My White Sox are getting hammered 17-4, it is painful watching. At least Detroit lost. Not sure if either team wants to win the division.

All season I have been watching the disasterous season that Jeremy Guthrie has suffered through. He was my favorite O's pitcher. During the off-season, he was traded to Colorado (aka., the pitcher's graveyard). I feared he wouldn't fare well there, although I hoped otherwise. His time there was a disaster. He was 3-9 with a 6+ ERA before being traded to Kansas City. His misfortunes continued through his first 3 starts with them, going 0-3, to bring his recored to 3-12. At that point, Guthrie had pitched 107 innings, giving up 24 Hr's. Just terrible, by any standards. Suddenly, 6 starts ago, someone threw the light switch, and he has totally turned his season around. In his last 6 starts he has gone 4-0 with 2 NDs, (a fifth win was blown by the bull pen). Pitching 39.2 innings, he has given up just 3 Hr's, and 9 earned runs, and 0 earned runs in 3 of those starts. He has lowered his KC ERA from 7.71 after his 0-3 start, to 3.70 in his 4-0 stretch. During this stretch he has pitched 7 or more innings 5 of 6 times. His season numbers still are bad, 7-12, 5.34 ERA, but there is hope for him with this turn around. He has cut a full run off his season ERA since the streak began and his innings are way up. He pitched 90.2 innings in 19 games with Colorado but has 56 innings in 9 starts with KC, an average of 6.1 per outing. This turn around is so total, so day/night, that I just don't understand it. He has become an effective pitcher again.:smile2: I guess the lesson here is, if you are a pitcher, stay the heck out of Colorado.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Looks like the Halos are finally starting to make a move, having won three straight series, with a chance to sweep the As; having watched the last couple of games, I can't figure out how the As got to where they are. They have now moved past Detroit (tied in the loss column). Next team to pass: Tampa Bay. Then we'll be ready to take on the current wild card leaders. They have to get Mark Trumbo untracked. He's been terrible lately.

Angels are hanging in, and are not in a bad position. The Greinke pick-up was a good deal and helps bolster Weaver and Wilson. The batting line-up is as good as anyone's and Trumbo will snapback. Trout is spectacular. I like their chances if they can stay close. -- Al

Sweep! Sweep! Sweep! ^&cool

It's great to be beating the Yankees at the moment but so glad to see a Oriole sell out and a sea of black and orange in the stands, keep it going O's!!!...Sammy

Still in the 6th, but it looks good for another tie at the top. O's been tagging the ball real well. -- Al

Halos beat Tigers in ninth 3-2 on Callaspo's single. That's 13 out of 16 and are now two games out of a WC. Yanks need to keep beating Os and Rangers TB and they could be sitting pretty next week.

Angels and Wilson have a tough game tonight against Verlander. Should be a good one. I see pennant fever is in full swing in LA as the Angels put 40k+ in the stands last night. Not bad. -- Al

It was an exciting end although I had to keep the tv down as everyone was asleep! I now also get throught my wife's iPad the Angels pre-game show. Well, it should be an exciting last 24 games.

One part of me (the anti-Yankee fan) says Go Birds while the other (the incipient Angel fan) says Go Yanks. Color me scizophrenic {eek3}

Hi Brad. I see the Angels kicked Verlander around and won the game. Good job. Angels now 9-1 in their last 10 and only 2 back in the wild card. ^&cool -- Al

Good day for the O's and Nats. O's beat the Yanks and are once again tied for 1st. Nats won after a long rain delay and kept 6.5 games ahead of the impossible to shake Braves. Going to be a good TV day this afternoon but one that is going to wear out the remote, I fear. The Nats and O's both play at 1:30, while the Skins play at 1:00. I will be busy watching all three at the same time. I really need one of them new fangled media centers with the 'wall o' TV screens' in order to keep up with sports during the fall season. -- Al

Al,

Trout started the game with a home run and caught the last out , robbing Fielder of a home run with a spectacular catch.

They have now tied the Rays so the only teams in front of them are the WC teams with a big four game series against the As starting tomorrow.

I didn't see the game but the Yanks are complaining that they were robbed on the last play of the game. Texeira said the umps were more interesred in going home than getting the play right. I assume he will get fined for that.

The play in question was crucial and cost the Yanks the chance to tie the game in their last at bat. Yanks had pulled to within one, runners on 1st and third, 1 out, top of 9th, Tex at bat. He hit a ground ball which turned into a game ending double play when he dove for 1st base in order to beat the throw from 2nd. I am an O's fan, but he was safe. The run should have scored from 3rd, giving the Yanks the tie. It was a close play, but he appeared to beat the throw. So it goes. -- Al

The big 4 game series in Baltimore ends with the status quo, ie., the O's trail NY by 1 game, as the teams split the series 2-2. Next up are the tough Rays for 3 games. The Rays only trail the O's by 1 game so it is fair to say this series will be just as important to the O's as the NY series just was. O's need 2 of 3. Oakland follows that. No easy games in sight.:( Well, you have to earn your way into the playoffs. Go O's! -- Al

Things couldn't be any tighter for the WC, Angels and Rays one out. I can't decide whom to root for or against in Os - Rays. Angels have a big four game series against the As starting tomorrow.

Halos looked like garbage last night, lifeless, almost like they did a few weeks ago. Trumbo is killing them.

I had a feeling it might be a lost cause when Coco Crisp tripled on the first pitch of the game.

Two out in the loss colummn now. Not good with some 20 odd games left.

Well, today's another day :smile2:

Thank you Boston!!!!:)

You're welcome.

A friend of mine from New York told me in one of the NY papers there was an article that said something like "The only thing that can save the 2012 Yankees from being the 2011 Red Sox is the 2012 Red Sox."

Sorry, they're not saving you tonight.

My hope is the Sox win the next two, lose the next 15 (12 of which are with Tampa and Baltimore), then win the last three vs the Yankees.

Memo to the Red Sox; MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

As it stands now, the A's have a better record than the Yankees.............

O's covered their business last night by taking out the Rays. Tie at #1 spot again.^&grin I would also like to thank the Brew Crew for cooling off the Braves. They have taken 2 straight from the Braves and allowed the Nats to extend their division lead to 7.5 games with 20 left, a magic number of 13. It also has taken some of the critical importance out of the up-coming Nats-Braves series. Now, just leave the Nats alone when you visit for 4 games.:wink2::tongue: Anyone notice that both the Brewers and the Phillies have gotten really hot? They have both reached .500 after tough seasons. This is sort of bad timing for the Nats as they still have 4 games against the Brewers and 6 against the Phillies. Nats haven't done well against the Phillies this year, even when the Phillies weren't hot. No easy games.:redface2: -- Al
