichiro ended up hitting 2 Hr's last night, both to right field, as he would, batting left-handed. The NYY's can't hit for average, and they can't hit with RISP. All they do is hit Hr's and win. It is the kind of line-up that kills an average pitcher, but can be vulnerable to an ace. Question is, who has enough aces to shut them down in a 5 or 7 game series? I can't think of anyone in the AL, but there are a few teams in the NL that might do it. Someone's staff in the AL needs to get hot in the playoffs to take out the NYY's. They are just a tough team to take out over several games. -- Al

Huge series in DC starting tonight, if the rain holds off. Nats vs Braves. The Braves will be facing the Nats best pitcher, Jordan Zimmermann, tonight, and then Strasburg and Detwiler. Tonights game should be a great pitching match-up as the Braves send their best, Tim Hudson, to the mound. Braves need to take 2 of 3 to stay close. If the Braves sweep, they will leave town only 2 games back. A Nats sweep leaves the Braves 8 back. Let the fun begin! -- Al

The NYY's can't hit for average, and they can't hit with RISP. All they do is hit Hr's

When the DVD comes out for the 2012 WS champion NYY, here's the title;

"The 2012 New York Yankees; couldn't hit for average or with RISP, all they did was hit home runs."

Nice title, congrats for coming up with it Al.

I can't see anyone beating them in the playoffs, they'll have HFA during the entire playoffs and will win three series 4-3 on their way to title #28.

Awesome, can't wait to see the news footage of the parade with Captain Intagibles, horseface, A-roid, fruitbat, Sherman Klump and the corpses of Russell Martin, Andrew Jones, Eric Chavez, Raul Ibanez, Ichiro and the rest of the cast offs they threw together all smiling up a storm as they drive by Louis and his kids in the canyon of heroes...................

Whew! Nats took the important first game in the series due to a Braves fielding flub in the 13th inning. The starters weren't sharp so the pitching duel didn't develope until the bullpens took over. Game was 4-4 after the 5th, and then went 8 scoreless until the winner. Great bullpen work by both teams. The best Atlanta can now do is to win the next two and leave town trailing by 4 games. Nats looking good. The O's were fortunate that even though they lost, so did NY. The Rays continue to win and are gaining ground on both NY and the O's. O's still are half a game up in the race for the last wild card, but that isn't much. Rays are red-hot, going 14-4 in August. Hard to keep pace with that. -- Al

I heard a story on the morning news about Roger Clemens leaving his assisted-living facility and playing 2-3 games for the minor league Sugar Land Skeeters with hopes of signing with the Houston Astros. I see the biggest obstacle to plan being the inability to find a 5XL jersey for Roger with neck hole large enough for him to pull over his bulbous head ! ^&grin

The Texas con man spent a small fortune on legal fees, he can use the dough.

He's juiced about his shot at a comeback.

Good results last night. O's gained on the Rays and the Yanks and the Nats took game #2 from the Braves to lead the NL East by 7 games. -- Al

Evidently some people don't learn by example. The A's leading pitcher in wins, Bartolo Colon, has been suspended for 50 games for a positive testosterone test. That means he's done for the year, right as the A's are battling for a wild card spot. Nice job Bartolo. This sure sounds familier to me. Just how dumb can you get? But I guess it helps explain Colon's pitching rebirth. -- Al

Get over yourself George. Jeter has never tested positive for anything in his entire career, unlike just about every other all star caliber player in the major leagues over the course of his career (with the exception of Ichero, another clean player among the steroid cheats). I don't care if you hate the Yankees, if you like baseball, you've got to respect Jeter. A career .313 batting average, 251 home runs (never more than 24 in a season, because he is not on steroids), and, like only Willy Mays, 300 stolen bases and more than 1200 RBI's to go with his 3256 hits and 251 homers. Not to mention that he is a career .314 hitter in the playoffs against the best pitchers each year. Jeter has a lot more than intangibles going for him on his trip to Cooperstown.

Take you pinstriped glasses off.

For once.

99% of these guys cheat.

They are professionals with millions of dollars at stake, it's all about making the most money for as long as you can.

I don't know too many 38 year olds who lead the league in total hits; the older you get, the slower you bat gets, it's a reality.

Over the last week two players have been busted for using PED's.

One is going into a contract year, the other is fighting to stay in the game.

So there you go.
