Baseball 2012 (1 Viewer)

You're welcome.

A friend of mine from New York told me in one of the NY papers there was an article that said something like "The only thing that can save the 2012 Yankees from being the 2011 Red Sox is the 2012 Red Sox."

Sorry, they're not saving you tonight.

My hope is the Sox win the next two, lose the next 15 (12 of which are with Tampa and Baltimore), then win the last three vs the Yankees.

Memo to the Red Sox; MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

As it stands now, the A's have a better record than the Yankees.............

Com on George I need Boston to work some more Red Sox magic tonite, nothing would be better then seeing Boston sweep N.Y. this week, except seeing the O's sweep the Rays:) 1st inning here we go...Sammy

Tonight we go up against the tomato can known as David Phelps, who got shelled the last time out vs the Orioles, 5 runs allowed in 4 innings before being yanked.

So that means he'll throw a complete game 3 hitter tonight.

Hi George,

You totally slay me with the commentary! You really should be working for NSSN or ESPN They are no where near as good at calling the games as you!

Should be a fun end of the season for the American League East fans.

Dave

Halos look to be done. Three lifeless performances against the As, who are playing crisp baseball and who seemingly have the first WC locked up. They have bigger game in mind: the division.

Don't look know but the Brew Crew and Phillies are only three out in the WC. Both followed similar paths: sold off free agents on what management thought was a done season. Trouble is, no one told the players ^&cool

Another good night in the B-W corridor as both the O's and Nats won. O's stay tied with the Yanks, with the Rays now 3 back. Nats are now 8.5 games up going into the 3 game series in Atlanta. Thanks to the Nats sweeping the Mets at the same time the Brew Crew swept the Braves, the Nats have breathing room, so that the Braves series is less crucial than it was 3 days ago. Nats magic number for the division title is 11. Schedule makers have given the O's a tough road as after tonight's game against the Rays, they hit the road for 9 straight games, starting with the A's tomorrow night, (12 of the O's final 20 games are on the road). This AL East shootout looks to be going down to the wire as the O's and Rays close the season out against each other. Nats final 19 games are all against winning teams with playoff aspirations, so there will be no coasting to the division title, or resting anyone. Nats have a decent chance at winning 100 games, which is quite something for a franchise with a history of losing 100 games. -- Al

Trust me, I'd given up on this season long ago! Actually, the Brew Crew has played well all year...they just couldn't close games. On one pivotal road trip (the one that sent Grienke west) we lost all 6 games...and had the lead in the 8th or later in 5 of them.

The 'pen is waking up...and here come the Brewers. It helps to have teams collapsing in front of you!

I was wrong about Cy Phelps, 6 innings, 5 hits......................but he only gave up one run.

The Yankee bullpen tried to give the game away, but failed; God is Chamberlain awful, he's got two pitches, balls and home runs, he looks like he swallowed Mo Rivera, what did he do while he was on the DL, put on 10 or 50 pounds?

O's just had another walk-off 1 run win, against the Rays, and now have 1st place to themselves, at least for a few hours. O's are now an incredible 27-7 in one run games and are also 13-2 in extra innings (all 13 such wins in a row).^&grin^&cool -- Al

Man these games are making me more grey by the second!!! great game again for the O's but now a tough road swing ahead, if they can hold there own against the A's and Seattle they will be ok, just hope we can get a couple of blowouts these close games are just to much!!...Sammy

p.s. let's go Boston!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angels managed to finally win one. Good luck with the As. You have to be on your game to beat them. They play smart and they have some very good young pitchers. In all three games the Angels lost, As got a lead first and gamely hung on. They are more than the sum of their parts.

Another day, another walk off one run win for the O's.

And they are all alone in first place in the AL East, while at the same time they are 20th in baseball with a -21 run differencial.

Unreal.

They either win 3-2 or lose 13-3, no middle ground.

Don't think I've ever seen anything like it; at this point, I wouldn't bet against them come playoff time.

It's funny to think the Colts left Baltimore and took the horseshoe with them; looks like the O's are using it now, insert punch line here................{eek3}

^&grin^&grin^&grin The O's can use, and will take, whatever luck remains in the Baltimore horseshoe. The O's ability to stay close and win has just been remarkable. Hope it holds all the way to the WS.{sm3} --Al

Drat! Tied for 1st again. Where did Hughes find that fast ball? -- Al

Consider the fact that the Red Sox are fielding at this point a AAA line up, so this will help you connect the dots as to how that tomato can pitched lights out for 8 innings....................

All season I have been watching the disasterous season that Jeremy Guthrie has suffered through. He was my favorite O's pitcher. During the off-season, he was traded to Colorado (aka., the pitcher's graveyard). I feared he wouldn't fare well there, although I hoped otherwise. His time there was a disaster. He was 3-9 with a 6+ ERA before being traded to Kansas City. His misfortunes continued through his first 3 starts with them, going 0-3, to bring his recored to 3-12. At that point, Guthrie had pitched 107 innings, giving up 24 Hr's. Just terrible, by any standards. Suddenly, 6 starts ago, someone threw the light switch, and he has totally turned his season around. In his last 6 starts he has gone 4-0 with 2 NDs, (a fifth win was blown by the bull pen). Pitching 39.2 innings, he has given up just 3 Hr's, and 9 earned runs, and 0 earned runs in 3 of those starts. He has lowered his KC ERA from 7.71 after his 0-3 start, to 3.70 in his 4-0 stretch. During this stretch he has pitched 7 or more innings 5 of 6 times. His season numbers still are bad, 7-12, 5.34 ERA, but there is hope for him with this turn around. He has cut a full run off his season ERA since the streak began and his innings are way up. He pitched 90.2 innings in 19 games with Colorado but has 56 innings in 9 starts with KC, an average of 6.1 per outing. This turn around is so total, so day/night, that I just don't understand it. He has become an effective pitcher again.:smile2: I guess the lesson here is, if you are a pitcher, stay the heck out of Colorado.:rolleyes2: -- Al
Since I wrote all this, Guthrie continues his resurrection. Two more starts, 8 innings each, 2 earned runs allowed, and 2 ND's because KC doesn't score for him, but have won each of his last 8 starts. Season ERA now 'down' to 4.92, (3.13 with KC). After only going 7+ innings in 4 of his first 22 starts this season, he has now gone 7+ innings in 7 of his last 8 starts. I'm glad to see it. He was the O's workhorse for quite a while. -- Al

Nat's bullpen has managed to lose two 1-run games to the Braves. Too bad, as they could have put this race to bed. Maybe they can pull out game 3 tomorrow and salvage something from this series. -- Al

17 games left and all the AL division title races are up for grabs. All the NL division races are all but done. Wild cards races in both leagues still exciting. As it looks today, Atlanta has the #1 WC locked up in the NL and everyone else is fighting for the #2 WC. Several teams still in it but the Cards and Dodgers look to be the contenders, today.:wink2: The AL is just too much of a dogfight to call, either division winner or WC. Oakland is looking good for the WC if they can't catch Texas. Otherwise, there are going to be some near misses and I just hope Baltimore can either edge the Yanks for the division or take the WC, as the Angels and Rays are still right on their tail. -- Al

Angels blew a golden chance to move within two last night as Frieri blew the game in the 9th. Here's hoping they can gain a game today on both Yanks and Os. This team has just too much talent to be struggling like this. Wonder if it's time for Sciosia to go. I was listening to Angels talk last night on KLAA last night and they were some pretty ticked off fans.

I was following this game via computer as I am a Guthrie and Greinke fan. It was a great pitching duel (I love pitching duels) and both pitchers were doing great jobs. It was a classic example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" for the Angels. Greinke could have finished the game and the Angels would have won, but in comes the manager, in comes the closer, and there goes the game. The closer, Frieri, needing 2 outs to finish a 2-0 win, threw a grand total of 4 pitches and the Royals walked off 3-2 winners. 4 pitches and 2 of them were Hr's.:rolleyes2: No wonder the fans are hot. I hate to see this happen. A starter toils for 8 or so innings and then the specialist works for 5 minutes and it's all out the window. But that's baseball and it happens all the time. --Al

Al,

I know you're a big Guthrie fan but as Chili Davis once said about Doc Gooden, "he ain't God man." This lousy hitting has been going on for awhile, very frustrating. They were particularly inept in the As series earlier this week (losing three out of four), which is why they are where they are with 18 or so games to go. Their chance (as well as the Rays') is hoping the Os fade in the West.
